She was the last person to arrive at the dinner table. Surprisingly, her mother was already seated beside Theodore, chattering away about something while he listened attentively.
And her father sat at the head of the table as usual, his eyes moving to her as she entered.
"Good evening." She said, taking her seat.
Her mother smiled at her.
"That look has finally left your face." Her mother said lightly, beckoning for the servants to begin serving not that they were complete.
Did she have to say that here?
When a bowl of duck soup was placed in front of her, she immediately realised that she had no appetite.
"Is the food not to your liking, dear?" Her mother asked.
She glanced up at her, then at the man beside her.
Their eyes met across the table. He was dressed differently for dinner, and his hair was combed backwards, but not slicked the way it always was.
