Chapter 89 - Poker? You got a poker face?

When they arrived at the cafeteria Silas did as usual and went over to the lunch line.

Alice and Kate were close behind.

Silas was a little excited.

He didn't know if it was because of him or something else but lately they had been selling better apples.

These ones were fresher and not so grainy.

Especially the sour green ones were really a step in the right direction.

But this has also caused more students to buy them.

Hopefully they've not all been sold.

When he stepped up and met the gaze of the lunch lady she gave him a smile.

"The usual?"

Silas nodded.

She quickly grabbed an apple and a juice box, then she grabbed what Kate and Alice usually bought.

"Here."

Silas took out some cash from his pocket and paid.

Then Kate stepped forward to grab her stuff, and so did Alice.

She mostly bought food for appearance, and then she gave it all to Silas.

That's why she bought the same things as him.

But she bought a red apple instead. Variation you know.

We can't all be carefree dogs who can eat the same brown dry smelly pellets everyday and still be excited.

When they arrived at the table and sat down, a conversation was already in full swing.

"Where is Rosalie?" Ella asked Emmett.

Emmett smiled slightly.

"She has started to play video games with me, but she lost so much she wanted to become better."

"So she is at home and practicing."

Ella raised an eyebrow, and so did the rest of the Cullens.

Is this really the Rosalie they know?

"How did she get this idea?" Jasper asked with a confused expression.

Hearing this question Emmett just shrugged his shoulders.

Silas was just smiling slightly as he listened to their theories.

Alice and Kate noticed the slight infuriating smile on his lips and rolled their eyes.

No need to search further, we've found the culprit.

Then after a while Kate stood up.

"I gotta go, my class starts now."

"Already?" Alice asked, confused.

Kate nodded.

Everyone said goodbye as she walked away.

Not long after she left the conversation at the table shifted.

"Those damn vampires are really arrogant." Jasper complained.

Silas opened his juice box, and raised an eyebrow as he heard that.

"What happened?"

Jasper looked at him, then sighed.

"We've been hunting them down, but they keep leading us around by our noses."

"And since only two or three of us go at the same time to hunt them, we haven't caught them."

Then Emmett grumbled.

"And sending more of us is so humiliating, they've been running rampant in our territory and we need nearly half the coven to take them down?"

Tsk. Emmett clicked his tongue.

The rest of the Cullens nodded along.

Jasper then spoke up.

"We believe one of them must be a strong tracker since they can trick and evade us like this."

Silas nodded.

It's Jasper indeed, he's already grasped the crux of the problem.

Silas took a sip of his juice, and a frown appeared on his face.

Straight sugar!

He looked at the juice box in his hand.

Now that they'd upgraded the apples in the cafeteria maybe the juice is next in line?

Although it was a long shot, and a bit of a dream.

Silas had never been afraid to dream.

Just then Ella spoke out, 'cause when Silas was thinking about juice, the Cullens were arguing about the trio.

"But we can't just let them run amok in our territory, it reflects badly on us."

"So would sending half the coven to chase away three vampires of our turf." Emmett grumbled.

And the argument was going on in full force.

Silas didn't really have anything to say in this argument.

He just played with Alice's hand under the table.

And Alice was too focused on what was happening under the table that she didn't care about what was going on above the table.

And soon the lunch was over.

"You got history class next." Alice said as they walked out of the cafeteria hand in hand.

Silas smiled and said.

"Thank you for memorizing my schedule."

Alice rolled her eyes playfully.

"Well, someone has to."

Silas just chuckled in response.

Just then they arrived at Silas's locker, he took out his books and turned to look at Alice.

"Is this where we separate?"

Alice scoffed.

"No need to make it sound so dramatic, we'll be meeting right after at your car."

Silas shook his head.

"I'm not being dramatic, every time we separate it's like I lose a part of myself."

Alice chuckled at his self righteous act.

"Yeah, yeah, I'll see you later my missing part."

Silas watched Alice's back disappear around the corner and chuckled.

He loved annoying her by being overly dramatic.

Then he looked down at his history books and lightly smacked his lips.

History, how fun.

It's not even that history is boring, it's just these boring teachers that can't talk about anything fun.

They must always nitpick on the smallest details and focus on the most boring parts.

It's like they want you not to like their subject.

When he walked out of history class Silas's face was dark.

He really should just become a prophet, the lesson was dangerously boring, as usual.

When he arrived at his locker he felt that this class left a bad taste in his mouth.

It nearly motivated him to become a teacher and then teach in a more fun and entertaining way.

Of course he wouldn't… but the idea did cross his mind at least a dozen times.

After he closed his locker he made his way towards the parking lot.

At least the weekend will be good.

Not only will he get quality time with Alice today and during the night.

He would also get to play some baseball tomorrow, and witness the famous face off between the Cullens and the trio.

Couldn't this weigh up the boringness of today's history class? He mused to himself as he walked out the doors.

When he walked down the stairs leading to the parking lot he saw that Kate and Alice were already standing there talking.

"Oh, please forgive this chauffeur for being late, I had quite the stimulating breakfast this morning." Silas said with a fake British accent.

Both Kate and Alice let out an exasperated chuckle at his antics.

Sometimes Silas really was just too annoying.

Silas unlocked the car and opened the passenger door for Alice.

After she sat down he walked over to his driver's side and also sat down.

When they were just a minute or so away from Kate's house she suddenly spoke.

"Silas, my sister has agreed to have a poker night next weekend."

"If you and Alice wanna come, that is."

Silas put on a thoughtful expression.

"Poker?" Alice voiced.

"Sounds fun, Silas, let's do it."

Silas glanced over at Alice and then smiled mischievously.

"Sure, but don't come crying to me when I win."

Alice chuckled, then raised her chin.

"We'll see about that, it might be you who'll need to hold in tears."

When they stopped in front of Kate's house they both turned back and said in unison.

"We agree!"

Seeing their shenanigans Kate couldn't help but laugh.

"Alright, I'll tell my sister."

"See you two on monday."

"Yeah see you." Silas and Alice once again voiced in unison, squeezing another laugh out of Kate as she closed the car door.

Watching Kate enter the front door, Silas put the car in drive and started to drive off.

...

Enjoy. Mwah~
