Synopsis
Not all names were written in the annals. Some were erased… because the world was not ready to remember them. Twenty-three centuries ago, two beings defied the heavens. Not with armies. With a bond. The empire recorded the war. History preserved the victory. But the truth was sealed in blood, jade, and silence. Since then, destiny has waited. For when an oath passes through death, when two souls refuse to obey time, when heaven itself hesitates… When the Dragon awakens and the Phoenix remembers, let the world fall silent… and understand. Whoever hears the echo will comprehend. Whoever comprehends it… will never again forget. The Dragon and the Phoenix is not a legend. It is a forbidden memory. 鳳凰

Chapter 1 - Author’s Note

For You,

Before there was ever a word capable of naming the world, there was already silence. Not the fleeting silence known to mortals, but one older than time itself. A suspended, motionless instant where the universe holds its breath before exhaling its first whisper. There, all that was, is, and will be remains still unawakened.

The stars remember it.

In the immense tapestry of the universe, where darkness stretches like an ocean without shores and stars burn with a light born in ages no human could ever imagine, memories never belong to a single existence. They travel from life to life, like echoes that refuse to fade, crossing the void with the persistence of a distant bell whose sound barely brushes the soul before vanishing. And even when the echo dies, it leaves something behind. An absence. A wound so faint that no name can fully contain it.

There are souls destined to find one another.

And there are souls condemned to seek each other.

The latter walk paths soaked in blood. They cross through armies that no longer remember why they began to fight. They hear steel tear through the air again and again while the earth drinks the blood of men whose names the wind will forget before the next dawn. Upon them falls the weight of every loss, slow, silent, inevitable, like snow that eventually breaks the strongest branches without ever making a sound.

Then comes the true winter.

Not the one that covers mountains.

The one that enters the heart.

The one that cracks the spirit until it believes there is nothing left to save.

And yet…

they move forward.

Always forward.

Not because they do not know pain.

But because there are pains not born to destroy.

There are pains that arrive when every lie has exhausted its strength. When the heart can no longer find where to hide what it has denied across countless lives. Only then does the wound cease to be punishment and begin to reveal what has always been there.

Fate rarely speaks in gentle words.

It prefers to speak through suffering.

And when it finally chooses to speak, it does so where all hope seems extinguished; in that final place where the body barely endures and only will continues to take one more step.

This book does not speak of love.

It speaks of what remains even when love no longer has a name.

It speaks of bonds no sword can sever.

Of threads as fine as a breath and as unyielding as fate's decree. Not even gods dare to break them. They remain hidden across the ages, crossing lives, wars, births, and farewells without ever losing their essence.

Death passes over them…

and cannot wound them.

Forgetfulness tries to claim them.

But it too fails.

Life after life, souls change faces. Years cover them with other names, other bodies, other destinies. They change as a forest changes with the unceasing passage of seasons: sometimes shedding its leaves... sometimes dropping its leaves; sometimes enduring endless rains or winds that tear through mountains. Yet beneath all those transformations, something always remains that can never disappear.

Perhaps that is why no existence is complete on its own. Each carries fragments of the previous one, like a broken mirror unable to return a whole reflection. What seems unknown today was not always so. What hurts today may have already hurt long before being born.

There comes a moment—because it always comes—when the heart recognizes what memory has forgotten.

And when it happens…

no punishment retains enough strength to conceal the truth.

There are certainties that do not break through violently.

They simply… remain.

With the calm of mountains.

With the patience of water.

Until all resistance eventually yields.

If in this world of dust and ash, fate chooses to deny them reunion; if each step once more separates them when it seemed to lead them toward one another; if every farewell is born only an instant after having met, the Celestial Weavers will continue guarding the thread that binds their lives.

They know secrets mortals will never truly comprehend.

Unmoved by mortal sorrow.

They do not argue with fate.

They wait.

That is enough.

For heaven does not measure time as men do. It watches it pass as a river watches the fall of a single leaf.

While the celestial looms continue to move, each thread responds to the movement of another. None exists alone. None is ever truly lost. From afar, their murmur is barely perceptible. Up close, it feels like the very heartbeat of the universe.

As though each thread preserved the memory of a promise never fulfilled.

As though farewells continued to live long after being spoken.

As though some oaths refused to die, even when those who made them have long vanished from the world.

And so it will continue…

until the Ninth Heaven yields.

Until even that which seemed eternal understands that there are wills impossible to bend.

Then the gates will open again.

Not with thunder.

With the serenity of one who always knew that day would come.

An ancient light will descend upon all that has been wounded.

It will not be a light that punishes.

Nor one that devours.

It will be a light that absolves.

Guilt will lose its weight.

Suffering will finally find a place to rest.

And both will ascend.

Not as two beings finally reunited.

But as two flames that always belonged to the same fire.

In the vastness of the night, beneath the same sky that once forced us onto different paths, when the wind barely brushes the skin and shadows stretch across the earth like memories that refuse to fade, I am still searching for you.

In every heartbeat.

In every breath lost to the darkness.

In every new life fate insists on granting us.

Because even if the universe seems silent, I want to believe it is also waiting.

That it holds its breath.

That it watches.

And that, this time…

at last…

it will be enough.
