Chapter 28 - Chapter 27: Heart-to-Heart Talk, Part 1

As soon as the young people left the house, Amy sighed and said:

"When Ray told me about Lily, he was genuinely happy. I was afraid their relationship might hurt the girl, but I was very happy for my son. Among everyone I know, he deserves happiness the most. You might not believe me, but I'm not saying this just because I'm his mother."

"Even if the girl had left, I'd still be glad my son experienced the feeling of love. And when I saw Lily… I couldn't believe my eyes. From her gaze, it was clear she genuinely loves him."

Taking a short pause, Amy continued:

"When I realized that, my pity for the little one only grew. I knew that sooner or later, this relationship would bring her pain. Part of me even started hoping you'd forbid them from seeing each other."

"I even considered talking to her myself. But when Ray came home and said Lily wanted a child… I understood: no matter what I said, I wouldn't stop that little one."

"I love my son, but the truth is, he's not good enough for Lily. I'm curious what my son did for that girl to take such a step?"

As Rosie listened to Amy's sincere words, her gaze softened. Hearing the question, she placed her hand on Amy's and said:

"Don't worry. I know what your son did for my family. And I'm not at all surprised that my great-granddaughter is ready to go this far. After what he did, it's not surprising. But I can't tell you that story. She looks at you with respect, and I'm sure she'll tell you everything when she's ready."

"I don't know what my son did, but I think it must be something incredible. For a girl her age to be ready to bear his child… I know it'll be hard for her, especially if Ray dies. But I'll be glad if this child is born. I'll do everything to support her, because this child will become an anchor that will keep me in this world if I have to survive my son's death."

"I'm curious why you weren't against their relationship?" Amy asked with curiosity.

"Even if we were against it, that definitely wouldn't have stopped Lily," Rosie replied, smiling tenderly. "I know that little one very well, and I can say for certain: it wouldn't have stopped her."

"Her parents' death robbed her of her childhood. From that day on, I never once saw her even with a friend, let alone a boy. All she did was work and study."

"I'm eighty-four now; I don't think I have much time left. All these years, I've hoped she'd find a good guy who would take at least some of the burden off her shoulders and support her if Violet and I pass away. I hope you'll be able to care for her if the worst happens. And not leave her alone."

Hearing Rosie's sincere words, Amy said firmly:

"Don't worry. No matter what happens, I won't abandon her. Even if she and Ray ever break up, I won't leave those girls."
