KHALID AND ROMAN SPOTTED TOGETHER DESPITE SEPARATE ENGAGEMENTS

The prince and actress were photographed leaving the same building at 2 AM last night. Both are engaged to other people. Both claim it was "just talking." Sources aren't buying it.

ROMAN HELTON SEEN WITHOUT ENGAGEMENT RING — TROUBLE WITH RANDALL?

The actress attended an industry event last night. No ring. When asked about it, she said it was "being resized." Sure, Roman. Sure.

IS KHALID'S ARRANGED MARRIAGE ALREADY FALLING APART?

The prince was supposed to be in Dubai this week meeting with Amira's family. Instead? He's in Los Angeles. With Roman. The wedding is in four months. This isn't going to work.

---

Lainey Gossip

They said they'd stay apart. They lasted three weeks. Now they're meeting in secret, lying to their fiancés, and pretending this is sustainable. It's not. Something has to break.

---

NARRATIVE

The text comes at midnight.

Roman is at Randall's place. They're watching a movie. Playing the happy couple.

Her phone buzzes.

*I need to see you*

She stares at it for thirty seconds before responding.

*You can't*

*I know*

*Then don't ask*

*I'm asking anyway*

She looks at Randall. He's watching the movie. Hasn't noticed.

*Where?*

*Your old apartment. One hour*

She shouldn't go. Knows she shouldn't go.

Types: *Okay*

---

She tells Randall she's tired. Needs to go home.

He doesn't believe her but he doesn't push.

"Text me when you get there?"

"I will."

She won't.

She drives to her old apartment building. The one she gave up. The one she hasn't been to in over a year.

Khalid is already there. Leaning against his car. Looking exhausted.

"What are we doing?" she asks.

"I don't know."

"You called me."

"I know."

"So what do you want?"

He looks at her for a long moment. "You. I want you."

"You can't have me. You're getting married in four months."

"I know."

"Then what are we doing here?"

He doesn't answer. Just pulls her close and kisses her.

She should push him away. Should get in her car and leave.

She kisses him back.

---

They end up in her car.

Windows fogging. Seats pushed back. Desperate and messy.

After—when they're both breathing hard and trying to remember why this was a bad idea—she says:

"This can't happen again."

"I know."

"I'm engaged to someone else."

"So am I."

"Then we need to stop."

"I know." He pulls her closer. "But I can't."

"You have to."

"Tell me you don't want this. Tell me you don't want me. And I'll leave. I'll marry Amira and never bother you again."

She's quiet.

"Say it," he says. "Tell me you don't want this."

"I can't."

"Then we're both fucked."

---

It becomes a pattern.

He texts. She responds. They meet.

Sometimes it's just talking. Sometimes it's more.

But it's always 2 AM. Always secret. Always ending with one of them saying "this can't happen again."

And then it happens again.

---

Week two, Randall figures it out.

"You saw him last night."

Roman freezes. "What?"

"Khalid. You saw him."

"I didn't—"

"Don't lie. You left at midnight. You came back at 4 AM. Your hair was messed up." He's not angry. Just—resigned. "You saw him."

She doesn't answer.

"I knew this would happen," Randall says. "I knew you couldn't stay away from each other."

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be. This was always temporary." He sits down. "But we had a deal. And you're not keeping it."

"I know."

"So what do we do?"

"I don't know."

He's quiet for a moment. "I release you from the deal. The 'give us a chance' part. You don't owe me that anymore."

"Randall—"

"But I need something in return."

"What?"

"Honesty. If you're seeing him, tell me. Don't lie. Don't sneak around. Just—be honest."

She stares at him. "You're okay with me seeing Khalid while engaged to you?"

"I'm not okay with it. But I'm realistic about it." He looks at her. "You love him. You're always going to love him. And pretending you don't is making you miserable."

"So what—we just keep up the charade while I see him on the side?"

"If that's what it takes." He shrugs. "I agreed to help you. This is helping you. Even if it's not the way we planned."

---

She tells Khalid about the conversation.

They're in his car. 2 AM. Parked somewhere dark.

