Chapter 96 - Explanation

Ha-neul, the eternal beauty.

Solaris ruminated over this name for a moment or two. While Jon Smit and Arias had a conversation outside of Solaris's earshot.

I have a feeling she isn't a fan of Ha-neul.

Solaris grabbed a few more pieces of food off the table and continued to eat.

He had underestimated how hungry he was.

As he bit into a cookie, Jon Smit left the room, which was, in all likelihood, just a kitchen.

Solaris raised an eyebrow as a man walked out of the room a few moments later. As he was about to ask who the man was, he read the man's bib and then swallowed the question.

As soon as Jon Smit sat down, he began to speak.

"I'm sorry about that; Arias isn't a fan of Ha-neul. Now anyways, her location is largely unknown; however, he has reason to believe she is somewhere in the eastern reaches of Canada. Reports of her being sighted are very rare, so the most likely Rationale is that she is living in a secluded part of Canada, probably alone."

Solaris could feel a bit of vindictive glee from the last two words.

Solaris gritted his teeth harder.

This man doesn't care about anyone but himself.

Solaris held in his gripe with the man and asked instead.

"What does she look like, and what is the nature of her Extramicy, if you know, of course?"

Jon Smits, stern expression broke, slightly into a sheepish smile.

"Well, it isn't quite that easy to explain her Extramicy, and well, her looks... She is of Korean descent, with brown hair, and her eyes are bright blue. And she is always wearing a tan coat and a purple flower pin in her hair."

Solaris looked at the man, who seemed to be worried about something, as he continued to glance at the door leading to the kitchen.

This guy is really weird, and he definitely doesn't know her Extramicy... I wonder if she just didn't share it or he didn't understand it...

Solaris took a few moments to commit the description to his memory, then spoke again.

"I understand; now onto the next topic: the layers of hell. I believe you spoke of five other layers? And if that is true, how are we expected to find them- just search all of Earth?"

Solaris questioned Jon Smit, leading him to grab an egg off a plate; the egg was on a toasted English muffin, topped with some strange sauce.

Solaris hadn't seen anything like it before.

He must have been making a face that revealed this fact, because Jon Smit motioned to him, as if asking if he wanted one.

Slowly he nodded, and a plate with the strange dish on it slowly floated over to him.

Jon Smit smiled slightly as he cut into the item.

As he took a bite and swallowed, he replied to Solaris's questions.

"Yes, that is correct for the most part, though it is only a theory that five more exist; however, it is the most likely outcome. From the information you gathered about the first layer, being what did you call it... That's right, Sloth, so the theory is that there is more than that single layer, perhaps many more, that each represents a specific Class of Demon; of course, this is only a working theory, so the evidence to back it up is very, very minimal."

Jon Smit took a moment to take another bite, and Solaris did the same.

The dish was rather good; it was something that Solaris had never had before, and therefore the flavor was unique.

The savory flavor melted in his mouth, leaving a pleasant aftertaste.

As Jon Smit swallowed his bite, he began to speak again.

"Now, as for your second question, we are currently working on tools of the trade to locate the specific signature that the marks let out. It should be completed in a few days; I have the best researcher working on it now."

Jon Smit said rather casually, before taking another bite.

"This is called eggs Benedict, in case you were wondering."

Jon Smit said with a light smile playing on his lips.

His hand rolled through the air, as if giving Solaris the go-ahead to ask his next question.

Seeing the motion, Solaris swallowed his egg and opened his mouth to speak.

"On to the last question: the judge demon- just how powerful is it, and what are its abilities?"

Jon Smits, chewing slowed, and his eyes locked on the table.

A strange look made its way into his eyes as a memory surfaced in his mind.

He swallowed the food and continued to stare blankly at the table. Solaris watched this as he slurped up the final bite of his Eggs Benedict.

Jon Smit didn't speak for some time, prompting Solaris to raise an eyebrow and ask.

"Mr. Smit, is everything okay?"

Jon Smit snapped out of his daze with a jolt.

"Yes, ss-sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. The judge is beyond the comprehension that we have of Demons; it's practically a natural disaster, only on a much larger scale. We have some knowledge about it; if we were to make a rough estimate based on the prior knowledge, it most likely has six crystals and is a demon of lust, although that is newer information, thanks to you."

Jon Smit smiled, although it never reached his eyes.

"It has a strange ability to corrupt humans with what we call its sin. I find it easy to imagine as the nova of a demon, although it could be something else entirely."
