Chapter 34 - “Where We Belong”

Life didn't slow down for them.

Meetings resumed. Flights resumed. Deadlines returned.

But something had changed in the middle of all that chaos.

They weren't just successful individuals anymore.

They were partners.

Not just in business.

But in choosing each other, every single day

.

One evening, after a long week, Oliver showed up at Anna's office unexpectedly.

"No meeting scheduled," she said, looking up from her laptop.

"This isn't a meeting," he replied.

He placed two flight tickets on her desk.

She looked at them.

"Where are we going?"

He smiled slightly. "Somewhere important."

Two days later, they stood in front of their old school building.

The gate looked smaller.

The corridors quieter.

But the memories?

Still alive.

Anna let out a soft breath.

"I haven't been here in years."

"Me neither," Oliver admitted.

They walked slowly through the hallway.

Past classrooms.

Past the staircase where she once misunderstood everything.

They stopped outside their old classroom.

The classroom was quiet.

Sunlight streamed through the windows, falling across the old wooden desks. The same desks where they once avoided eye contact. The same room where everything had started.

Anna stood near her old seat, her fingers lightly brushing the edge of the desk.

Oliver stepped closer.

"Feels strange, doesn't it?" he said softly.

"Strange," she nodded. "But right."

There was no noise. No classmates. No fear of being seen.

Just them.

Ten years ago, they were too shy to even hold hands properly.

Now, they stood face to face — not as teenagers, but as two adults who had chosen each other.

"You know," Oliver said quietly, "I imagined this moment a thousand times."

She raised an eyebrow playfully. "In your imagination, did I say yes easily?"

He smiled. "You made me work for it."

"Good."

He stepped closer, slowly, giving her time.

Always giving her time.

"Anna," he murmured, his voice softer now, "we wasted years because we were afraid."

She looked up at him, her heart steady.

"We didn't waste them," she corrected gently. "We grew."

He smiled at that.

"You're right."

There was no rush in his movements when he lifted his hand to gently tuck a strand of hair behind her ear.

The gesture was careful.

Respectful.

Intentional.

"May I?" he asked quietly.

She didn't look away this time.

She didn't hesitate.

"Yes."

He leaned in slowly, giving her space to step back if she wanted.

She didn't.

Their first kiss wasn't dramatic.

It wasn't rushed or overwhelming.

It was soft.

Warm.

A promise more than a moment.

When they pulled away slightly, their foreheads rested together.

Anna let out a quiet breath she didn't realize she was holding.

"So," he whispered lightly, "was it worth the ten-year wait?"

She smiled.

"Yes."

Outside the window, the world continued as usual.

But inside that classroom, something long unfinished finally felt complete.

No misunderstandings.

No silence.

No almost.

Just two hearts that found their way back —

And this time,

They weren't letting go. 💙✨
