Chapter 16 - He-who-must-not-be-named

*BANG*

A diary flew across the empty classroom.

Ron was breathing heavily, his wand pointed at the diary.

"Ron! Calm down."

Hermione grabbed his arm pushing it down.

"Let's think about it first." She said.

"I think so too."

"Yeah, that's good."

Colin and Luna chimed in.

"Hey Basil, help us."

Seeing that Ron was still agitated, Colin looked over to Basil who hadn't said anything only to find him sucking on a lollipop next to the fallen diary, staring intensely at it.

"What are you doing?"

His question drew the attention of the others, and they began looking at Basil too.

"I'm trying to figure out a way to destroy it."

He muttered, staring at the diary.

"Did you figure out how?"

Luna went beside him and prodded the diary with her wand.

"No, not yet."

Basil sighed looking at the undamaged diary, as if it had never been thrown across the room.

"Then what do we do with this thing."

Ron shouted angrily. He pointed to the diary again and blasted the diary across the room.

The diary fell onto a desk, open with writing visible on the page.

Did I do something to upset you Basil?

I am sorry for whatever I have done, but could we talk this through instead of blasting me?

"Just ignore him."

Basil closed the diary.

"The Headmaster might have a way."

Colin suggested.

"Good idea! Albus definitely has some ideas."

Just as Basil said that everyone looked at him, stunned.

They couldn't believe what they just heard. Did he just call the headmaster by his first name?

"Have some respect, don't do that again."

Hermione glared at him.

"Whatever, let's go to his office."

Basil brushed her off and pocketed the diary rushing out.

"Hey! Wait!"

Hermione rushed after him followed by the others.

They ran across the school until they arrived in front of a stone gargoyle statue standing against the wall.

"Hah...hahh...hahh."

Basil watched the others sit down and lean against the wall.

"You guys need to run more."

"How are you not tired?"

Ron was gasping on the floor and looked at Basil. He didn't even look like he sweated.

"I'm just good at running."

"Why did you stop here?"

Colin asked. He looked around but only saw an ugly gargoyle standing against the wall.

"Noticed it?"

Basil smiled.

"This is the entrance to the headmaster's office."

He tapped the gargoyle with his finger.

"Hey!"

"Stop tapping me! It's uncomfortable. "

The gargoyle suddenly yelled causing everyone to jump.

"Bloody hell!"

Ron was the loudest and shouted back.

"Warn us next time will you?"

Basil laughed at the others surprised expressions.

"Stop laughing and say the password."

The gargoyle grumbled, clearly wanting to sleep again.

"Is it lemon drop?"

"Lemon drop? Why would the password be lemon drop?"

Hermione asked skeptically.

In response Basil pointed to the gargoyle who just jumped out of the wall revealing a staircase behind him.

"Hurry up, hurry up."

The gargoyle waved them through before jumping back into the wall, covering the staircase.

Walking up the staircase they saw an oak door with a brass knocker shaped like a griffin.

Without knocking Basil opened the door. Hermione immediately stopped him and grabbed his arm.

"Are you crazy? Why aren't you knocking?"

She hissed into his ear.

"Relax, he doesn't mind."

"It's basic manners, didn't you learn this when you were younger?"

Seeing that Hermione was getting mad Luna stepped in between them.

"The door is already open, why don't we go in?"

Hermione hestitated, but seeing as anyone inside would have already known that someone was outside. She let go of Basil's arm.

Basil smiled and pushed the door open fully.

In the circular room there was a oak desk, behind it was an old wizard with bright blue eyes. It was Albus Dumbledore the headmaster of Hogwarts and the greatest wizard of the times. (I know I already introduced dumbledore but I like this better and i'm too lazy to go back and change it)

"Hello Basil, I see you have brought your friends, this time."

The others were shocked. What he said meant that Basil had already met Dumbledore before. Apart from Harry Potter, no other first year had even been near him.

"Hello Headmaster, we have something interesting."

Basil took out the diary from his pocket and placed it on the desk.

"I see.."

Dumbledore took the diary and opened it. On the first page. Tom Riddle (i just realized it says T.M.Riddle but I already did tom riddle so i'll keep it that way)

His eyes widened.

"Where did you find this?"

Seeing that he turned serious Ginny suddenly became nervous. She imagined herself being expelled for smuggling a dark artifact into Hogwarts. Fear filled her body and she slowly backed away.

Dumbledore noticed this and immediately, several possibilities flashed through his mind about how the diary had come into her possession. After a moment, he decided to ask her later, alone.

"I think the question is how do we destroy it? Or what it's purpose is."

Basil answered.

"We know that Tom Riddle was a head boy some time ago."

Ron added in.

"Tom. I know him, you all probably know him too."

"We know him?"

They were surprised. They looked at each other confused, none of them had heard that name before.

"You wouldn't know that name, he goes by a different name, one that everyone knows, everyone fears..."

"Voldemort."
