The announcer's amplified voice boomed across the Martial Arts Temple, causing the sunshade above to vibrate faintly.
The afternoon sun scorched the arena. The air was thick and heavy, like the calm before a storm.
Though the bloodstains from the preliminaries had been scrubbed clean, the faint metallic scent still lingered in the nostrils of every martial artist present.
"First match: Tien Shinhan, top disciple of the Crane School, versus the assassin resurrected from the dead—contestant Tao Pai Pai!"
A dull clang of the gong echoed as the first Quarter-Final began.
Two figures stood opposite each other on the ring.
Tien Shinhan stood shirtless, his muscles as hard as carved stone.
His stance was grounded and unshakable, like a mountain rooted into the earth itself.
His third eye narrowed slightly. There was no fear in his gaze—only cold resolve.
Across from him, Tao Pai Pai was a mockery of the word "martial artist."
Beneath his pink robe was no longer a human body, but alloy bones and intricate hydraulic systems.
Sunlight reflected off the silver-gray metal faceplate covering half his face.
His crimson cybernetic eye rotated rapidly, emitting a faint buzzing sound as it analyzed Tien Shinhan's data.
"Hehehe... my dear junior apprentice-nephew."
Tao Pai Pai's laugh echoed harshly, distorted by electronic synthesis.
"That little brat Chiaotzu... the sound of his ribs cracking was truly delightful. Do you know? The desperation in his eyes when I crushed him was like the finest stimulant."
Tien Shinhan's eye twitched.
His fists slowly clenched at his sides, knuckles cracking sharply.
"What? Do you want to kill me?" Tao Pai Pai's grin widened.
"Good! Be angry! Be hateful! Attack me with those emotions! I'll show you the perfect power that technology can bring!"
"Perfect?" Tien Shinhan's voice was terrifyingly calm.
"You call this pile of scrap metal perfect? Tao Pai Pai, you abandoned your flesh for power—and with it, the dignity of a martial artist.
You are nothing but a coward driven by fear."
"Shut up!!"
The words pierced directly into Tao Pai Pai's deepest trauma.
The humiliation of being blown apart by Goku years ago still haunted him.
"I'll tear you to pieces!!"
The stone beneath his feet shattered.
His mechanical legs launched him forward like a missile, closing the distance in an instant.
"Super Dodon Ray!!"
His wrist flipped open, revealing a dark cannon barrel.
With the shriek of spinning turbines, a highly compressed yellow beam erupted forward.
This was no ordinary Dodon Ray.
It was a fusion of Qi and high-temperature mechanical energy.
The air warped violently from the heat. The ring's surface was carved into a smoking trench.
The crowd panicked.
"Is that a cannon? Isn't that illegal?!"
"That's not martial arts—that's a weapon!"
"Run! That thing looks deadly!"
Yet Tien Shinhan moved only slightly.
Just a small shift of his body.
The beam grazed his shoulder and slammed into the retaining wall behind him.
Boom!!
A massive crater exploded into the concrete, debris flying everywhere.
"What?!" Tao Pai Pai's cybernetic eye flickered erratically.
"He dodged it? My targeting calculations were flawless!"
"Your eyes see data," Tien Shinhan said coldly through the settling dust, "but they cannot see Qi."
Before Tao Pai Pai could react, a large hand burst through the smoke and seized his mechanical left arm.
It was Tien Shinhan.
His palm, thick with calluses, locked onto the joint like an iron vice.
"You strengthened your body with machines, but you lost a martial artist's instinct."
All three of Tien Shinhan's eyes gleamed simultaneously.
"I will defeat you. I will avenge Chiaotzu."
"Let go, you traitor!!" Tao Pai Pai struggled violently.
In desperation, a high-frequency vibration blade shot from his other wrist.
The blade blurred from extreme oscillation, emitting a piercing hum as it thrust toward Tien Shinhan's throat.
"Die!!"
From the sidelines, Krillin narrowed his eyes, a faint sneer on his lips.
"Relying on weapons… he's truly fallen."
Clang!
A sharp metallic crack echoed across the arena.
Tien Shinhan caught the blade with his bare hand.
At the moment of contact, dense white Qi enveloped his palm.
The titanium alloy blade shattered into fragments.
The pieces clattered uselessly onto the ring.
"T-that's impossible!" Tao Pai Pai's electronic voice warped in panic.
"My blade is reinforced titanium alloy! A human hand can't—"
"Because your heart rusted long ago." Tien Shinhan roared.
His muscles swelled, and his Qi erupted like a tidal wave.
With a violent twist driven from his waist—
"Break!!"
Screech—snap!!
The sound of tearing metal rang out, chilling and horrific.
Sparks burst wildly.
Black oil splattered like blood.
Before tens of thousands of stunned spectators, Tien Shinhan tore Tao Pai Pai's entire mechanical left arm clean from his body.
"Aaaahhhhh—!!"
Tao Pai Pai screamed, crashing to the ground as exposed wires sparked violently.
He writhed helplessly, like a venomous snake with its fangs ripped out.
Silence fell over the arena.
No one dared breathe.
Tien Shinhan leapt high into the air.
His feet descended like falling meteors.
Boom!!!
When the smoke cleared, he stood at the center of the ring, gripping the still-twitching mechanical limb like a war god.
He looked at it with disgust.
Then he flung it off the ring.
It landed directly at the feet of the pale-faced Crane Hermit.
"Take your trash and leave this tournament." Tien Shinhan's gaze was sharp as a blade.
"If you don't leave now, next time it will be your neck."
The Crane Hermit trembled.
Faced with the overwhelming presence of his once-obedient disciple, he couldn't utter a single retort.
He hurriedly gathered Tao Pai Pai's broken body and fled the venue under waves of scornful boos.
Tien Shinhan closed his eyes.
He inhaled deeply, the salty sea breeze filling his lungs.
Chiaotzu.
I've avenged you.
