David led me down a corridor that seemed far longer than it should be.
The floors gleamed unnaturally and the lights flickered just enough for me to second-guess every step.
Each door looked…ordinary, but somehow, it wasn't.
"Sir. Adrian, we are almost there."
David said softly, almost reassuring.
Maybe he thought the long corridor spooked me—and he was absolutely right.
I tried to steady my breathing, but my mind repeated the flickering lights and the weird shine of the floor.
"Sir, we have arrived."
The soft voice pulled me from my panic. I quickly regained my composure and waved at David as I opened the door.
It looked just like my room before.
It's all…here. My PC, the bed, even my gaming chair! The LED lights!
I gripped the knob of the door tight, my hands shook with familiarity.
It gave me mixed emotions. I didn't know whether to be scared or thankful.
I turned to face David.
He was smiling.
Maybe he felt my happiness.
I smiled back—this time, more genuine than afraid.
I guess it's official now. I am leaving a life of unemployment. Farewell, fellow unemployed.

I was admiring how much they copied my room in every detail.
Even the hole I made when I rage-quited!
"You see, Sir. Adrian—"
"AH! Damn it! Can you knock?!"
"But I did knock. Ahem, as I was saying, it is the caretaker's duty to ensure the newcomers feel at home."
"Caretakers? Ah, hold on—why are you my caretaker?"
"I have no idea myself."
"Haa," I sighed and plopped onto my bed.
Dang, even my bed feels just as bouncy as before.
"Anyway, can we drop the formalities? It's creeping me out."
"I'm afraid I cannot…but sure. Just for you."
A smile tugged at his face.
It was amazing how an office worker can smile as honestly as him.
Yes. Amazing. A complete opposite of what I saw in movies.
Wait—why the hell am I interested in a man's smile?
