Sebastian's POV
Maya stared down at her clasped hands, her knuckles white with tension. When she finally raised her head to look at me, I could see the internal battle playing out behind her eyes.
"You're right," she said, her voice barely above a whisper as she moved toward the bathroom door. "We have to find out."
I grabbed the pregnancy test from the marble countertop, scanning the straightforward instructions on the packaging. Nothing complicated about it. I extended it toward her, then took a step back toward the doorway.
"I'll give you some space," I said, assuming she'd prefer to handle this alone.
"Don't." The word shot out of her like a reflex, raw and unfiltered. "Please stay. I need you here."
The naked fear in her expression hit me like a physical blow.
"Of course I'll stay." I kept my voice steady, as though standing witness to my contract wife's pregnancy test was just another Tuesday morning routine. "I'm not going anywhere."
