For the past few days, Hua Yi had been searching for a way to obtain Friendship Points. Unfortunately, his efforts had been in vain. Recalling how in the game, using a friend's Valkyrie in battle granted Friendship Points, he felt he should perhaps become best friends with the Schicksal Overseer, Otto Apocalypse.
Of course, that was just a joke. There was only one Hyperion, and in reality, it was impossible for identical Valkyries to exist like they did in the game. Hua Yi suspected that the method to earn points lay with Kiana Kaslana and the others; he just lacked a legitimate reason to make contact with them for now.
Unlike Tachikawa Academy, where the student dorms were off-campus, Senba Academy where Kiana and her friends studied had its dorms within the school grounds. As a student from a different school, Hua Yi had no way to visit them openly, especially since Senba seemed to be an all-girls school.
Having made no progress, Hua Yi spent more time exploring the virtual interface. He tried keywords like "Lingyi-niang," "Ai-chan," and "Dawei" to confirm whether his cheat had a top-up function.
Finding none, he settled into a routine of attending classes and physical training, hoping to improve his combat ability. Without a professional instructor or real-world combat experience, the results were marginal, but at least he wasn't idling his time away.
Today was Saturday, the day Hua Yi was to report for his internship at ME Corp.
Even though he had gained some power, he still intended to follow through with the internship. It wasn't that he was greedy for the relatively generous intern salary, but rather a consideration of ME Corp's actual strength.
In the game, ME Corp was a member of Anti-Entropy. The powerful Titans produced by Anti-Entropy were, in many players' eyes, even more formidable than Valkyries. Unless a Valkyrie had an overwhelming advantage in level and equipment, a Titan could shrug off her attacks as mere pinpricks, while a single punch from a Titan would either kill a Valkyrie instantly or leave her knocking on death's door.
Furthermore, ME Corp was an organization capable of manufacturing 4-star weapons. For Hua Yi, who currently only possessed a single two-star Stigma, Selena (T), this was the greatest potential boost he could access.
Naturally, he didn't expect ME Corp to hand such high-level weaponry to a mere intern; his plan was to search the abandoned ME Corp building once the Honkai erupted.
Additionally, the former CEO of ME Corp, Raiden Ryoma, had been imprisoned a year ago due to an economic scandal. He was the father of Raiden Mei. Having the status of an ME Corp intern would likely make it much easier for Hua Yi to approach Raiden Mei in the future—presumably.
It was an imposing skyscraper that blocked out the sun. If all of Nagazora were filled with buildings like ME Corp, the citizens would lose the chance to appreciate the sky entirely. Fortunately, none of the surrounding buildings were quite as grand.
After Hua Yi received his invitation, a few helpful students in his class had cryptically warned him that the massive scandal from a year ago had severely tarnished the company's reputation, suggesting he shouldn't be too obsessed with becoming a permanent employee. However, from the outside at least, ME Corp still looked as prestigious as ever.
Stepping through the doors, Hua Yi found the receptionist, presented his internship invitation, and explained his purpose. Under her guidance, he navigated through the building for a short while before arriving at the third floor.
"This will be your internship location. Your current task is to organize some of the company's files. Once you are familiar with the workflow, other tasks will be assigned."
Looking at the young man before her, the receptionist pursed her lips and added a friendly reminder.
"The different areas of the company are independent. Staff from one department are not permitted to enter other areas without authorization. Please keep this in mind. Violating these rules could cost you your chance at a permanent position later."
"Thank you, I understand."
Seeing Hua Yi nod, the receptionist gave a slight smile before turning to leave the office.
It was a private office with only Hua Yi inside. As for his tasks and requirements, they were already displayed on an electronic screen next to the computer.
The work wasn't heavy or particularly technical. After all, Hua Yi was currently only a first-year student at Tachikawa Academy. ME Corp naturally didn't expect much from a high school student and simply assigned him work according to standard procedures.
This situation was meant to last for three years, after which Hua Yi could either join ME Corp as a formal employee upon graduation or postpone his entry to pursue university studies.
Hua Yi, of course, had no intention of interning here for three years. After all, the Third Honkai Impact would certainly occur before then. For now, he decided to see if the files ME Corp wanted him to organize contained anything of value.
He began browsing the materials. None of it was classified or sensitive information. Aside from basic data, there were business collaborations with other companies that didn't require secrecy.
The Nagazora branch of ME Corp wasn't the headquarters; it was just an ordinary division. The current CEO had never even visited. The 4-star weapons he dreamed of were unlikely to be stored in this small branch.
Among the vast sea of information, the only thing that felt like a win was the discovery of a weapon research lab on the upper floors of the building.
Even if there weren't any 4-star weapons, there should at least be a 3-star weapon, right?
Every time he thought about his only Stigma, Selena (T), he recalled his glorious days in the game where "3-star Stigmata were only for collection, and most 4-star Stigmata were useless fodder kept in the warehouse just for looks." It filled him with a wordless sorrow.
Silently committing the layout of the ME Corp building to memory, Hua Yi checked the time, packed up, and prepared to leave.
As an intern, he didn't have to work overtime like the permanent staff, and his workload was relatively light. Walking through the designated path out of ME Corp, he could see many busy employees bustling about.
Currently, ME Corp was a place of vibrant activity. When the Honkai arrived, this place would likely be abandoned in an instant.
Hua Yi let out a soft sigh as he walked out of the ME Corp building, leaving it behind.
He had business to attend to. To accurately estimate when the Honkai would arrive and to prepare early, he intended to investigate the status of Raiden Mei, who should already be enrolled at Senba Academy.
Since Senba Academy was an all-girls school, Hua Yi would have to utilize his superior physical attributes to scale a wall and sneak inside.
This matter was of grave importance; it was by no means a lecherous act. There was no need for doubt Hua Yi was fighting for all that is beautiful in the world.
