"Now that you've had your fill, are you satisfied? Where to now?"
As they walked downstairs from the inn, Sakura glanced at Kaien and asked.
"To your house, of course," Kaien replied as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
"What? Are you still worried Sasuke will take me back?" Sakura rolled her eyes impatiently.
"How could I be? I just want to see Sarada, that's all. After all, she's going to be—"
Before Kaien could finish, Sakura quickly covered his mouth.
"Don't talk nonsense. If anyone hears you, we're finished."
She cautiously scanned the area outside the inn. Only after confirming no one was paying attention did she release him.
"You are absolutely not allowed to say anything strange to Sarada. Especially not telling her to call you her dad. Understand?"
Her tone was serious.
Sarada was still young and would believe anything. If she started shouting such things and Mikoto heard, suspicion would definitely arise.
"Don't worry. I won't say anything foolish," Kaien promised.
Only then did Sakura nod and follow him away from the inn.
"Hmm? Is that Sakura?"
Just as they stepped out, a beautiful woman in the distance noticed Sakura's back and muttered in confusion.
Although Sakura had used a Transformation Jutsu before leaving, the woman still recognized her figure instantly.
"Why is she coming out of an inn? And with a man?"
She sighed softly.
"That poor child… her husband is never home. I warned her not to marry Sasuke, but she wouldn't listen. Now look at this…"
Shaking her head helplessly, she turned and left without investigating further.
"Sakura!"
Just as Sakura brought Kaien to her doorstep, a voice suddenly called out from behind.
Her body stiffened. Slowly, she turned around.
Sasuke stood on the street, looking at her calmly.
"Sasuke… when did you get back?" Sakura asked, feigning surprise.
Her heart was pounding violently.
He shouldn't have seen anything. He shouldn't have seen them leaving the inn.
"Last night," Sasuke replied.
"Why are you standing outside? Come in and sit down."
"Mm."
Sasuke nodded and walked over.
"Brother Sasuke!" Kaien greeted with a smile.
"Kaien. Long time no see."
"Yes, long time no see. Brother Sasuke is still as handsome as ever!" Kaien chuckled.
Sasuke merely nodded lightly.
Sakura pushed the door open. Hearing movement, Mikoto came out of the living room.
"Sakura, you're back. Were you tired last night?" Mikoto asked casually.
That morning, she had noticed the living room light was still on and Sakura wasn't home. She assumed Sakura had rushed to the hospital for work.
But to Sakura, the question carried a completely different meaning.
She had indeed been very tired last night—though not from work.
"Mm," Sakura replied softly, not elaborating.
"Kaien, you also—" Mikoto's words halted when she noticed Sasuke standing behind him.
"Sa-Sasuke? When did you return?" Her eyes widened in disbelief.
She hurried forward, touching his shoulders and arms anxiously.
"You've lost weight… why are you so thin?"
Tears welled up in her eyes as she looked at her son.
"Mom, I'm fine," Sasuke said quietly.
"Oh, come inside quickly. Don't stand out here."
Wiping her tears, Mikoto pulled him into the house and called out,
"Sarada! Come quickly! Your dad is home!"
Thump, thump, thump!
Sarada rushed out excitedly.
But when she saw both Sasuke and Kaien at the door, she froze.
Sasuke looked at his daughter. A trace of tenderness flickered in his eyes.
"Daddy!"
After only a brief pause, Sarada ran straight into Kaien's arms.
Everyone froze.
Even Sakura's heart skipped violently.
Sarada had once mistakenly called Kaien "Daddy" before, and Mikoto had corrected her. But Sarada adored Kaien—he always played with her.
Now that she heard "Daddy is back" and saw Kaien standing there, she naturally called out to him again.
After all… she had no memory of Sasuke.
"Uh…"
The atmosphere became awkward instantly.
Kaien quickly rubbed Sarada's head.
"Sarada, I'm your Brother Kaien, not your dad. That's your dad."
He gently pointed toward Sasuke.
"Ah?" Sarada blinked and looked up at Sasuke curiously.
She stepped down from Kaien's arms and stood in front of Sasuke, tilting her little head up.
Sasuke extended a hand and gently stroked her hair, his eyes soft.
"Are you really my daddy?" Sarada asked innocently.
"Mm," Sasuke nodded.
"Then can you let me ride a horse?"
Her eyes sparkled with excitement.
Sasuke looked puzzled.
"Oh! It's when you lie on the ground and I sit on your back and you crawl like a horse!" she explained eagerly.
As a cool and aloof man, how could Sasuke possibly agree to such a thing?
"Sorry. I can't do that," he refused calmly.
Sarada's face fell instantly.
She pouted and ran into Sakura's arms.
"Mommy, I don't want this daddy! Let's get a different daddy! I want Brother Kaien to be my daddy!"
Sakura's heart nearly leapt out of her chest.
She gently patted Sarada and scolded, "Don't talk nonsense!"
"Waaah! Waaah! I want a different daddy! I want a different daddy!"
Sarada began to cry loudly.
"Sarada, be good. Brother Kaien will let you ride a horse. Don't cry, don't cry," Kaien coaxed gently.
