The Missing Piece
Suddenly, Julian's phone buzzed. He looked at the screen and his face fell.
"I'm so sorry," he said, scrambling to pack his bag. "I have an emergency at the site. I have to run."
He threw his coat on and rushed toward the door. "It was wonderful meeting you, Elara!"
"You too!" she called out.
The door chimed as he left. It was only then that Elara realized something terrible—they hadn't exchanged numbers. She didn't even know his last name. She looked at the empty chair across from her, feeling a sudden pang of loneliness. The magic of the afternoon seemed to vanish with him.
