Chapter 16 - Chapter 16- Assassin In The Dark

The ruined chapel had become a fortress alive with shadows. Tendrils writhing, beasts prowling, and the floor black with creatures that moved as one. Gabriel stood at the center, silver eyes glowing faintly, Nyx looming beside him. His army of shadows had grown stronger, smarter, and faster with each battle, feeding on the pain from Alex's relentless fight in Hell.

Gabriel's senses suddenly sharpened.

Movement. Silent, calculated, deliberate.

He didn't need to look—the shadows reacted instantly, stretching and shifting like water around him.

From the darkness of the chapel's broken windows and hidden doorways, figures appeared: assassins sent from Hell. Their weapons glimmered with a deadly energy, eyes glowing like coals in the dark. They were fast, deadly, and countless.

Gabriel tilted his head, a faint smile forming.

"Visitors," he whispered. "And just in time. I was hoping for a real test."

Nyx growled low, a vibration that echoed through the chapel. The shadow army shifted instantly, forming walls of black, spiked serpents and wolves with razor teeth. Each shadow moved in perfect synchronization, anticipating every step the assassins took.

The assassins spread out, trying to flank him.

Gabriel raised a hand.

"Come closer," he said calmly. "I want to feel how well my army fights."

The shadows obeyed, surging forward like a living tide. Wolves lunged at the first wave, serpents coiled to strike anyone trying to leap over the spikes, and jagged, humanoid shadow figures intercepted assassins attempting to dart behind cover.

Gabriel felt the surge of pain from Alex again—the sheer intensity of the fight in Hell crashing into him. But this time, he welcomed it. He let it flow through him, into the shadows, into Nyx.

The assassins' attacks were relentless. Energy blades cut through the air, arcane spells lit up the chapel, and explosions of dark force rocked the room. Yet every strike was absorbed, countered, or redirected by Gabriel's army. Every attempt to pierce the shadows failed.

Gabriel stepped forward, silver eyes gleaming.

"You fight well," he said softly. "But the shadows learn… and they never forget."

He extended a hand toward one assassin trying to escape. The shadows surged, forming a massive, spiked wall that forced the target back. Another shadow wolf leapt, fangs sinking into the assassin's shoulder, holding him in place without killing—yet.

Gabriel's voice grew colder.

"Each of you is a lesson. Every strike, every pain you try to give me… will turn against you."

The assassins realized too late—they were no longer attacking Gabriel. They were fighting his army, and his army was evolving mid-battle, responding to every tactic, anticipating every move.

Nyx lunged at the lead assassin, knocking him to the ground, while shadow serpents wrapped around the rest, pinning them in place. Gabriel's silver eyes flicked across the battlefield, watching. Calculating. Commanding.

"You think you came to kill me," he whispered. "But really… you came to make me stronger."

The shadows pressed closer. Their movements were fluid, synchronized, and merciless. The assassins screamed as they were forced to the ground, overpowered by creatures that seemed alive—creatures born from pain, suffering, and vengeance.

Gabriel felt every strike Alex endured in Hell, feeding him energy, focus, and control.

"This is only the beginning," he said softly. "Pain creates power… and I am the proof."

The assassins lay defeated, some unconscious, others bound by shadows so tight even their weapons were useless. Nyx growled, standing guard, eyes fixed on Gabriel.

Gabriel looked at his growing army of shadows, at the chapel now alive with dark power, and whispered:

"Soon… I will no longer fight just for survival. I will fight to conquer. And when that day comes… not even Hell will stop me."

Outside, the wind moaned through the broken chapel, carrying a whisper of what was to come. A storm of shadows had awakened—and nothing would ever be the same.d
