​"Were his lips always this succulent?" Cyrus whispered.

​My body coiled with mortification, quivering as I raised my leaden head off his chest to look at him. The easy smirk splitting his lips proved it had fully sank in—that had not been some weird thought I'd kept to myself. I had spoken the words out loud.

​I tried to scramble off him, but his arm wound around my back, refusing to let go. His mirth-filled eyes bore into my heated soul, my face going molten with embarrassment. I looked away, unable to take the teasing, my entire being hyper-aware of the proximity between us.

​I had lingered for too long. It had been all my fault. The moment I didn't feel like I was burning from the inside out, I should have moved. Should have demanded explanations. Should have done anything but fall asleep on top of him like he was some sort of—

​I pushed against his chest harder, panic finally overriding my embarrassment.
