Chapter 8 - Chapter 9: The Mark of the Basement

Jihan's phone had already fallen from his hand.

For a few seconds, the room was in complete silence.

Imama quickly got up and looked at Jihan's face.

"Jihan… tum theek ho?"

The phone was still lying on the floor and the call was still running.

Jihan slowly picked it up and ended the call.

Tension was clearly visible on his face.

Imama started getting worried.

"Jihan… what happened? Who was on the call?"

Jihan took a deep breath.

"It was a call from school…"

Imama looked confused.

"From school? This early?"

Jihan slowly replied,

"They said… the basement door has opened again."

Imama's face instantly turned pale.

"W-what…?"

The atmosphere in the room suddenly felt heavy.

As if someone invisible was watching them.

Imama slowly sat down on the bed.

"Jihan… everything started from the basement last night…"

Jihan nodded.

"Exactly."

Just then Jihan noticed the strange symbol on his arm.

The mark had become darker than before.

Imama noticed it too.

"This mark… it wasn't this dark last night."

Jihan tried rubbing his arm.

But the mark didn't disappear.

It felt like it had become a part of his skin.

Imama spoke slowly,

"Jihan… I think this mark is connected to the basement."

Jihan looked serious.

"I think so too."

Suddenly—

The window of the room slammed shut.

BANG!

Imama got scared and moved closer to Jihan.

"What was that?!"

Jihan looked shocked too.

He looked toward the window.

And for a moment, he felt like a shadow was standing outside.

But the next second—

No one was there.

Jihan quickly closed the curtains.

"Imama… get ready."

Imama looked confused.

"Ready? For what?"

Jihan answered in a serious tone.

"To go to school."

Imama almost shouted.

"WHAT?!"

"You want to go near the basement again?!"

Jihan looked straight into her eyes.

"Imama… if we don't go there, we will never find out what is happening."

Imama stayed silent for a few seconds.

Her heart was beating fast.

Then she said softly,

"I'm not letting you go there alone."

Jihan smiled a little.

"And I'm not leaving you alone either."

Imama blushed slightly.

Just then there was another knock on the door.

Knock… Knock…

Jihan opened the door.

It was Ahmad.

But his expression looked strange.

"Bro… did you also get a call?"

Jihan frowned.

"What do you mean?"

Ahmad said slowly,

"The school guard said something weird happened last night."

Imama looked nervous.

"What happened?"

Ahmad replied,

"The guard said he saw lights inside the basement all night."

Imama's heart almost stopped.

"Lights…?"

Ahmad nodded.

"Yes… and he also said he saw someone coming up the stairs."

The room went silent again.

Jihan asked slowly,

"Who?"

Ahmad answered in a low voice.

"He said… it was a girl."

Imama froze.

"A girl…?"

Ahmad continued,

"He couldn't see the face clearly…"

"But he said one thing for sure."

Jihan asked,

"What?"

Ahmad looked at Imama and said quietly,

"She looked exactly like Imama."

Imama's breathing stopped for a moment.

Jihan immediately held her hand.

At that moment, the strange symbol on Jihan's arm suddenly started burning.

"Ahh…!"

Jihan grabbed his arm in pain.

Imama panicked.

"Jihan! What happened?!"

The symbol on his arm began to glow with a faint red light.

And suddenly—

A strange voice echoed inside Jihan's mind.

A cold whisper.

"Come back to the basement…" 😨
