Though the Skeleton Lizards were ugly, they were far from unintelligent. Seeing the situation turn against them, they immediately tried to burrow into their holes, planning to escape into the underground world and wait for an opportunity.
"Trying to run?"
Eric wouldn't let these savage monsters escape. He controlled his Superalloy Spears, sending them flying rapidly into the caves. The spears crisscrossed the ground, their tips pointing upward, ensuring that anyone who dared to jump in would be met with certain death.
"Roar!"
With their retreat blocked, digging a new hole was out of the question. The largest Skeleton Lizard roared furiously, its gaze sweeping over Charles and the others. It issued attack orders to the remaining lizards, determined to fight to the last stand.
At that moment, the Red Tank had run a considerable distance. While its speed was decent, it wasn't ideal. Eric had a sudden idea. He swooped down behind the Red Tank. "Let me give you a boost."
"What?"
The Red Tank was puzzled. Then he felt a powerful electromagnetic field surge around him, forming a special conduit that lifted him involuntarily into the air.
"Eric, don't do anything reckless!" Charles shouted, realizing what Eric was about to do.
Beast Hank frowned. "He's not planning to use Red Tank as a cannonball, is he? That's too crazy."
Eric, however, grinned with excitement. "It'll be thrilling. Ready?"
Standing behind Red Tank, Eric generated a massive electromagnetic ring that formed a colossal tunnel. He treated Red Tank like a cannonball, adjusting its trajectory and elevation to aim at the charging horde of Skeleton Lizards.
This was a new combination skill Eric had just conceived, theoretically sound.
Cyttorak's magic granted Red Tank inexhaustible strength, making his body nearly indestructible. His charging power had shattered numerous buildings and even withstood Thor's Mjolnir and Wolverine's Adamantium claws.
When running at full speed, Red Tank could accumulate tremendous kinetic energy, making him unstoppable. The faster he ran, the greater his destructive force.
However, Red Tank's running speed was less than ideal, limiting his overall power.
That's why Eric intended to give him a boost.
Red Tank wore a super-alloy armor. Eric used electromagnetic fields to generate power, launching Red Tank into a circular channel of the electromagnetic field, turning him into a cannonball. The electromagnetic force dramatically amplified his speed.
"Hey, hey, hey! What are you doing?!"
Red Tank was utterly bewildered. He was a terrible student and didn't understand what Eric was doing, but he had a vague sense of foreboding.
"Don't worry about it. Just focus on building up kinetic energy."
Under Eric's control, the circular channel of the electromagnetic field rapidly accumulated energy.
Charles, who wasn't on good terms with Red Tank, couldn't help but worry. "Eric, doing this puts Cain in danger."
"Don't worry, he's immortal. He can't die. Fly bravely, Tank—you take responsibility if anything goes wrong. Go!"
Once fully charged, Eric gave a shove. Red Tank shot forward like a cannonball, electric sparks and the crimson glow of his demonic power surging around him. He blazed through the air in a trail of fire and lightning, reaching an astonishing four times the speed of sound, his destructive power terrifying.
With a *whoosh*, Red Tank pierced through the bodies of the three-headed Skeleton Lizards. The resulting gust of wind roared like a tiger, plowing a massive trench through the earth below.
The Red Tank's vision blurred, so he closed his eyes, accumulating immense kinetic energy. The helmet on his head turned crimson from the friction with the air, yet the Red Tank felt no discomfort.
*Brave Tank, fearless of hardship, fly!*
*Whoosh!*
The red streak of light roared through the air, smashing through every obstacle in its path, unstoppable.
In a flash, the Red Tank left a trail of blood and wreckage, finally piercing through the body of the largest Skeleton Lizard with a massive, blood-gushing wound.
At the moment blood splattered, the Red Tank soared skyward, smashing through a mountain behind him before its speed finally began to decrease. After flying a considerable distance, under Eric's control, it ascended upward, only slowly landing as its accumulated kinetic energy dissipated.
The Red Tank was indeed unharmed, though slightly dizzy and nauseous.
"See? He's fine," Eric said with a grin.
"Hmph~"
Handsome Guy glared at the devastated landscape, displeased. He snorted and scanned the battlefield, spotting a Skeleton Lizard that had somehow survived. He raised his axe and finished it off with a decisive blow.
"Eric..."
Seeing that Charles was about to launch into another lecture, Eric nodded. "Alright, I know what you're going to say. Red Tank's physiology guarantees he won't die, and this experiment itself carries no real danger. Mutants have all sorts of abilities—some are weak on their own, but combined, they can achieve unexpected results. I know exactly what I'm doing."
He and Charles shared a mutual respect, both dedicated to fighting for the future of mutants.
Yet Eric couldn't stand Charles's long-winded lectures and timid, indecisive nature when he couldn't have his way.
Their differing philosophies had always clashed.
Artoria stepped forward. "Enough for today. Let's seal the entrance to prevent more monsters from crawling out."
No sooner had she spoken than a flock of reckless Icarus Wings swooped down.
Their target was the Skeleton Lizard's corpse, but they wouldn't pass up an opportunity to feast on Eric and the others if they got the chance.
Though small, Icarus Wings were surprisingly strong. A single one could snatch an adult human into the air, only for its flockmates to tear the victim apart.
Even Eric, besides the thick-skinned Red Tank, had to stay alert. Otherwise, he might be impaled by a sudden Icarus Wing attack.
"Let me handle this. Cover your ears."
Siren Sean, the sea demon, volunteered and let out a long, piercing cry, driving away the Icarus Wings with a massive burst of ultrasonic waves.
But the Icarus Wings didn't fly far, lingering in the air, clearly obsessed with their prey.
Eric waved his hand, and the spears embedded in the ground and around the cave entrance rose into the air, as if he were preparing to unleash a metal storm to eliminate these bothersome predators.
"Eric, let it go," Charles said. "They're just after food. Interfering too much with the ecosystem isn't a good idea."
Eric replied coldly, "To them, we're just food."
"ROAR~~"
Just as the two were about to delve deeper into their discussion, a massive roar erupted from beneath the earth.
Charles felt a surge of violent and malevolent thought awakening, and his expression immediately changed.
"Not good! It's Camazotz!"
Camazotz was a colossal bat-like monster, and ancient legends about it had been passed down through the Iwi tribe for millennia.
It is said that in the depths of the earth resides a terrifying beast, the king of the eternal night and the eternal rival of the sun. One day, it will come with darkness and storms to devour the entire world. Even Kong, the island's guardian deity, will be powerless to stop it.
