Chapter 31 - A Bountiful Harvest — Gifts of Gratitude from the Combee

The four remaining Beedrill hesitated, clearly no longer carrying the same aggressive arrogance they had earlier.

Chen Mo watched as the four Beedrill gathered together, buzzing loudly as if discussing something among themselves.

Before long—

One Beedrill flew forward and said something to the Combee group. However, the Combee ignored it, instead turning their gazes toward Chen Mo and Pichu.

Chen Mo, who didn't understand their language at all, was momentarily at a loss. Seeing this, Pichu immediately jumped down from his shoulder, decisively taking on the role of translator. Pointing at the Beedrill lying on the ground, it chattered "pichu pichu" while vividly acting things out with gestures.

"Thanks, Pichu. I think I get it now," Chen Mo said. "The Beedrill want to take their companion with them, right?"

"Pichu!"

Pichu nodded happily.

Clearly, Chen Mo had guessed correctly.

[They don't want to abandon their companion?]

[When Mo-bao was explaining Beedrill before, I really disliked these violent poison bees. But now… my impression suddenly feels different.]

[Honestly, when it comes to unity as a species, Beedrill might even do better than humans.]

[Mo-bao, you should agree. Your goal was just to drive them away anyway—there's no need to wipe them out.]

Chen Mo didn't have any objections.

Leaving a wounded Beedrill behind wouldn't accomplish anything. Worse, it might provoke the Beedrill to call in reinforcements for retaliation. Letting them take it away was perfectly fine.

What Chen Mo hadn't expected, though—

Was that Beedrill, often portrayed as one of the most common villainous Pokémon in the original setting, would place such importance on their companions.

In a sense, today had taught him a lesson as well.

Watching the Beedrill depart while supporting their injured companion, Chen Mo felt a swirl of emotions.

But the very next second—

He was surrounded by a swarm of Combee, fluttering their little wings and buzzing excitedly at him.

There was no need to guess. They were clearly expressing their gratitude.

"Pichu!"

Standing nearby, Pichu—whose size wasn't much different from the Combee—lost its footing and was promptly knocked over into the flower field by the enthusiastic swarm.

One Combee in particular—the one Pichu had just saved—kept rubbing up against Pichu nonstop.

"Pichu—!"

Pretending not to notice Pichu's "cry for help," Chen Mo looked at his phone screen. The entire livestream, watching Pichu being "besieged" by the Combee, had already burst into laughter.

[Hahahaha, Pichu, is this the burden of being too popular?]

[Mo-bao is so evil—he's totally pretending not to see Pichu asking for help.]

[Am I the only one who noticed that based on Mo-bao's explanation of Combee biology, the one Pichu saved should be a rare female Combee?]

[So what if it's female? Not only are Pichu and Combee different species, Pichu can't even tell male from female yet. What if Pichu is female too?]

[Hehehe, wouldn't that be even better?]

[Hey! Cut it out with those evil thoughts about Pichu!]

Of course it's you guys…

Chen Mo shook his head helplessly at the chat.

He hadn't even explained the concept of Egg Groups yet, and these people were already running wild with their imaginations.

"Pichu pichu."

Suddenly, Chen Mo felt someone tug on his pant leg.

Lowering his head, he saw Pichu gesturing for him, then pointing its little paw toward the Combee lined up neatly in the distance, clearly waiting.

"Do they want us to follow them?" Chen Mo asked.

"Pichu!"

Meanwhile.

Deep in the forest.

Two Beedrill were supporting their injured companion from either side, while the remaining two led the way ahead.

Suddenly—

A violent gust of wind swept through.

The Beedrill hurriedly stopped mid-flight.

The next moment, they saw a massive, abnormally large Pidgey descend slowly from the sky, landing on a tree branch. Its sharp gaze locked onto them.

"Buzz—buzz—"

The Beedrill were confused. Why had this bird suddenly blocked their path?

But with their companion injured, the leading Beedrill had no desire to escalate matters. They only wanted to avoid trouble and hoped this Pidgey would be sensible enough to move aside.

Before any real exchange could begin, the Pidgey suddenly let out a crisp cry. Its enormous wings spread wide.

In the next instant—

A violent storm erupted, instantly engulfing the Beedrill.

Though it was the same move—Gust—the power of this Pidgey's Gust was on an entirely different level compared to the Combee's.

Four Beedrill were instantly knocked out of combat. Only the already-injured Beedrill was spared.

After finishing all this, the Pidgey let out another clear, resonant cry, beat its wings, and soared back into the sky.

Leaving behind a group of utterly bewildered Beedrill.

What… just happened?

They couldn't understand how a Pidgey could be this strong, nor why this Pidgey harbored such intense hostility toward them—especially when they were no longer just Weedle.

Most baffling of all—

This Pidgey clearly could have killed them, yet deliberately spared them. And when it used Gust, it even carefully avoided their wounded companion.

It was far too strange.

With the Beedrill's level of thinking, they simply couldn't comprehend what had happened today.

They had only gone to the flower field as usual to look for some honey. When they encountered fellow nectar gatherers like the Combee, they'd merely intended to teach these "disobedient peers" a lesson.

But first, a human suddenly appeared and, together with a Pichu, brutally beat one of their companions.

Then—

Just as they were trying to escort their injured comrade back to the hive, they were ambushed and beaten again by a Pidgey that came out of nowhere.

This… what kind of mess was this?

High above the forest, the Pidgey paid no attention to the Beedrill's confusion. With its exceptional vision, it continued scanning the ground, carefully searching for someone.

It didn't take long before it found its target again.

It didn't approach recklessly, only lowering its altitude slightly to observe what that human was doing.

Soon, it saw the human receiving items from the Combee—some familiar Berries, and some things it didn't recognize.

But that didn't matter.

What mattered was this—

It could see very clearly that the human was smiling. He smiled often, but this was the happiest smile the Pidgey had seen on him all day.

"Pi… pi—"

Understanding dawned.

This human seemed to really like those Berries.

A look of realization flashed through the Pidgey's eyes.

With another beat of its wings, its figure dove swiftly back down toward the forest.

...

Not only did he obtain the Honey he'd planned for, but with the help of the Vespiquen, Chen Mo also harvested a large number of Apricorns. His backpack was filled to the brim—far exceeding the secondary objective of this livestream.

Happiness had come far too suddenly.

Chen Mo's face was split by a broad grin.

Just then—

He suddenly felt something and looked up.

Sitting on his shoulder, holding a bottle filled with Honey in one paw while licking Honey off the other, Pichu noticed Chen Mo's reaction.

"Pichu?"

"It's nothing," Chen Mo said with a chuckle. "I just feel a bit uneasy, like something's been watching us this whole time. Haha… probably just my imagination."
