Chapter 45 - Zekrom and the One of Ideals (Part One)

After leading Chen Mo into this ancient ruin, the Unown vanished without a trace, leaving only Chen Mo and his two Pokémon behind.

Since they were already here, it would be a real waste not to explore the ruins a little.

The ancient ruin was vast, yet its spatial structure was remarkably simple.

Its main entrance was sealed by a thick stone gate. The interior was roughly rectangular in layout. Ancient stone pillars—scarred by the erosion of time—stood around the perimeter, rising upward until they connected with the stone steps beneath the massive mural of Zekrom.

Aside from Zekrom's colossal mural, the most distinctive feature of the ruins lay in the murals covering the surrounding walls. Though none were as enormous as Zekrom's, each still occupied roughly a third of an entire wall, lining both sides of the ruin in succession.

"Interesting."

From Chen Mo's initial observations, these murals appeared to depict a complete, continuous story.

However, due to severe erosion over time, many portions had been damaged beyond recognition, leaving only a rough outline of the narrative discernible.

Because the camera lingered on the murals, the previously noisy barrage of comments finally quieted down a little, gradually drawn in by the story depicted on the walls and the many Pokémon they had never seen before.

[Mo-bao, you're walking too fast—slow down! I didn't even finish looking at the last mural before you passed it!]

[Look, Zekrom appears in this mural too!]

[It feels like these murals are telling a legend about Zekrom. Mo-bao, can you explain it in detail? I really don't understand some parts.]

[Mo-bao, don't just enjoy it by yourself!]

"Alright, alright," Chen Mo said after glancing at the chat.

"Since you've all calmed down a bit, let's talk about the story told in these murals—and about the legendary Zekrom."

"As you can see, one of the key figures in these murals is the Zekrom we just mentioned. But before explaining this story, there's one thing you need to understand."

"Legendary Pokémon don't merely represent overwhelming strength. In their world, each Legendary Pokémon often has a unique role of its own. Some gave birth to the land and seas. Some can alter climates and ocean currents. Some naturally govern time and space. Others embody life and death."

"And as one of these Legendary Pokémon, Zekrom naturally has its own defining concept as well. What it represents… is an idea—'ideals'."

The moment he said this, the livestream erupted.

[Pokémon? The way Mo-bao describes them, these are straight-up gods!]

[This is way too exaggerated. I doubt Mo-bao—unless I see it with my own eyes, I won't believe it.]

[If that's true, then wouldn't any Legendary Pokémon be able to crush humanity effortlessly?]

[Hey, Mo-bao said it's a legend. Every country has myths about gods who created the world—are those all real too?]

[Exactly. Since it's a legend, just take it as a story. Maybe there really is a Pokémon called Zekrom in the Pokémon world, but ancient humans worshipped powerful Pokémon too much and deified it. Strip away the divinity, and Zekrom might just be a Pokémon that's slightly stronger than average.]

Anping City Criminal Investigation Headquarters

At this point, Officer Wang couldn't help but turn to Professor Zhou.

"Professor Zhou, what do you think?"

"I don't know," Professor Zhou replied, adjusting the black-framed glasses on his nose as he stared at Chen Mo on the screen.

"But if what Xiao Mo is saying is true, then our strategies for dealing with Pokémon will need to be adjusted accordingly."

Officer Wang didn't press further. Everyone in the office watched the livestream, each harboring their own thoughts.

The story depicted in the murals began on an ancient continent.

On this land, humans and Pokémon were openly hostile toward one another, locked in constant slaughter and warfare.

But compared to Chen Mo's modern world, the living conditions for humans on that ancient continent were far harsher.

With no powerful modern weapons—armed only with cold steel—ancient humans were painfully fragile when facing Pokémon with extraordinary abilities.

The murals showed countless scenes where a single powerful Pokémon destroyed an entire ancient tribe.

Yet when survival was at stake, the potential humans could unleash far exceeded modern imagination. Humans of that era were extraordinarily united—when one settlement was attacked, aid would come from all directions.

And because of this, the conflict between humans and Pokémon only intensified, growing until it was nearly impossible to reconcile.

"…How familiar," Chen Mo murmured with a sigh.

The livestream chat buzzed again.

[This is basically the ancient version of our current situation. Looks like humans in that world didn't have it easy either.]

[Honestly, if things kept developing like that, I don't see how humans in that world could ever defeat Pokémon.]

[Damn… this won't be a total extinction ending, will it?]

[Probably not. When we first saw Zekrom's giant mural, I noticed something that looked like a human city beneath the thunderclouds.]

After glancing at the chat, Chen Mo continued explaining the murals.

After establishing the broader background, the murals' focus suddenly shifted—to a small village deep in the mountains.

Unlike the outside world, the humans here feared Pokémon, but they never actively provoked them. Whenever they encountered Pokémon, they would retreat immediately, never engaging in battle.

Under this philosophy of survival, while conflicts with Pokémon still occurred, they were far fewer than elsewhere. As a result, their hatred toward Pokémon never grew as deep as that of humans beyond the mountains.

Before long, as the story progressed—

A human male infant was born in this village.

Countless viewers noticed that this single birth scene occupied a vast portion of the mural. Without needing much thought, it was obvious—this child was the central figure of the murals, the protagonist of the story.
