Chapter 73 - Frozen Shadows

Seeing Ezekiel heal his wound, Selen once again had to change her second plan into her third.

Incapacitate and/or restrain.

As she readied herself to move Ezekiel, he lowered his arm, and the snake that had been coiled around his arm slithered out.

The creature was red, silverish grey, and black.

After a moment, the snake coiled itself into a pile and rested on the ground.

The angel whispered to himself, then the snake shuddered and began to grow; after a moment, it was large enough to swallow Selen whole.

Well then, I suppose I'll deal with the snake, then the bird man.

Selen's vision split between the snake and the man; she watched closely as the scales slightly contracted, then the metallic snake shot forward with its titanium mouth opened wide, as if to eat her.

As soon as the snake moved, Selen angled her foot and launched herself to the right, narrowly dodging the attack.

Leaving the ice where she had launched herself, she shot a large spike upwards and into the approaching snake's maw.

Shifting her feet again, she contorted herself and then launched again, this time at the snake.

Her clawed hand grew slightly longer, and then she sliced down atop the impaled snake.

Or rather, she had hoped it was impaled; in reality, the ice spike, which had been hard enough to puncture the skin of Lieutenant-ranked demons and even a captain, had bounced right off the massive snake.

Instead of puncturing the skin, it only moved the head of the snake upwards, letting it use the momentum to carry its body around and then eventually dodge the swipe of Selen's claw.

Using the information she had just gathered, Selen landed and reassessed the snake's abilities.

Skin is too tough to cut with ice; changes size based on his will, like my claw. Possible free will.

After this understanding, Selen changed her plan once more and adapted to a different style of fighting.

Or rather, she changed from the arena to a different style.

Five minutes till night, full moon.

Selen moved her foot, then the entire arena froze. The ice rolled up the walls and stopped before the stands. Then a myriad of spikes began shooting up from the ground, one of them even throwing Ezekiel off balance and to the ground.

The man hit the ground, then, placing his hands on the ground, pushed himself up to his feet, as he did some of the skin on his palms and feet tore off due to the Frigidity of the ice.

The man didn't react; instead, his wings flapped, and he floated gracefully into the air and grabbed the light, creating strings that flowed into his palm and slowly replaced his lost skin.

The man then did the same for his feet.

Selen watched this happen as she used the new terrain to her advantage.

She was in control of this place now.

A small smile grew on her lips as she dashed through the spikes of ice, using them as both shields and weapons.

She slid across the ground using her armor and claw to maneuver the snake into a position where she had the most advantage.

She didn't need to win right this moment; she only needed to buy some time.

She needed only one more minute.

Using the spikes of ice, she began using them like a maze to tangle the snake's body up; if she couldn't do that, then she shot chunks of ice at the snake to stun its momentum.

Its metallic body was sliding across the ground almost uncontrollably, but after a moment the snake learned how to move almost as well as Selen herself could.

Thirty seconds. I've got this.

Selen slid to a stop, then cracked her neck and dismissed her claw.

Selen pointed to the sky and spoke in an unfamiliar voice; its tone and sound were that of Selen's, but the only difference was that it had emotion.

"It's a full moon; would you look at that. I won."

The angel looked up at the moon, then back down at the girl and shrugged.

Then Selen's body faded into a torrent of darkness.

The audience was stunned, and so was Solaris, even having read her blurb.

The effects of her blessing are truly incredible.

Solaris thought back to the blurb for a moment.

'Moonpoint, the strength of the moon; the moon is visible, the stronger Selen is.

Shadow manipulation: Selen is one with the shadows; Selen can grasp shadows as extensions of herself.

Moonlit Inversion: Erases her presence from perception, making her effectively invisible.

Hollow point: During a new moon, Selen is a specter. Offensive power is minimal, but her body becomes faint and intangible, allowing her to evade attacks and survive.

Lunar apex: During a full moon, Selen is one with darkness.'

He stopped thinking of it before remembering her sacrifices.

Solaris was already amazed by the four blessings, yet now he was even more impressed.

Selen's darkness began to flow around the snake, and then the skin of the snake began to be assaulted by attacks from the darkness itself; even ice was attacking it.

The once clear and blue ice shifted into a dark black ice.

The attacks that once bounced off of the snake's skin now punctured it and held it still.

Before the torrent of ice and darkness could kill the snake, its body shuddered and flowed back to the angel.

The angel looked at Selen and smiled.

Then for the first time, the Angel spoke.

"You're losing this battle."

The angel's eyes lit up with a golden hue, then the cross on his left arm slid out from his skin and into the hilt of a sword.

The angel's hand rolled over the air above the hilt, and as it did, a blade of pure light filled the space.

With a flash of light, the angel dashed at Selen, who was reformed by the Shadow she had become.

She outstretched an arm, and the shadows around her formed into a rapier of ice and shadow.

"I disagree; I can't lose with him watching."

Selen spoke as the sword of light and rapier of darkness clashed.
