Chapter 48 - Chapter 48 : The Flower That Withers in Autumn (3)

"Yolan!"

Haide immediately caught his lover's falling body in panic. Fear quickly rose up from his heart as he cradled the body of the love of his life.

A bullet had pierced straight through his chest and blood started tainting his white shirt.

Though Yolan still hung on to the last bit of his consciousness, he was slowly dying in his arms.

Anger entirely engulfed Haide's mind. Predicting the trajectory from the bullet, he located the shooter and locked his eyes with the one causing this problem.

Pulling out his gun, he aimed at Pietro on top of the containers.

He was always accurate in his aim. Yolan always praised him for his accuracy.

That's why he wouldn't miss.

Not in a crucial moment like this.

BANG!

"Tsk!"

But alas, because he was too carried away by his emotions, he missed his shot. That bastard Pietro was already on his way to run away. He knew whether him or Yolan got shot, the war would end.

Haide was about to raise his hand, using his authority to summon Pietro and killing him on the spot was easy.

"Ha-Haide…"

But the weak voice calling out to his name made Haide turn toward the man in his arms. Making him setting aside all his thoughts of killing Pietro into focusing on Yolan.

'Yeah, I can kill him later, as long as Yolan's safety is ensured first.'

"We need to get you out of here quickly! If I'm fast enough to bring you to the hospital, you might still be-"

The rapid words coming from Haide's mouth were halted when Yolan put his palm on Haide's lips. Yolan quietly shook his head, a small smile never leaving his lips.

That made Haide's heart sting like no other.

There was never a wound far more hurtful than seeing Yolan heaving for breath as he stared at him with his unfocused gaze.

"I... want to say one last thing."

Yolan raised his gaze, Haide kept silent as he brushed his cheek, urging him to continue.

"After I'm dead, don't go around asking for something weird for your wish. I know you have a wish you wanted so badly… so… take it. Make your wish come true."

A soft sigh came out from Yolan's lips, "There're… a lot of things I wanted to do with you, a possible… future plan, but I guess Uola have never planned to give me a happy ending. I kind of regret it, not being able to spend more time and share my everything with you."

The blurry eyes gazed into the horizon, "Say… can you fulfil this last selfish wish of mine?"

Haide nodded without hesitation and Yolan continued his words.

"Can you entirely make me your omega? That was a wish I have since a long time ago. I hope I can feel truly loved in this life."

Waves of gruelling pain gripped Haide's mind. It shattered his heart that Yolan's last wish was something Haide had considered from the start, something he should have had if this accursed War of Throne didn't separated them from each other.

Marking.

A sacred act done between two people, where one alpha and omega were tied to each other for life.

A wish Haide also wanted to fulfil even in his previous life.

"I'll gladly do it."

His words made Yolan smile.

Haide pulled his collar and buried his face on his omega's nape. Even with layers of pheromone blocker on his body, Haide could still recognize the familiar refreshing scent that wafted through his nose.

And he bit through his flesh – planting his own scent into the man in his arms.

It was a short fleeting moment, but to Haide, time seemed to slow down. Because he knew, after this one last moment, every possible memory, promise and hope that could have formed between them in the future would vanish into dreams.

The thought of letting Yolan go this fast made him tremble in fear.

So this is how it feels to be deeply in love with someone.

The meeting was joyful but the parting was painful – so painful it felt like his soul was being ripped apart.

"Don't cry."

The weak voice was accompanied by a soft touch to his head. Haide had known him long enough to know that whenever they were in a bad situation, Yolan would always cheer him up.

"I'm glad I've met you Haide, truly. So live on well, okay?"

A short silence, making Haide raise his face and stare at the aquamarine eyes.

Raising his hand, Yolan continued, "I love you."

Haide caught that hand, planting a kiss on his omega's lips, "I love you too, forever."

A tied vow.

Profound relationship.

The three principles of War of Throne.

The three rules of being granted a wish.

Wish fulfilments.

