Rubbing his aching eyes, Qin Xiao wondered whether he and his eyes were just incompatible. Why did they always end up getting hurt?
Before he even reached the gate of the estate, he looked up and saw Black Widow smiling at him.
Leaning casually against a black SUV by the entrance—right next to the section of wall Qin Xiao had smashed through earlier—she looked completely at ease.
Judging by that amused smile, she had clearly seen everything that had just happened.
"Well… um… what are you doing here? Where are the others? It's dangerous being here alone."
Afraid she would bring up his embarrassing moment, Qin Xiao quickly tried to change the subject.
"What danger is left? The people here were so scared by you they practically wanted to grow wings and fly away. What danger could there be?"
Black Widow brushed her hair back, speaking with a charming, teasing tone.
"Then you must've missed me—otherwise why come all this way to find me?"
Qin Xiao grinned and casually wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
"I'm here to take you home. You've caused a huge mess. Get in the car first."
Black Widow pinched his cheeks until his lips puckered, then lightly kissed him.
"That's your reward for just now. Compared to those heroes who walk away from explosions without looking back, I prefer this version—you getting hit by a rocket launcher. It's more real. And kind of cute."
With that, she got into the driver's seat.
"I knew you saw it! And hey, why'd you kiss me out of nowhere? I've gotta kiss you back or I'll be at a loss!"
Qin Xiao shouted as he hurried into the car.
The moment he got in, he yanked off the bandit mask he'd been wearing all day.
"I almost suffocated! Now I understand why more robbers are switching to stockings instead!"
"Stop complaining about your mask. You killed two—no, three—major drug lords and emptied their bank accounts. The Mexican government has already deployed regular troops. This city is basically surrounded."
"Seriously? I just killed a couple of drug dealers."
Qin Xiao shrugged, his confidence clearly swelling lately. He didn't think much of government forces.
Black Widow glanced at him while driving.
"Three drug lords. Do you know how much they pay government officials every year?"
"Do you know how many billions would be lost just to rebuild those three organizations after their leaders were wiped out?"
"And that's not even counting the money you transferred out of their accounts. On the black market, a small-yield nuclear warhead costs less than a hundred million."
Qin Xiao ignored most of that—but the mention of nuclear warheads caught his attention.
"No way—they'd deploy a nuke just for me? That's a bit much, isn't it?"
"Don't underestimate how deep those cartels are tied to the government. Your combat strength is crystal clear to them. Push them too far… and who knows?"
"Alright, alright. I'll be more careful next time. Anyway, I've made enough from this job."
Qin Xiao adjusted his seat and leaned back comfortably.
With Black Widow here to pick him up, there was nothing to worry about.
S.H.I.E.L.D. truly had reach everywhere.
Black Widow drove him through twists and turns. When they reached a checkpoint, she flashed some kind of official pass, and they drove straight through without issue.
Even with her help, they traveled from northeastern Mexico all the way west, crossing into the United States through the Arizona border.
From there, they headed to a small town in New Mexico.
After driving all night, they didn't rush back.
Instead, they stopped at a local restaurant.
To their surprise, Nick Fury and Coulson were already waiting.
In front of Coulson was just a cup of coffee.
Nick Fury had a breakfast set in front of him—but it looked untouched.
Both of them wore grim expressions, clearly intending to give Qin Xiao a warning.
Qin Xiao casually pulled out a chair and sat down across from them, then reached over and dragged Fury's untouched breakfast in front of himself.
"After sitting in a car all night, my butt's about to fall apart. Boss, you're really thoughtful—preparing breakfast for me!"
He grinned and immediately started eating.
If not for his skin tone, it would've been obvious that Nick Fury's face had grown even darker.
That breakfast was for you?
If I'd known you had no sense of boundaries whatsoever, I would've eaten it already!
Why didn't I eat it first? Why?!
Fury shot Coulson a look.
Coulson, the honest man, looked completely confused.
He's eating your breakfast—why are you looking at me?
"Uh… sir, is there something you need?"
As the subordinate, Coulson asked cautiously.
"Go buy me another breakfast. Thank you."
Fury said through gritted teeth.
"And get me another coffee—and one for Natasha too, thanks!"
Qin Xiao added quickly, raising his hand.
"You've got quite the appetite. Do you have any idea how much trouble you've caused?"
Fury gave up on intimidation and sighed helplessly.
"Well, it's for our department's funding."
Qin Xiao handed over a slip of paper covered in long strings of numbers.
"Bank account and password. There's a billion dollars in it—use it as operational funds."
"But let me make this clear—it's only for our team. Don't funnel it elsewhere. I took finance electives in college—I'll be keeping an eye on it."
Mouth full of eggs, Qin Xiao mumbled as he spoke.
There was no way Fury believed that this billion dollars was all Qin Xiao had taken.
But getting him to hand over more would be difficult.
And besides, that wasn't even why Fury had come.
However, Qin Xiao didn't give him a chance to lecture.
"I get it—do your job, follow orders. I understand."
"But last time, the five hundred million didn't meet expectations. Won't happen again—I promise."
"Besides, I wore a mask. No one recognized me."
With that barrage, Fury's prepared speech died in his throat.
After breakfast, the ever-busy Fury rushed off to a meeting.
The three of them saw him off at a desert outside town, where a Quinjet was waiting.
"Keep an eye on this guy."
Fury emphasized to Coulson and Black Widow.
Then he turned to Qin Xiao, about to say more.
Qin Xiao immediately raised two fingers and swore,
"Don't worry—I absolutely won't cause trouble again. I swear. If I act on my own again, there's a saying in China: 'struck by lightning from the heavens'—meaning God will send lightning to strike me dead!"
The moment he finished speaking—
Before Fury could respond—
Dark clouds suddenly gathered in the sky, thunder roaring loudly.
And it was concentrated right above them.
The clouds twisted like a tornado, forming a swirling vortex.
The sudden storm was so bizarre that everyone instinctively turned to look at Qin Xiao.
"Why are you all looking at me? I swear, I was being completely sincere! This has nothing to do with me!"
Qin Xiao waved his hands frantically.
Unfortunately, the heavens didn't seem to care.
The moment he finished—
A bolt of lightning, over a meter thick, crashed down straight toward him.
Everyone present was battle-hardened. Seeing this, they didn't hesitate—each sprinted a few steps and dove to the ground as far away as possible.
BOOM!
The lightning struck like a bomb, blasting a massive crater into the ground.
The group—and even the aircraft—were thrown into the pit.
Qin Xiao landed right at the center.
And beside him—
was a hammer crackling with lightning.
