"Spri spri, spri spri spri (ω)."

Although its body was in pain, seeing Icarus crying, Bellsprout still firmly expressed that it was fine.

"It's all my fault. Bellsprout, eat some Pokémon meat first. Then I'll spray the wound medicine. Let's rest here."

Wiping his tears, Icarus immediately took the unprocessed Bug-type corpse from his backpack, cut it up, and fed the meat to Bellsprout.

Because it hadn't been processed in time, most of the energy inside the Caterpie's body had already dissipated, and its silk sac was now nothing more than an ordinary lump of thread.

On the contrary, its flesh had become more nutritious after being nourished by residual energy.

"Spri~ Sprout!"

Bellsprout quickly swallowed the meat, but its body trembled again from the sting of the wound medicine.

"Hang in there, Bellsprout. It'll be fine soon. I'll be gentler!"

Seeing Bellsprout so seriously injured, Icarus suddenly realized that he truly had family in this world.

After finishing the treatment, Bellsprout rooted itself into the ground to recover, while Icarus stayed alert and watched the surroundings carefully.

After all, this was their weakest moment. Not to mention another Pidgey — even two more Caterpie would force him to run away with Bellsprout.

After all, his own combat ability was probably only slightly stronger than a Caterpie's, and Bellsprout, still in recovery, was not suitable for using energy in battle.

"I didn't expect that Pidgey I've been thinking about would meet me like that…"

As his eyes scanned the area, Icarus thought about that Pidgey's strength, and a trace of eagerness — mixed with resentment — flashed across his face.

"That Pidgey is about the same level as Bellsprout, but Bellsprout can only fight from the ground. That's the advantage of aerial combat."

He thought to himself that if he could discover Pidgey first, there would still be a chance through a sneak attack.

As long as it inhaled a little Sleep Powder, when its speed dropped and it became drowsy, Bellsprout would have the chance to drag it down.

Once it lost the advantage of flight, Pidgey's ground combat ability wouldn't even compare to a Rattata. Then he would have a chance to subdue it.

And Pidgey's aptitude was average at worst, usually above average — even though it didn't meet Icarus's minimum expectations.

But if he had the chance to capture one, he wouldn't refuse even a mid-level aptitude Pidgey.

After all, having a Flying-type Pokémon was incredibly convenient — scouting the surroundings, controlling the skies, advancing, attacking, retreating, and defending.

Even a mid-tier beginner-level Pidgey could defeat high-level Weedle.

"It seems the matter of the second Pokémon must be settled as soon as possible. It must be able to fly."

Thinking of the powerlessness he had felt earlier, he clenched his fists and mentally eliminated several options, leaving only two or three candidates.

Feeling uneasy, Icarus sprayed Repel around the area again and rested until noon.

"Spri spri~ Sprout~ spri!"

Fully recovered, Bellsprout happily devoured the increased amount of Bug-type meat.

"Slow down, Bellsprout. Have you really recovered completely? Eat more and rest well this afternoon before we go hunting again."

Smiling, Icarus patted its head.

"Spri spri ( _ )."

Bellsprout indicated it was fine and even showed Icarus the nearly healed wound.

After all, it had only been seriously injured — it hadn't completely lost its combat ability. In addition, Icarus had applied wound medicine three times, and with Bellsprout taking root to recover, its condition had improved greatly.

"Alright. Let's finish lunch, rest a bit more, and continue hunting."

Looking at the faint scar, Icarus made up his mind to go to the Pokémon Center that afternoon and use a treatment voucher to remove the scar and conduct a full checkup.

Although using a healing voucher this way wasn't considered worthwhile in most people's eyes — after all, one voucher could fully treat up to six Pokémon at once, so many civilian trainers saved it for emergencies —

this was his Bellsprout.

He wanted it to grow up healthy, without hidden injuries.

So this voucher was worth it.

"Spri spri!"

Bellsprout nodded confidently, indicating it would dominate the battlefield in the afternoon.

Soon, being more cautious, they discovered four Caterpie.

"It seems I've never encountered fewer than four at a time. Do I really have that much deterrence?"

Thinking about today's events, Icarus scratched his head.

"No… There should be a small group of newly grown Pidgey and Spearow coming to forage."

The Pidgey from this morning flashed through his mind. That Pidgey looked proud and had no scars — it must be part of the new generation.

Realizing this, Icarus couldn't help feeling excited. His opportunity might have arrived.

He decided to investigate further today. If his guess was correct, he would take a risk at night.

Since stronger new-generation birds had moved to the outer forest, it meant food in the inner forest was scarce.

In that case, Zubat — which could also fly but was weaker — would likely appear on the outskirts.

Compared to the sharp-eyed and more powerful Pidgey and Spearow, Zubat relied on ultrasonic waves.

And human technology had ways to deal with that.

"Of course, if we can catch a Pidgey or Spearow during the day, that would be even better. Hahaha."

Icarus couldn't help laughing.

"Spri?"

Bellsprout tugged at Icarus, indicating they had been noticed by a Caterpie.

"Ah — sorry, sorry! But Bellsprout, we have more important things to do today. Let's explore a bit farther and see if we can find Pidgey or Spearow."

"Of course, if we encounter Bug-types, we'll take care of them."

"Spri (●—●)."

Although it didn't understand what Icarus was planning, Bellsprout nodded obediently.

In the afternoon, they began searching farther out.

During that time, they encountered two groups — five Caterpie and four Weedle.

Even though Icarus was preoccupied, he didn't hesitate.

With his assistance, Bellsprout easily defeated both groups. The bodies were cut up and stored in the backpack.

"Jie~"

While investigating further, Icarus suddenly heard a bird cry.

"That's the cry of Spearow! Bellsprout, be careful — let's take a look."

Moving forward cautiously, Icarus raised his binoculars while Bellsprout guarded the surroundings.

Soon, he saw a red-and-brown Spearow pecking at a Caterpie corpse on a branch about thirteen or fourteen meters high.

"No scars… and the wing markings are lighter. It should be a new-generation Spearow."

He suppressed his excitement. His guess was almost certainly correct.

Of course, he didn't dare let Bellsprout attack it. At that height, it was impossible to reach — let alone attempt a sneak attack.

Moreover, Spearow was stronger than Pidgey and extremely vengeful. It would call its companions.

Without absolute certainty of a one-hit finish, Icarus would never provoke it.

"Alright, Bellsprout. Let's check another area."

Soon after, he spotted two Pidgey perched high in a tall tree.

"It seems my guess was right… but why are they so cautious? These bird Pokémon…"

With a wry smile, he lowered the binoculars.

"Forget it. It's almost time. Let's head back, Bellsprout."

"Spri spri (●—●)."

Though it didn't understand why Icarus was so focused on those birds, Bellsprout remained vigilant and nodded when told to return.
