Chapter 19 - Leveling Up

The next day, Akira continued his activity of collecting zombies into his space.

This time, he decided to complete his mission to level up more quickly.

"Okay, this is quite a distance. Judging by its location, it's about an hour's walk from Saya house.

And judging by the location, this seems to be a fairly well-developed residential area.

Because there are several factories and schools nearby.

With an estimate of at least several thousand zombies roaming around here, I'll be able to level up quickly.

Of course, before doing any of that, I need to check the situation and see if there are any survivors hiding in the area," Akira said after arriving there.

He found that the electricity was still on at night, indicating that the electricity source, which comes from a reservoir in the city, was still operating as usual.

However, if this continued, Akira doubted how long the electricity supply would last.

Especially as time passed, as humans began to adapt to the situation.

Those with greater ambition would surely realize the resources that needed to be secured.

And the dam area where the electricity came from was a good place to defend themselves. With electricity, they could do more to survive.

Relying on the infrared camera he had brought, Akira began to explore the housing complex.

And finding that there were still some survivors, Akira realized that the situation didn't seem as good as yesterday.

Choosing to move on to the next housing complex, Akira encountered the same thing again.

He found that there were still some survivors, not expecting the situation to be like this.

Akira then began searching the next housing complex again, and again found several survivors.

"Damn... It seems I'm unlucky. Even though the number of zombies is much greater than in the previous place I visited,

The percentage of humans who survived has also increased.

Does this illustrate a situation where, the more zombies gather in a place, the greater the chance that some humans will survive?

Now I have to change my strategy; I can't use my previous method anymore.

Fortunately, I always have a backup plan. I have the magic power to create a dark fog.

So now's the time to use it!!" Akira decided to use his magic this time.

His plan was to use smoke magic to obscure the vision of the surviving humans, after which he would begin harvesting the zombies with impunity.

"Okay, let's do this!!" Akira then released his smoke magic.

It quickly shot out from both hands. Akira didn't have a staff or wand to cast his magic; he simply used his hands to cast it instantly.

Before long, thick black smoke began to emerge from Akira's hand and quickly spread around him.

Finally, it spread and expanded, continuing to emit its magical black smoke for several minutes.

Akira began to drift into the smoke, seemingly immune to it, as it didn't limit his five senses.

"Hey... it's like walking in an open space, except everything around me seems a little darker, but the rest of my vision is within normal range.

This is a really good power," Akira began to gather the zombies within the black smoke's range.

[ Ding... 3... 4... 2... 6... 8...

2... 3... 5... 8... 6... 5... 5....] The system notification numbers continued to flash.

Meanwhile, the humans who had managed to survive the zombie siege.

Sensing something strange, they noticed that the night outside their shelter seemed to be getting darker.

And it became increasingly dark, limiting their vision. Finally, they saw a dark smoke suddenly spreading from an area near them.

It slowly spread towards the surrounding area. Seeing this, they panicked.

"What's going on? Why is there so much black smoke? It's like a terrifying fog!?" A bald, middle-aged man peered out the window of his two-story house.

Not far from the bald man, a two-story shop stood, with bright eyes peering out the window.

"Mom, why is there black fog?" asked a seven-year-old girl. asked her mother.

The mother, who was beside her, had a serious and worried expression.

"Hana…don't be too loud. You don't want the monster to hear us and come to our shop," her mother advised her daughter.

"No, Mom, Hana only speaks softly," the child replied, her face slightly pale, as if remembering a frightening memory she had experienced.

"Okay, I believe you. Hana is a good girl, so it's time for Hana to sleep, right?" Then, worried, the mother invited her daughter back to rest.

Outside in the dark fog, Akira looked relaxed, as if walking on the beach.

With a veil of thick, dark fog blocking her view from outside, he walked leisurely within.

And quickly harvested many zombies to collect into his space.

"Ugh…I'm feeling a little hungry…time for some warm food!!" Akira decided to eat some warm food while continuing to put zombies into his space.

"Ummm, a warm bowl of noodles with egg and sausage...it's the best meal at a time like this...slurp..."

Finally, after almost an hour of collecting all the zombies in his chosen area, Akira realized that he had apparently passed at least three housing blocks, one school, and two factories.

"I'm just a little bit closer to completing my level-up mission, and with this, I can get something good again.

Come on...come on...let's keep collecting zombies!!!" Akira enthusiastically collected zombies into his space.

Finally, his efforts paid off, as the number of zombies he had collected had surpassed 9990.

[9993...9994...9995...9996...9997.

9998...9999...10,000]

[Ding...congratulations on successfully leveling up...]

[Host gets…]

"Ohhhhh…I've leveled up…10,000 zombies…that's amazing!!!!" Akira was excited to have collected so many zombies.

With this, he planned to level up, and he was already looking forward to the rewards he would receive from his level up.

Thinking about the contribution tree he would receive, Akira began to imagine what changes he would bring to the world once the zombies quickly disappeared.

"Oh…it looks like this city will be so much better in just a few days!!!"
