That sentence was so soft that I thought I misheard it. I turned my head towards him again. "What did you just say?"
"I didn't say anything," he denied decisively. "You're hallucinating just now."
Oh.
Yeah, I really thought that he said that the way I tried to get his attention and obtain his love back then as a young woman in love actually worked on him.
It'd be utterly ridiculous to think that Ray Gatlin would melt over a foolish girl in love when he could have any woman he wanted in this world.
Ray got out of the car and helped to put me on the wheelchair before pushing me to the elevator. He had been exceptionally attentive so far that I was scared he might explode at any moment. After all, I remembered how he was so nice during our boat ride on the lake before he got a call from Miles and everything turned to shit.
