The ruined chapel had long since become more than a building—it was a fortress of living darkness. Shadows twisted and writhed across every surface, forming creatures, spikes, and tendrils that obeyed Gabriel's every thought. Nyx stood beside him, a monstrous silhouette of teeth and claws, eyes glimmering silver as it prowled the perimeter.
Gabriel's silver eyes scanned the horizon. The assassins he had defeated earlier lay bound and unconscious, a grim reminder of his growing power. But the ruined walls of the chapel could no longer contain him.
He stepped forward, and the shadows moved with him, flowing over the broken stone like liquid night.
"Time to see what happens… when the darkness leaves the walls," he whispered, voice cold.
The shadows responded instantly. Tendrils stretched past the broken windows and collapsed doorways, crawling over the surrounding ruins, extending into the forest outside. Small shadow wolves and serpentine creatures leapt over the ground, disappearing into the trees, scouting, hunting, and claiming territory.
Nyx growled and followed them, moving like a phantom through the night.
Gabriel's silver eyes glimmered with satisfaction. Pain from Alex's battles surged through him again, stronger than ever, and he allowed it to flow freely into the shadows. Each flicker of agony from Alex made the darkness stretch farther, stronger, faster.
He lifted a hand and whispered a command.
"Claim it all. Every inch… every sound… every movement. Make it mine."
The shadows surged outward like a tide of living night, crawling over the forest, the crumbling village nearby, and even into the rivers that reflected the pale moonlight. Birds scattered, and animals howled in terror as the darkness spread.
Gabriel smiled faintly, silver eyes glinting in the moonlight.
"Let the world feel the first tremors of my power."
From the edge of the forest, a group of human soldiers approached, drawn by rumors of unnatural happenings. Their armor clinked nervously as they scanned the darkness. But as they stepped closer, shadow tendrils shot from the ground, wrapping around trees, creating walls of black spikes, cutting off their path.
Gabriel's voice echoed softly, almost casually:
"You came to see what's happening here… but this… is just a warning."
Nyx leapt forward, a blur of claws and teeth. Shadow wolves spread across the battlefield, blocking any retreat. The forest became a maze of darkness, each step controlled, monitored, and lethal.
Gabriel felt the pain from Alex's battle with Azrael surge through him once more—he could feel every strike, every wound, every scream. It was no longer unbearable. It was fuel.
He extended his arms, letting the shadows evolve again. Some took monstrous forms with wings and claws, others became long serpentine beasts, others humanoid soldiers armed with jagged, shadowy blades.
"Good," he whispered. "The pain… it teaches. The shadows… they learn. And soon, nothing will be beyond our reach."
The soldiers screamed as shadows closed in, blocking the moonlight. Gabriel stepped out into the night, standing tall in the middle of the spreading darkness, Nyx at his side. The ruined chapel loomed behind him, a fortress now only a fraction of the territory under his command.
Gabriel's silver eyes gleamed with cold resolve.
"Lucifer cursed me to suffer. Alex fights for power in Hell… and I… I fight for freedom on Earth."
The shadows surged again, expanding beyond the forest, touching the edge of the nearby village. Every creature, every living thing that sensed them trembled.
"And when the world trembles beneath me… Hell will take notice. And then… the real war begins."
Nyx howled, the sound echoing like thunder, as the shadows flowed outward like an unstoppable tide. Gabriel's army had left the chapel. The storm of darkness had begun.
And somewhere far away in Hell, Alex felt it—a pull, a whisper of power emanating from Earth. The bond between them tightened, stronger than ever. Pain had become their connection, but Gabriel was no longer just a victim. He was a force, and the first taste of his true reach had begun.
