Chapter 77 - Reno vs Sengoku , A Battle of Wits in the Dark

After standing up, Reno walked straight into the small house, disappearing from the sight of the hidden guards.

Several covert watchers were stationed around his residence. If he wanted to slip out without alerting them, he had to find a way to bypass them.

Back inside, Reno moved to the window and looked toward the house opposite. That was the one Monkey D. Garp had stayed in before, and its window was still open.

After observing for a while and confirming no one was inside, Reno vanished from the spot. Moving at extreme speed, he shot through the window into the opposite house.

His movement was so fast it was like teleportation, and none of the hidden guards noticed. They still thought he was inside his own house.

Reno knew all attention was focused on his residence, while the neighboring house was completely ignored. That was why he chose this route.

Moving quietly through the dark, he slipped out without alerting anyone, easily leaving the guest area and appearing over a hundred meters away before disappearing into the night.

At Marine Headquarters, inside Sengoku's office, the moment Reno stepped beyond that hundred-meter range, Sengoku's eyes flashed.

"So the brat finally made his move… Let's see what he's planning."

Although he hadn't been watching Reno directly, his Observation Haki had been covering the area outside Reno's residence. The moment Reno left that range, Sengoku detected it.

He had deliberately avoided monitoring too closely to avoid alerting him. Tonight, he had intentionally let Reno act, wanting to uncover his true objective.

Sengoku stood up, glanced in Reno's direction, and muttered, "Let's follow him and see what he's up to."

With that, he stepped out and moved at incredible speed, disappearing into the night.

Meanwhile, Reno, who had just left the guest area, suddenly felt as if someone was watching him.

He immediately released his Observation Haki to scan the surroundings, but found nothing.

That was because Sengoku had already withdrawn his Haki.

Reno hadn't been using Observation Haki earlier. In a place like Marine HQ, recklessly scanning could easily alert powerful figures. But even so, strong users could sense when they were being observed, like an instinct. That was exactly the feeling Reno had just experienced.

After checking the area and finding nothing, Reno frowned.

That feeling was too real to be an illusion. If someone had really been watching him, then his actions might already be exposed.

So… should he continue?

Sengoku, however, had no idea Reno possessed Observation Haki. In his mind, everything had gone perfectly.

After all, awakening such an ability usually required countless battles. While rare individuals were born with it, they were extremely uncommon, so Sengoku hadn't considered that possibility.

Reno stood still, thinking, while also waiting for the watcher to appear.

Minutes passed, but no one came.

After waiting a while longer, Reno began to suspect something.

If that person didn't stop him, then they were probably trying to observe his intentions.

And if that was the case, there was only one likely person in Marineford.

Sengoku.

A slight smile formed on Reno's lips.

"So you want to play, old fox? Fine… don't blame me for taking a few extra vaults."

Reno's goal tonight was only to plant spatial coordinates. Whether he was seen or not didn't matter. As long as no one stopped him, his plan was already half successful.

In fact, Sengoku watching from the shadows worked in his favor. That way, he didn't have to worry about being stopped.

Originally, Reno only planned to mark one or two vaults.

Now that he had the chance to act openly, how could that possibly be enough?

Reno only had one thought now.

Adults make choices.

Kids take everything.

What if, one day, Sengoku found out that what should have been the loss of just one or two vaults ended up turning into far greater losses for the Marines, all because of a single decision he made? He'd probably be furious to death.

Seeing that Sengoku didn't stop him, Reno didn't hesitate anymore and rushed toward the first vault at full speed.

From a high point several hundred meters away, Sengoku saw Reno move again and followed from a distance.

Even without using telekinesis, Reno's speed was already fast, and he quickly arrived near the first vault.

After observing the two guards for a moment, he suddenly rushed forward.

"Whoosh!"

"Bang! Bang!"

In an instant, Reno appeared behind them and knocked both unconscious with two clean strikes.

Taking the key from them, he ignored their bodies and quickly opened the vault, then walked inside openly.

Inside, he only glanced at the mountain of treasure before looking away without interest.

He picked up a gold coin, quickly left a spatial marker on it, and casually tossed it back.

Since coins made up most of the treasure, they were the least likely to be noticed, making them the safest choice.

After finishing, Reno wrote a few big words on the wall:

"I was here."

Then he turned and walked out.

He left those words on purpose, making the Marines think he had only come to mess around and humiliate them.

Sometimes, misdirection works better when used in reverse.

The Marines would know it was Reno, but they wouldn't know that Reno also knew he had already been exposed.

Combined with the fact that he was being confined, they would assume this was just a childish act of defiance, not realizing he had already done something inside.

After leaving the vault, Reno didn't stop and headed straight for the next one.

Since he was already exposed, there was nothing to worry about.

He moved quickly from one vault to another, repeating the same process.

All the guards were knocked out, spatial markers were placed, and the same words were left behind on every wall.

Meanwhile, Sengoku didn't follow immediately and instead entered the first vault to inspect it.

After checking, he found that nothing had been taken or touched.

Just as he was about to leave, he noticed the words on the wall.

His face darkened instantly.

Did that brat really go through all this just to humiliate the Marines?

Thinking about how Reno had been confined without reason, and considering his age, it seemed like something a rebellious child would do.

Believing he had figured out Reno's purpose, Sengoku immediately left the vault to stop him.

But because he spent time inspecting, by the time he came out, Reno had already finished the last vault.

"Ah!"

Reno had just stepped out when he saw Sengoku approaching and immediately put on an awkward expression.

"Oh, Marine uncle, good evening."

While saying that, he was thinking to himself that the old fox had finally shown up.

Sengoku looked at him with a dark face and asked,

"You ran into the vaults in the middle of the night just to leave a few words? Don't you have anything better to do?"

Reno immediately put on an angry expression.

"Who told you Marines to bully people? I didn't do anything wrong, so why are you locking me in that small house?"

Hearing this, Sengoku felt a bit awkward.

They really didn't have a proper reason to detain him. The earlier excuses were just made up.

After thinking for a moment, Sengoku said,

"I can allow you to move freely in Marineford, but you must agree to a few conditions."

"What conditions?" Reno asked.

"You're not allowed to enter restricted areas, not allowed to cause trouble in vaults, and not allowed to damage anything. Also, you must be accompanied when you go out."

Reno was delighted inside, but on the surface he just yawned.

"That's fine, but the ones following me must be female Marines. I won't feel comfortable with a bunch of men."

Sengoku didn't think much about it and agreed.

"Female Marines are fine. If there's nothing else, go back."

"Alright, see you!"

Reno turned and walked away without looking back.

Tonight, he had not only placed multiple spatial markers, but also gained the freedom to move around Marineford.

A perfect outcome.

After Reno left, Sengoku checked the vaults again.

Just like before, nothing was missing, only the words on the walls.

Seeing no other issues, he called some Marines to clean things up and returned to his office.
