Chapter 81 - Chapter Eighty: Echoes Before the First War

For a long moment after the First Judges vanished, no one moved.

The courtyard remained silent except for the soft whisper of wind returning to the world. The immense pressure their presence had carried slowly lifted, like a mountain finally taken off the chest of existence itself.

But the words they left behind still lingered.

The birth of this child will awaken the First War.

Lucien exhaled slowly and ran a hand through his hair.

"Well," he muttered, "that could have gone worse."

Celestia looked at him.

"Worse?"

"They could have decided to erase us all," he said.

Lucifer laughed softly from behind them.

"A reasonable concern."

Celestia turned toward him.

"You already knew something like this might happen."

Lucifer tilted his head slightly.

"I suspected."

Lucien crossed his arms.

"Suspected what exactly?"

Lucifer's gaze moved briefly to Celestia's abdomen, thoughtful now rather than calculating.

"That when primal forces create life willingly… the universe notices."

The Spirit Guide appeared beside Celestia again, quieter now but still alert.

"The Seraphim spoke truth," it said.

Lucien groaned.

"Which part? There were several terrifying ones."

The Guide's silver light dimmed slightly.

"The First War."

Celestia's eyes narrowed.

"The war before Heaven ruled the celestial realms."

The Guide nodded.

"Yes."

Lucien frowned.

"Wait… Heaven wasn't always in charge?"

Lucifer chuckled.

"Oh, not even close."

Lucien looked between them.

"Okay, someone needs to start explaining things before ancient monsters start knocking on the door."

Celestia folded her arms thoughtfully.

"The Seraphim said the child will attract forces older than Heaven."

Lucifer stepped forward slowly, his voice quieter now.

"There were powers that existed before celestial law."

Lucien raised an eyebrow.

"Let me guess. They were terrible."

Lucifer smiled faintly.

"They were free."

The Spirit Guide continued.

"Before the Father of All established the cosmic order, the realms were ruled by primordial entities."

Celestia's expression grew more serious.

"The First Ones."

The Guide nodded again.

"Yes."

Lucien rubbed his temples.

"So the Seraphim basically announced that our unborn child might wake up ancient beings older than angels."

Lucifer spread his hands lightly.

"More or less."

Lucien stared at him.

"And you look excited about that."

Lucifer did not deny it.

"History repeating itself has always fascinated me."

Celestia ignored him and looked toward the sky where the Judges had vanished.

"They said the child will alter the balance."

Lucien placed a hand over hers where it rested on her abdomen.

"He already has."

She looked down briefly.

The warmth there was stronger again—steady, peaceful.

Alive.

But the Spirit Guide spoke again.

"There is another consequence."

Lucien sighed.

"Of course there is."

The Guide continued calmly.

"The moment the Seraphim delivered their verdict… the protection of Heaven's law ended."

Celestia understood immediately.

"Meaning Heaven cannot act against us directly anymore."

Lucifer nodded.

"Correct."

Lucien smiled.

"That sounds like good news."

Lucifer's eyes darkened slightly.

"Unless they decide to act indirectly."

Lucien's smile faded.

"Oh."

Celestia looked toward Lucifer.

"You think they will?"

Lucifer answered without hesitation.

"They must."

Lucien frowned.

"Why?"

"Because if they allow your child to be born peacefully," Lucifer explained, "every realm will question Heaven's authority."

Celestia finished the thought quietly.

"So they will try something that cannot be traced back to them."

The Spirit Guide confirmed it.

"That is the most probable outcome."

Lucien cracked his knuckles again.

"Fantastic."

Before anyone could speak further, the ground beneath the palace trembled faintly.

Lucien instantly looked down.

"Tell me that's not one of the ancient forces already waking up."

The Spirit Guide shook its head.

"No."

Celestia closed her eyes briefly, focusing.

Then she smiled faintly.

Lucien blinked.

"What?"

She opened her eyes again.

"He's reacting."

Lucien looked confused.

"Reacting to what?"

Celestia placed his hand over her abdomen.

The warmth there pulsed softly beneath his palm.

For a brief moment, Lucien felt it.

A tiny spark of phoenix warmth.

But it wasn't just his fire.

There was something else.

Something calmer.

Older.

Balanced.

Lucien's expression shifted completely.

"He… pushed back."

Celestia nodded.

"When the Seraphim scanned him."

Lucifer's interest sharpened immediately.

"That is unusual."

The Spirit Guide's voice was thoughtful.

"Very unusual."

Lucien looked down again, almost amazed.

"Our kid just resisted ancient divine analysis?"

Celestia laughed quietly.

"He's already stubborn."

Lucifer folded his arms slowly.

"No," he said softly.

"He's already powerful."

The wind shifted again, colder now.

Far away, deep within the forgotten parts of the universe—beyond Heaven, beyond Hell, beyond the mortal realm—

something stirred.

Something that had slept since before celestial law existed.

A single ancient eye opened in the darkness.

And a voice older than the stars whispered:

"Balance… has created an heir."

Back in the palace courtyard, Lucien suddenly felt a chill run through him.

He looked up at the horizon.

"Did anyone else feel that?"

Celestia's expression grew serious again.

"Yes."

Lucifer's smile slowly returned.

"Well," he said.

"It seems the Seraphim were correct."

Lucien looked at him.

"About what?"

Lucifer gazed toward the endless sky.

"The First War…"

His eyes gleamed faintly.

"…has begun to wake."

It's starting to get more interesting.
