The secretary opened the door and Katarina walked into a room where four women were already staring at it.
Kat had heard about the Aevari stare long before she ever met Eva. Seris described it as getting appraised by a very beautiful bank. In a group it was worse. They all did it at once, without blinking, and they held it long past the point where a normal person would have said something about the weather.
Kat ignored them and looked at the chairs instead.
There were three in front of the desk and all of them were taken. Feodora sat in the middle. On her left was an older Aevari with Eva's exact face and none of Eva's expressions. On her right was a third one who was already frowning. Eva stood over by the window. Her shoulders were stiff and she had clearly been standing there a long time.
