Chapter 14 - 14

Chapter 14 First Kill!

Chapter 14 First Kill!

Su Jinjin, like a seasoned hamster, swiftly swept through every corner.

She didn't let any useful items in the house go to waste.

As her own world begins to face its end, she must stockpile as many supplies as possible.

Only a full supply of supplies could put her mind at ease.

Upon opening the bedroom wardrobe, I found two unopened down comforters.

I pulled out a few fairly sharp fruit knives from the kitchen drawer.

"Just because these are useless now doesn't mean they'll be useless later," Su Jinjin muttered to herself, stuffing all the looted supplies into her scavenging space.

Batteries, flashlights, lighters, ropes... Su Jinjin even found a huge machete, and she carefully inspected and put everything away.

As she bent down to check under the bed, she suddenly heard a muffled thud from upstairs, clearer than before.

Su Jinjin froze instantly, and fine beads of sweat appeared on her forehead.

I thought of the photos I saw in the newspaper.

"Could there be a parasitic monster in this house?"

Thump, thump, thump, the sound was like a large spider scraping on the floor.

The sound quickly approached...it seemed to have reached the stairwell.

"It's time to go." Su Jinjin decisively gave up on continuing the search and moved quietly towards the back door.

The sonic oscillation gun in my hand is set to level two. If danger arises, I can instantly activate [low-frequency oscillation] to repel the threat.

Just as Su Jinjin was about to touch the back door handle, a chilling "clucking" sound suddenly came from upstairs, like some kind of creature grinding its teeth.

Su Jinjin's back was instantly soaked with cold sweat. She didn't dare turn around, and gently turned the doorknob...

"Squeak—" The old wooden door made a jarring sound.

At the same time, a rapid "clattering" sound came from the stairs, and something was rushing down quickly!

"We've been discovered!" Su Jinjin's pupils shrank sharply, and her heart almost jumped out of her chest.

Without further hesitation, she flung open the back door and rushed outside.

However, the whooshing sound behind her told her that the other person was much faster than her!

"Whoosh—"

A dark shadow swept over her head and landed steadily three meters in front of her.

Su Jinjin stopped abruptly, finally seeing the true face of the pursuer.

It was... or rather, it used to be a feline.

The creature in front of me retained the general outline of a cat, but its entire body had undergone horrific deformities.

Its limbs were stretched to an unnatural degree, as thin as a spider, and its sharp claws scraped deep marks on the ground.

Large patches of the originally soft fur fell off, revealing the purplish-red muscle tissue underneath.

The most terrifying thing was those eyes—they had turned completely blood red and were staring intently at Su Jinjin, with sticky saliva constantly dripping from the corners of their mouths.

"Meow... Awooo..." It let out a strange howl, which sounded like a cat's meow and a low growl from some kind of wild beast.

Su Jinjin immediately activated [Eye of Resume]:

[Name: Parasitic Variant - Cat]

Gender: Father-in-law (bell removed)

[Special Skills: Carnivorous, Physical Enhancement]

Weaknesses: Fear of water and exposure to ultraviolet (sunlight).

The information and weaknesses provided by the resume editor are similar to those provided in newspapers.

It was obvious that the cat in front of them, which had once been a house cat, was now a creature that had been parasitized by bloodworms and had completely transformed into a bloodthirsty monster.

Its hind leg muscles were twitching constantly, clearly gathering strength to pounce.

"Meow—!"

With a distorted howl, the mutated cat pushed off with its hind legs and pounced on Su Jinjin like a spring.

The deformed claws gleamed coldly in the twilight, and the gaping maw was full of sharp fangs.

Su Jinjin's eyes narrowed, and she raised the sonic vibration gun with lightning speed in her left hand, firing a shot at the approaching black shadow.

"Buzz—!"

[Low-frequency oscillation] is enabled.

A shockwave, visible to the naked eye, erupted from the muzzle of the gun, distorting the air itself.

The mutated cat was hit head-on by the shockwave in mid-air, letting out a miserable howl. Its entire body was blasted away like a rag doll, crashing heavily to the ground five meters away.

Without the slightest hesitation, Su Jinjin's right hand flashed with silver light, and the silver needle instantly extended into a slender fencing.

She strode forward, and in the instant the mutated cat was still struggling to get up, the tip of her sword pierced out like a venomous snake.

The tailor's [Quick Sewing] skill then seamlessly connects.

"Sizzle! Sizzle! Sizzle!"

The silver needles darted between the mutated cat's limbs and the ground at astonishing speed, leaving silver trails in the air.

In the blink of an eye, the mutated cat was firmly "sewn" to the ground, the energy threads digging deep into its flesh, fixing it in place.

"Hiss... Roar..." The mutated cat twisted its body wildly, but those seemingly thin energy threads were tougher than steel.

Su Jinjin didn't want to look at this twisted creature even once more.

The next second, the silver needle fencing sword and the sonic shock gun were stored in her spatial storage. Then, she took out the sharp axe she had just found, gripped the handle with both hands, and chopped it down hard on the mutated cat's neck.

"Pfft!"

The dull thud of the axe blade piercing flesh was accompanied by the sound of blood spurting out.

The mutated cat's head rolled to the ground, its bloodshot eyes still displaying a ferocious expression.

Dark red blood gushed from the severed neck, forming a horrifying pool of blood on the ground.

"Huff..." Su Jinjin took two steps back, panting heavily. Her adrenaline surged, making her tremble slightly.

However, she did not let her guard down, keeping a watchful eye on the headless corpse that was still convulsing.

She noticed that something seemed to be wriggling in the blood of the severed lower half of the body.

A scarlet, spider-like worm is crawling out from the severed neck.

"The parasitic blood worm's true form!" Su Jinjin reacted immediately, and swung the axe down at the blood worm's body again.

Once, twice.

With four or five strikes, the bloodworm was reduced to fragments. Even the Eye of the Resume could not provide any information about the creature before it.

Su Jinjin was relieved.

[Ding! Parasitic Variant - Cat defeated, quest progress 1/100]

A system notification sounded in my mind.

Su Jinjin breathed a sigh of relief, but then tensed up again—the battle just now had been quite loud, and she had to leave this place as soon as possible.

She was terrified that another parasitic variant might appear here.

Su Jinjin's footsteps echoed hurriedly on the damp street. She kept looking back, afraid that another parasitic variant might jump out from some dark corner.

The cold rain hit her face, but it gave her a sense of relief—at least for now, those bloodthirsty monsters dared not easily appear in the rain.

"Splash—"

The rain is gradually subsiding, and the sky is getting darker.

Su Jinjin looked up at the sky, where the last ray of twilight peeking through the gaps in the dark clouds was being swallowed by the darkness.

She knew that once the rain completely stopped and night fell, the parasitic monster that feared water and light would appear.

"Where should I go?" She bit her lip and looked around.

During the first instance, she was lucky enough to find a working phone and was able to find her destination using a map app.

But now, she can only rely on her own judgment.

In the distance, through the hazy rain, a white ribbon of water cascades down the cliff, standing out vividly in the twilight.

"Waterfall…" Su Jinjin's eyes lit up.

A waterfall signifies a continuous source of water, and the sound of the flowing water can mask its movement.

More importantly, parasitic organisms dislike environments with abundant moisture, which are likely to be relatively safe areas.
