Chapter 90 - Chapter 90: Shadows And Secrets

Chapter 90: Shadows and Secrets

(Jay Jay's POV)

The night had settled over New York, but the city felt far from peaceful.

From my perch in the penthouse, I watched the skyline flicker with neon lights, a thousand lives going on unaware of the storm heading straight for one of the most important people in my life—Keifer.

I leaned forward over my laptop, eyes scanning multiple screens. Each camera feed, each street corner, each shadow… every single movement was mapped.

I was the leader. The one pulling the strings. The one who would make sure Keifer's world stayed intact, even if he didn't know why.

Savannah, sitting across from me with a headset clamped over her ears, tapped quietly on a tablet. "I've got eyes on the perimeter. Nothing unusual so far, but Keizer's men could appear at any second."

I nodded. My heart pounded in my chest, adrenaline mixing with the gnawing fear I was hiding from Keifer.

Sophia's fingers flew over her laptop. "I've tapped into his digital footprint. Payments, travel routes, secure locations. If Keizer tries anything, we'll know before he even moves an inch."

Olivia leaned back, checking her notes. "Operations are ready. Jay Jay, if you give the signal, we move in synchronized fashion. No mistakes. Everyone knows their role."

Amy quietly loaded weapons, her presence silent but lethal. Mia, our medic, double-checked medical kits, ready for injuries we all hoped wouldn't happen.

I exhaled. My team was flawless. Every move had been rehearsed, every detail anticipated.

And yet…

Keifer had that sixth sense. The one that made him so impossible to surprise.

I bit my lip, imagining him just a floor below, blissfully unaware of what danger lurked outside. My stomach tightened.

I couldn't let him find out—not yet. Not until Keizer Watson was neutralized.

I pulled up the final maps, analyzing entry points, escape routes, and ambush possibilities. Savannah's voice cut through the tense silence.

"Jay Jay… something's off. I'm picking up unusual traffic near the Hudson. Could be scouts, could be bait."

I froze.

I didn't take my eyes off the screen.

"Lock down your stations," I ordered calmly, though my heart was racing. "No movement unless it's mine. Everyone silent. Everyone patient."

Sophia's hands didn't falter. "Hacking into the surveillance cameras now. We'll see who's really moving."

And then it came into view—a black SUV, moving with precision. A second, a third, a dozen men following. The Obsidian Circle had verified the message: Keizer Watson was here, personally orchestrating the attack.

I clenched my fists, jaw tight.

Jay Jay: "No mistakes tonight. We protect Keifer at all costs. Understood?"

Amy: "Understood, leader."

Savannah: "Ready."

Olivia: "All coordinated."

Mia: "Medical coverage is prepped."

Sophia: "Hacker lines open."

I took a deep breath. My hands hovered over the keyboard.

This was it.

The moment where everything could change.

The city outside was oblivious. But inside, our plan was flawless. Or at least… it had to be.

(Keifer's POV, unaware of the danger)

I was in the kitchen, cleaning up the last of the dishes from dinner. The scent of garlic and rosemary lingered in the air.

Jay Jay had disappeared upstairs, muttering something about studying or projects. I had no idea what she was doing, but I knew that look—intense focus, her signature.

I smiled to myself. That determination… that fire… it was one of the reasons I loved her so much.

And yet… a whisper of unease settled in my chest.

Something felt off.

I shook it off, blaming it on fatigue. After all, we had just moved to New York, just settled into our new lives. Graduation was done. University was starting soon. Life was… supposed to be calm.

But still… a nagging feeling remained.

(Jay Jay's POV)

Hours passed. The SUV and its convoy moved through the streets, careful not to draw attention. But we were faster. Smarter. Anticipating each step.

Sophia's voice buzzed in my earpiece.

"Jay Jay… intercept team approaching. Estimated arrival in five minutes."

I leaned back, eyes narrowing.

Jay Jay: "Good. Everyone, positions. Savannah, flank. Amy, rear. Olivia, you coordinate extraction. Mia, medic standby. Sophia, I want eyes on every alley, every street."

The Obsidian Circle moved like shadows, perfectly synchronized, blending with the night.

I felt a strange thrill of adrenaline and fear mix. This was what I was built for. This was why I was their leader.

And through it all… my mind couldn't stop picturing Keifer, below, unaware of the storm outside.

I wanted to keep him safe. More than life itself.

Minutes later, the first clash occurred.

Black-clad mercenaries, alerted to the Obsidian Circle's presence, tried to ambush us near the Hudson. But Savannah's precision shots took out their engines silently. Amy and I neutralized anyone approaching the perimeter.

Sophia's hacking lines gave us control over surveillance feeds, making our movements invisible. Olivia coordinated extraction routes for civilians nearby, ensuring no one was caught in crossfire.

I moved through the shadows, every step calculated. Every motion a dance with danger.

And through it all, I couldn't stop thinking…

Keifer below, humming, completely oblivious.

(Keifer's POV)

Something tugged at me—an instinct I couldn't explain.

I walked to the living room window, looking down at the streets below. The lights flickered strangely, shadows moved. My heart started racing.

I frowned. Something was happening. Something bad.

I grabbed my phone, intending to call Jay Jay, but it was too late.

A sense of dread settled over me.

She wasn't here.

And suddenly… I felt it. Danger. Close. Too close.

(Jay Jay's POV)

The team had secured a perimeter. Keizer Watson, the target, was inside a secured building, preparing a strike.