"Randall knows."

"Knows what?"

"About us. About the fact that I'm seeing you."

Khalid goes very still. "What did he say?"

"He said he's okay with it. Said I can keep seeing you as long as I'm honest with him."

"That's—"

"I know."

"Does Amira know?"

"I don't know. Do you tell her things?"

"No. We don't—" He stops. "We don't talk much. The engagement is business. Her family and my family negotiating terms."

"Have you met her?"

"Once. Video call. She seems nice."

"Nice."

"What do you want me to say? That I'm in love with her? I'm not. I'm in love with you. I'm marrying her because I have to."

"You don't have to."

"Yes I do. We've been over this."

They're quiet for a long moment.

"This is insane," Roman says.

"I know."

"We're both engaged to other people. Seeing each other in secret. Lying to everyone."

"I know."

"It's not sustainable."

"I know." He takes her hand. "But what's the alternative? I marry Amira and never see you again? You marry Randall and pretend you don't love me?"

"Maybe."

"That's not going to happen."

"How do you know?"

"Because neither of us can do it. We tried. We lasted three weeks."

He's right. She hates that he's right.

---

Month 25, they get sloppy.

Leave the same building at the same time. Get photographed.

TMZ has the photo within an hour.

Roman's phone explodes. Randall. Her agent. Avery. Everyone.

She ignores them all.

Khalid texts: *I'm sorry*

*It's fine*

*It's not fine. We got caught*

*So what do we do?*

*I don't know*

---

Randall sees the photo.

"You left my place at midnight. Met him at 2 AM. Left together at 4."

"Yes."

"And now everyone knows."

"Yes."

"So what happens now?"

"I don't know."

He's quiet for a long moment. "I'll say we had a fight. That you left upset. That I don't know where you went."

"You'd lie for me?"

"I've been lying for you for two months. What's one more?"

---

Khalid's family sees the photo.

His father calls.

Yelling. Accusations. Demands.

Khalid listens for five minutes. Then hangs up.

Calls Roman.

"My family knows."

"I know. Mine does too."

"What did Randall say?"

"He's covering for me. Said we had a fight."

"And Amira?"

"Her family is—" He stops. "Not pleased."

"Are they calling off the wedding?"

"They're threatening to. My father is trying to smooth things over. Saying it was a mistake. That you mean nothing to me."

She shouldn't feel hurt by that. Knows it's what he has to say.

Feels hurt anyway.

"Maybe they should call it off," she says.

"They won't. Too much money involved. Too many agreements." He's quiet. "But we need to be more careful."

"Or we need to stop."

"We're not stopping."

"Khalid—"

"We're not. I don't care if everyone knows. I don't care if the wedding gets called off. I don't care about any of it." His voice is raw. "All I care about is you."

"That's not—"

"I know it's not practical. I know it's not smart. I know we're making everything worse." He stops. "But I can't lose you. I won't."

She's quiet for a long moment. "Then what do we do?"

"I don't know. But we figure it out. Together."

---

Two days later, they meet again.

Same place. Same time. 2 AM.

"This is never going to work," Roman says.

"I know."

"You're getting married in three months."

"I know."

"And I'm still engaged to Randall."

"I know."

"So what's the plan?"

He pulls her close. "There is no plan. There's just—this. Us. However we can have it."

"That's not enough."

"It's all we have."

She's quiet. Then: "What if we just—didn't get married? Either of us?"

"My family would disown me."

"So?"

"So I'd lose everything. Position. Money. Access. Everything."

"Would that be so bad?"

He's quiet for a long moment. "Yes. Because then I couldn't protect you. Couldn't make your problems disappear. Couldn't give you the life you deserve."

"I don't need you to give me a life. I need you to be in my life."

"You can't have both?"

"Not like this."

They're both quiet.

"Three months," Khalid says finally. "Three months until the wedding. Let's just—get through the next three months. And then we'll figure out what comes next."

"And what if what comes next is you being married to someone else?"

"Then we'll figure that out too."

It's not a plan. It's barely a hope.

But it's what they have.
