Mia and Alexander had gone their separate after their moment in the hallway. As she drove back home with Cam at the passemget side, she tried her best to pay attention to what her friend was saying and ignore the complimentary card that was burning a hole in the pocket of her jacket. She had a long night they both had. But one of them was more excited and the other, well… confused.
"And then he made me cum for the third time!" Cam said excitedly. Mia gave her friend the look… the same look that she would always give her whenever she gave too much detail than necessary which she did a lot. Cam rolled her eyes and continued to talk about their professor as though he was just another man that she had met at the club. Although Cam was excited to tell her friend everything, she left out a whole lot of detail for someone whom Mia thought gave a lot of detail.
She could not tell Mia the most exciting parts of her night and it hurt her. She could not tell her that she had found her mate, and that he was a Beta. She could not tell Mia about her real past and about how she used to be an Omega as a child, until the day she fully turned and was then recognised as the Beta of their pack. The destined Beta that the moon goddess had aligned her destiny with her Alpha. She was her guardian. And Mia did not even know any of that.
When they got home, Cam was ready to talk. She and Mia had a pattern whenever they had something serious going on… they would not just jump into the conversation while in moment, they would give each other time to process things. All that time of Cam yapping in the car was just a way of distracting themselves from the conversation that was ahead. It was an unspoken rule. They never came together to discuss the pattern. The just understood each other and did so.
"So, what happened today?" Cam asked Mia as they walked toward their small sitting room. Mia plumped herself on the couch, looking at her friend and wondering where she would begin. "She is awake. She will continue having treatment but the hospital's new director is not okay with my payment methods," she began to speak. "What? How dare he think that he can just waltz in and do that?!" Cam yelled when Mia told her about what the doctor said. She calmed herself down and continued to listen to her best friend.
Mia told her everything, just like she always did. From seeing her sister, to her memory loss, to the debt, to Alexander and even his offer. "So, are you going to take it? His offer I mean," Cam asked Mia. Cam had never met Alexander, she did not know who he was and neither did she know that he was her mate, Angelo's older brother. To her, he was just another human male who had a thing for her friend. Mia shrugged her shoulders in defeat. She did not have an answer for Cam.
"I do not know, Cam. Big Pa has made it clear that his sole goal is to have me dancing in his club forever," Mia said sadly. "That dumb fuck. He is a walking STI and I can not wait until the day one of these dangerous men who come to the club blow his brains out" Cam said spitefully. Cam hated Big Pa more than anyone else, even Mia. And she always made sure to make her hatred toward him very clear.
And that was the reason why he was so against their friendship when it began to bloom. Mia was audacious and Cam was ferocious. The two hated him and he could not just stand the idea of them being friends as well. It was detrimental to him. It was like a recipe for his destruction. As the two continued to talk things out and tried to figure out their next line of action to take, Cam had unknowingly predicted the future of Big Pa.
The next morning, the girls did not have school and it was a perfect time for a free day, they both needed to be well rested after the night they had the previous day. "I think I will call him," Mia said in the middle of breakfast. Cam looked up at her and immediately understood who she was talking about. "I think you should. Hear the job details, maybe it would not turn out to be as bad as we imagined. You deserve good things too, Mia. And this could just be a getaway from this terrible life," Cam said with a small smile.
"And I am getting away with you by my side. I am not going to leave you in the hands of those people," Mia said, assuring her as they both looked at each other. They went on with breakfast and had planned their day as well… they would both go to the hospital to see Diane, then Mia would leave at lunch and see Alexander in a nearby coffee shop or something. Before they headed out the door, Mia pulled out the card that Alexander had given her and dialed the number on the card.
She had expected a secretary or assistant to pick up, but to her surprise, it was Alexander's voice she heard. He seemed to have known that it was her as he picked up the phone, "Malyshka," he said. "I accept you offer. I am ready to hear what the job entails before I go all in," she said. Alexander smiled at her words. She then informed him about where she would like to meet, she wanted somewhere close to the hospital. And since Alexander already knew about her sister, there was no use lying.
Alexander gave her the name of a luxurious restaurant that sat in the next estate after the hospital and they set a time. Alexander was a very busy man who also disliked social interactions and yet there he was, setting up a meeting at Mia's convenience rather than his. He had spent the whole day with his phone glued to his hands, waiting for her call. He already had her contact saved on his phone as he waited rather impatiently to see her caller ID on his screen.
