Chapter 216 - Chapter 215 after glow

Day 9: The Post-Sync "Afterglow" Crisis

[Jay's POV]

The morning air was crisp, but the kitchen was a high-temperature zone. I was standing by the stove, nursing a cup of tea and feeling a soft, lingering warmth in my limbs that no amount of caffeine could replicate. The "Glow" wasn't just back; it was radiating off me in waves.

The house was finally quiet. Pappa Keizer had left for the office in a whirlwind of black SUVs, Keigan had vanished toward the university with his pink envelope tucked securely in his briefcase, and Keiran had been shoved out the door for school, complaining that he hadn't finished his pancakes.

It was just us—the "Inner Circle." Mamma Serina, Bridget, and Keifer.

Keifer was leaning against the counter, his eyes fixed on me with a heavy, hooded gaze that told me he wasn't thinking about business. He looked like a man who had slept for a hundred years and finally woken up in paradise.

"I have to take this call, Weify," he murmured, his hand sliding across my waist for one last "System Check" before he straightened his tie. "It's London. I'll be back in ten minutes. Don't move from this sector."

"I'm just making tea, Keif," I laughed softly. "I'm not going anywhere."

He kissed my forehead—a lingering, possessive press of his lips—and walked out toward the terrace, his phone already to his ear.

The Ambush: [Jay's POV]

The second the terrace door clicked shut, the atmosphere in the kitchen changed from "Romantic" to "Lethal Teasing."

I turned back to my tea, but I could feel two pairs of eyes burning into the back of my head. I didn't even have to look to know that Bridget and Mamma Serina were wearing identical smirks.

"So," Bridget started, her voice dropping into that dangerous, playful frequency. She leaned against the marble island, crossing her arms. "The '1,000% System Restore' seems to have been... extremely successful."

I kept my back to her. "The medical team said he'd be back to normal soon, Bridget. It's a relief."

"Oh, it's a relief, alright," Bridget cackled, stepping closer. "But I'm not talking about his memory, Jay. I'm talking about the soundtrack to my night shift. You do realize that as Head of Security, I have highly sensitive hearing, right?"

My heart skipped a beat. A blush began to creep up my neck, hot and fast. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Really?" Bridget leaned in, her eyes dancing with mischief. Suddenly, she threw her head back and let out a soft, high-pitched, breathless sound. "Oh, Keif... please... 1,000%...!"

I nearly dropped my tea. "BRIDGET! Stop it!"

The Teasing Protocol: [Jay's POV]

Mamma Serina burst into a fit of elegant giggles, hiding her face behind a linen napkin. "Bridget, be nice! They've been apart for a week!"

"I am being nice!" Bridget protested, though she was practically vibrating with laughter. She started mimicking my voice again, mocking the frantic tone of the night before. "Keifer... the Glow... it's too much...!"

"I am going to delete you from the security payroll," I hissed, my face now the color of a ripe cherry. I looked toward the terrace door, terrified Keifer would hear. "You were supposed to be watching the perimeter, not the master suite!"

"Jay, honey, I could have been at the front gate and I still would have heard the 'Data Sync' happening in that room," Bridget teased, stepping into my personal space and nudging my shoulder. "Seriously, though... scale of one to ten? How was the 'Grand Reopening' of the Watson Empire?"

"Bridget!" I squealed, covering my ears.

"Was it a $1,000% success?" she persisted, dodging my attempt to swat her away with a dish towel. "Did he 'recalibrate' your heart rate? Because you've been walking like you're on a cloud all morning, and your 'Glow' is currently visible from outer space."

[Mamma Serina's Input]

Mamma Serina finally composed herself, walking over to pat my burning cheek. "Don't listen to her, Jay. She's just jealous because her unknown texter is only 'watching shadows' while your Hubby is... well, being a Watson."

Bridget's smirk faltered for a microsecond at the mention of her own mystery man, but she quickly recovered. "Hey, my mystery man has poetry! Jay's man has... vocal cords that don't know the meaning of 'Volume Control'."

I hid my face in my hands, laughing despite my absolute mortification. "I hate you both. I'm taking my tea to the library."

"Run all you want, Empress!" Bridget shouted as I started to retreat. "But remember—I'm the one who monitors the 'Acoustic Feedback' in this house! Next time, maybe use a pillow for $100% noise cancellation!"

I practically ran out of the kitchen, the sound of their combined laughter echoing behind me. As I turned the corner, I bumped straight into Keifer, who had just finished his call.

"Whoa," he said, catching me by the elbows, his brow furrowing as he looked at my bright red face. "System Error? Your temperature is spiked, Weify. What happened?"

I looked at his handsome, smug face—the man responsible for my public embarrassment—and just shook my head. "Nothing, Hubby. Just... a bit too much 'Acoustic Feedback'."

Keifer blinked, confused, as Bridget's laughter erupted again from the kitchen. "I'll check the logs," he muttered, pulling me back into a hug.

"Please don't," I whispered into his chest. "Let's just keep the 'Logs' between us."
