Sarah froze for half a second outside the CEO's office before finally gathering the courage to step inside.
Jayden only lifted his gaze briefly when she entered.
The movement was so subtle that anyone else might have missed it, but Sarah noticed. His eyes flickered toward her for a moment before dropping back to the phone resting on his desk. The glow of the screen reflected faintly against his sharp features as he finished reading a message.
A message from Keith. The atmosphere in the room felt strangely heavy.
"Sir, did you call for me?" Sarah asked cautiously as she stepped closer. "I'm sorry. I just checked my phone."
She immediately apologized before he could say anything. The last thing she wanted was to upset Jayden.
Lately, she had become increasingly aware of how difficult it was to predict his moods. One moment, he seemed calm and distant; the next, something sharp lurked beneath that calm, something she could never quite understand.