Before the two individuals knew it, the King's crest in their hands flickered before scattering into ash.

Their love had been proven to the Gods as hymns of heaven sang in joy.

DING! DONG!

The sky turned golden once again. Bells that rang inside everyone's mind sound majestic. The golden hologram screen flickered before vanishing.

A grand celebratory of heaven that no one had seen before was held in the sky.

Something Haide couldn't be joyful of.

"Uola truly is a bastard of a god."

He couldn't hide his mocking laugh as he gazed at his lover's face. The scriptures were true, they could break free from the crest's shackles once they proved their love.

But what else was there for him to live for?

He was still alive but his lover was dead.

His wish to find love was fulfilled, but at what cost?

"Haha… Ahahaha!"

He could only give his last laugh.

It was a retribution too huge for him to bear.

The night sky of Vienna was never one to be amazed at.

Towering skyscrapers hosting different types of human activity inside it, neon lights flashing from the street below as busy drivers were making their way toward their destination.

Gazing at it from his own towering building, Haide blankly inhaled the cigarette in his hand. Before a knock snapped him out of his thoughts.

"Haide, he's here."

A familiar voice. The door creaked open and Cassius' face immediately came to view, accompanied by Keith beside him, they pulled a man – now wounded and bruised – to present it to Haide.

"Pietro Perez, you know what sin you've made right?"

Haide walked in front of the man crouching on the floor. Anger wasn't even a word to describe his emotion right now.

"Answer me!"

BAM!

A punch flew from Haide's fist, landing directly on Pietro's face. Then a kick came follow, then another punch.

No matter how many times he did it, it never truly satisfied Haide to his core.

He had caught Pietro and his friend, the one who instigated the rebellion and the last full-on war.

After the War of Throne ended, no wish was fulfilled from Uola as their crest had vanished without a trace. So other than the government and the world's attention, they gained nothing out of the fight they had done.

And it frustrated him.

The fact that Yolan had to unnecessarily lose his life because of the bastard in front of him.

Seeing the man lying motionlessly on the floor, covered in blood, Haide clicked his tongue.

"Take him away. You're free to do whatever you want with him, just don't let him die before I told you to kill him."

"Alright."

Cassius and Keith nodded as they dragged Pietro away.

Fate was truly a bizarre thing.

Not once in his life had Haide imagined that Cassius, someone he hated in this life, and Keith, someone he hated down to his core from his previous life, could work together to hunt people down.

It's not just them either, the other black faction members all had that same determination to hunt down the one who killed their leader, and it was a level of loyalty Haide never expected from members of War of Throne.

"I should have listened to your words back then."

All his life, the only way Haide knew how to protect himself and his loved ones was by power and violence.

Trust in War of Throne, where everyone had selfish desire was never something he considered.

That's why the wish desperately wanted from Uola in this life, was power. Power to protect his loved ones, to protect Yolan, who was an important person to him.

But the wish obtained from Uola was always ugly, that's why when Yolan asked him if he wanted to join the War of Throne, Haide reacted strongly.

He wanted Yolan to stay out of War of Throne, to hide him away so he didn't have to taint his hand from blood and murder.

But Uola said otherwise.

Now he had to pay the price of living in this world alone. The world that was somehow free to know what happened during this time's War of Throne.

Everyone in this world remembered the events that happened in this war and how the members participating in it were free to talk about it without shackles from Uola.

It was something that had never happened before.

As if Uola Himself were laughing at their tragedy.

Haide raised his hand to the ceiling above. The silver ring placed on his finger glinted brightly once it touched the light.

A shared memory, a momento, a reminder of his promise with the one he loved.

"It's my birthday tomorrow, so why aren't you here with me to celebrate it?"

Haide wrapped his palm around his eyes. The metal touching his wet eyes felt cold, just like his heart right now.

"You liar."

A promise with the love of his life that was never fulfilled. The long path ahead full of loneliness.

That revelation consumed his mind.
