By the time it was morning, Eve could not feel her back anymore. The words 'sore' seemed an understatement compared to how she felt.
All she could remember was waking up at intervals to trickle some more medicine down his throat anytime he convulsed.
But toward dawn, he had grown calmer, so she had finally allowed herself to sleep.
But, for how long?
The sun was shining brightly outside…
God, she could not be found in his room in such a state of dress. Despite her good intentions, what excuse would she give?
She slid from the bed after checking his temperature one last time.
Eve picked up her blanket and the things she had brought with her and dashed out of his room.
It was a good thing servants were forbidden from entering his chambers…
And that meant their shared hallway would always be empty.
She tiptoed to her room and slipped in quietly. If she wasn't mistaken, she smelled Candace's perfume lingering in the air.
Had she come looking for her?
Eve paled.
