Chapter 6 - Second Chance

I headed towards the shiny blue shimmers to a dark cave. An ominous feeling bubble in my stomach, but I decided to ignore it. Walking inside, the blue shimmers started to take shape as I got closer. Soon I was looking down at a field of glowing blue mushrooms. A smile formed on my face as I knelt down to pluck a couple. As I grabbed a few mushrooms a thought occurred to me. What about these mushrooms has to do with gnomes?

Just then a dark shadow seemed to envelop the area around me. My head shakily turned to see what had cast this giant shadow. Next, I was staring at a massive 15ft tall gnome. "Holy shi…" I didn't have time to finish my sentence as his massive hand came swinging down at me.

I leapt out of the way. I stood trying to gather my bearings, when I saw the massive crater the gnome's hand left behind. I knew this was bad news, but I had no choice but to fight since the gnome was blocking the only exit out.

So I took a deep breath to center myself, and gather my magic into my hand. I vaulted towards the gnome and unleashed a star's radiance charged punch to its gut. I only heard bones crunch as my fist connected, and they weren't my opponents. The gnomes skin was so hard that it shattered my wrist. But I didn't have time to worry as a giant fist caught me mid-air, and sent me flying.

I woke up only a few seconds after my collision with the cave wall. Trying to get up, my body spasmed with pain. Along with the injuries came another bad feeling, shame. How could I find Lamia one day if I can't even beat an overgrown lawn ornament. A smile crept on my face as a new resolve burned in my eyes.

"I refuse to die today, not until I find Lamia." I say in a strained but determined voice.

With my declaration, I broke into action. Running a safe distance from the gnome, I showered it with shooting stars. They all seemed to bounce right off of his body, doing no damage. Until, I saw a shooting star hit him in the eye. He wailed in pain, and started whipping his arms around in fury. I took my time dodging, the wild swings made it easy to see coming.

While I dodged carefully, I raised my hand trying to get a clear shot at his other eye. Moving and shooting at the same time is something ill have to work on, because I'm not hitting shit. I started to get nervous, but then I saw it. The Gnome pulled his arm back for another swing, but I noticed it was rather slow. Taking advantage of the fatigued giant, I stood and aimed. Aaaahhhhh, it screamed as a shooting star hit his remaining eye.

Feeling a sense of triumph, I smiled brightly. But the Gnomes screams reminded me that he wasn't down yet. Quickly, I flew into the air and tried to escape the cave. I flew fast, a sense of relief spread through my body as I realized I was almost out.

Suddenly, I felt a feeling I can only describe as death. My mouth went dry and my legs started to shake. The magic power radiating from the Gnome made me feel like I was gonna die. Everything only got worse as his two blind eyes peered at me. I realized quick, that he spread out all that murderous magic power to sense where I was. Too bad I discerned it too late.

Once the Gnome knew my location, he dug his knuckles in the ground and charged at me like a bloodthirsty ape. He swung down faster than I could see coming, and I was crushed right into the stone floor. Spitting up blood, I painstakingly scrambled to my feet, trying to catch my breath. Which quickly caught in my throat as I saw the gnome, readying an attack to finish me off. When I saw his raised hand, it almost looked like it had slowed down. The very moment it started its descent toward me, I could actually see it coming where before it would have been a blur. If that wasn't weird enough I could even see flashes of purple in my vision.

Once the attack got close enough I knew I couldn't afford to take it, but my body was too injured to move. So I raised my right hand, and blasted a shooting star so powerful that it shot my body out of the way.

My body tumbled to the ground, shooting pain through my battered body. When I tried to get up, I couldn't get to my feet so I slumped sitting up straight, my back against a boulder. Through hazy vision I could see the gnome, waving his arms around and screaming at the top of its lungs. The gnome is going berserk, but I can still feel its focus on me.

I think I might die here. I'm surprisingly unafraid, but that only makes me sad. I have a life because Lamia saved it and I seem to not even value it. I felt a tear run down my face. Look at me, I was ready to give up just because of a few bruises.

"YOU WONT TAKE MY SECOND CHANCE!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.

In return, the gnome let out a roar that shook the ground. It was only then that I realized, there was always a way to beat this big dumbass.

I couldn't help but start cracking up, "hahahaha! Moss, you're such an idiot."

The gnome charged at me, obviously taking my laugh as some sort of taunt. As I saw it coming I smiled. It roared and snarled, running at me on all fours. All I did was raise my hand, and wait.

Once it got close enough, I aimed for its mouth. Then I shot what seemed to be a shooting star at him. He had been shot multiple times with them so he hardly registered it as dangerous. So he ignored, all up until it hit the back of his throat. Then BOOM "Super Nova, Dickhead." the explosion worked better than I thought. The Gnome was writhing in pain on the ground, as smoke came out of its mouth. Trying to capitalize on the moment, I painfully stood up and slowly limped to the groaning Gnome.

I looked down at him and raised my hand. With a smile I said "Thanks for the battle, I kinda needed it." Then I let off 2 more Super Nova aimed at his mouth.

Exiting the cave I was a broken mess. The only good part about being in so much pain was that It hurt worse than the cold. My magic power was depleted so I couldn't even radiate some warmth. Every limping step was hell. I looked up at the top of the cavern and I let out an exasperated breath.

"May…maybe if I just took a nap here….it would…." My vision started to darken as my body gave out. Until all I saw was darkness.

Then I felt something warm and I could hear voices I think, they sounded worried.

I opened my eyes as best I could, and I saw "Cana?" then it all faded to black once again.