Jay Jay: "Phase two. We neutralize quietly. No casualties. Keifer stays unaware."

Mia whispered through her headset: "Medic ready. Target seems armed."

I swallowed hard. The plan was risky, but we had trained for this.

I signaled Amy, who moved with lethal precision, neutralizing threats silently. Savannah flanked, cutting off reinforcements. Olivia coordinated extraction routes. Sophia maintained our digital invisibility.

And then… I moved in.

Every step was silent. Every breath controlled.

Keizer Watson was closer than ever, preparing his own strike.

I raised my weapon, heart pounding and....

(Jay Jay's POV)

The hallway was silent.

Too silent.

The kind of silence that wraps around your throat and dares you to breathe.

Every step I took echoed in my head, even though my feet made no sound.

My grip tightened slightly.

Not from fear.

Never from fear.

But from knowing what stood behind that door.

Keizer Watson.

Keifer's father.

The man who was supposed to protect him…

Was now the one trying to destroy him.

My jaw clenched.

Jay Jay (whispering):

"Positions."

Savannah (low):

"Left flank secured."

Amy:

"Rear is clean."

Olivia:

"Exit routes ready."

Sophia:

"I've looped the cameras. You're invisible."

Mia:

"Medical standby."

Perfect.

I placed my hand on the door handle.

Cold.

And in that moment—

I thought of him.

Keifer.

His stupid smirk.

His dramatic complaints.

The way he looks at me like I'm his entire world.

My chest tightened.

Jay Jay (soft, to myself):

"You're not touching him."

And then—

I pushed the door open.

(Inside the Room)

The lights were dim.

A large window overlooked the city.

And there he stood.

Keizer Watson.

Tall.

Composed.

Dangerous.

He didn't turn immediately.

Keizer:

"I was wondering when you'd show up."

My eyes narrowed.

Jay Jay:

"You knew."

He turned slowly.

A calm smile on his face.

Keizer:

"I always know."

Silence.

Tension.

Electric.

Keizer:

"The Obsidian Circle's little leader."

Jay Jay:

"Don't flatter me."

Keizer chuckled softly.

Keizer:

"You're protecting him."

Jay Jay:

"Yes."

Keizer:

"…how touching."

His eyes darkened slightly.

Keizer:

"But unnecessary."

Jay Jay:

"It's very necessary."

Keizer took a step closer.

Keizer:

"You think you can stop me?"

Jay Jay (cold):

"I don't think."

Pause.

Jay Jay:

"I know."

Silence.

Then—

A slow clap.

Keizer:

"Confidence. I like that."

Jay Jay:

"You won't like what comes next."

And in one swift motion—

The room exploded into movement.

(Action — Controlled, Strategic)

Savannah cut off the side entrance.

Amy disarmed two guards before they could react.

Olivia coordinated exits.

Sophia locked down communications.

Mia stayed ready.

And me?

I didn't take my eyes off Keizer.

Because this—

Was personal.

Keizer moved fast.

Faster than expected.

He reached for a weapon—

But I was faster.

I stepped in.

Blocked.

Twisted his arm.

Controlled.

Precise.

Jay Jay (low):

"It's over."

Keizer didn't struggle.

Didn't panic.

He smiled.

Keizer:

"Is it?"

And for a second—

Something felt wrong.

Too easy.

(Meanwhile — Keifer's POV)

Something snapped.

I couldn't ignore it anymore.

That feeling—

That instinct—

It wasn't going away.

Keifer:

"…Jay."

I moved fast.

Out of the penthouse.

Into the night.

Because something was happening.

And I wasn't going to sit there like an idiot while she—

No.

I clenched my jaw.

Keifer:

"You're not doing this alone."

(Back to Jay Jay's POV)

Keizer leaned slightly closer.

Keizer (quietly):

"You think this ends here?"

Jay Jay:

"It does."

Keizer:

"No."

Pause.

Keizer:

"This is just the beginning."

My grip tightened.

Jay Jay:

"You're done."

Keizer smiled again.

And that smile—

It meant something.

Something dangerous.

Then—

Sophia's voice cracked through the earpiece.

Sophia (urgent):

"Jay Jay—backup incoming. This wasn't the full team."

My heart dropped.

Jay Jay:

"How many?"

Sophia:

"…too many."

The building lights flickered.

Footsteps echoed.

More enemies.

This wasn't over.

Not even close.

I turned sharply.

Jay Jay:

"Everyone—tight formation. We move now."

Savannah:

"On you."

Amy:

"Ready."

Olivia:

"Routes open."

Mia:

"Covering."

We moved.

Fast.

Precise.

But inside—

My mind raced.

Because now—

There was a new problem.

Keifer.

If he came here—

If he saw this—

If he found out—

Everything would fall apart.

(Keifer's POV — Approaching)

The building stood in front of me.

Dark.

Suspicious.

And I knew.

She was here.

Keifer:

"…Jay."

I stepped forward.

And walked straight into the storm.

(Jay Jay's POV — Ending)

We reached the exit corridor.

Enemies closing in.

Time running out.

And then—

I felt it.

That presence.

Familiar.

Too familiar.

My heart stopped.

Jay Jay (whisper):

"…no."

Because at the end of the hallway—

Standing there—

Was him.

Keifer.

Looking straight at me.

At us.

At everything.

And in that moment—

The secret—

Was shattered.
