James Zimmers's phone had good specs. Normally, a bystander wouldn't be able to hear his calls. But Ivy Holden wasn't normal anymore. With her current hearing, all it took was a little focus to clearly make out what the person on the other end was saying.
The moment she heard Kira Walton say, "Is it that hard to humor a girl?" she understood what game they were playing. Using a romantic rumor to cover up a real scandal wasn't exactly rare in the entertainment industry. But knowing something was one thing; hearing them blatantly scheme against you was another entirely.
Just then, a waiter brought their appetizers and juice, and the brief interruption gave James Zimmers time to compose himself.
"I'm sorry, Miss Holden. That was reckless of me," James Zimmers apologized first, a sincere expression on his face.
Ivy Holden put on a show of being sweet and understanding. She nodded and said, "I was just looking out for you. I'm glad you understand."
