Chapter 22 - “Still”

Two years had passed.

Their last year was almost over.

Everyone was busy talking about college, entrances, future plans. The classroom that once felt loud and chaotic now felt nostalgic.

But some things hadn't changed.

Anna still liked Oliver.

Not in the childish, nervous way from Class 7.

Not in the jealous, confused way from Class 8.

This feeling was calmer now.

Deeper.

Quieter.

But still there.

That day during farewell practice, Anna was standing near the window with Sophia and Emily. They were laughing about old memories.

"Remember when Oliver first joined?" Emily said randomly.

Sophia laughed. "He was so silent!"

Anna smiled softly but didn't say anything.

Across the room, Oliver was adjusting the mic stand for the boys' performance.

For a moment, he looked up.

And his eyes found hers.

Not by accident.

Not quickly.

He held the eye contact.

Just for a few seconds.

Anna's heart reacted the same way it always had.

Even after two years.

Even after distance.

Even after silence.

She looked away first.

But this time she didn't feel sad.

She just felt… aware.

She still liked him.

And she had accepted it.

Later, during a free period, he came to her desk.

"Do you have the physics notes from yesterday?" he asked.

"Yes," she replied, handing them to him.

Their fingers brushed slightly.

A small, simple moment.

But it stayed with her the whole day.

"Thank you," he said softly.

"No problem."

There was something unspoken between them.

Not awkward.

Not heavy.

Just unfinished.

That evening, Anna sat on her bed thinking about everything.

She could confess.

It was their last year.

Nothing to lose.

But then she thought about friendship.

About how long they had all been together.

About how sometimes silence protects more than words.

She smiled to herself.

She still liked Oliver.

And maybe she always would remember him that way.

Her first silent love.

Her longest secret.

And as the last school days slowly came closer—

Anna realized something.

Even if he never knew…

Her feelings were real.

And that was enough. 💙
