Chapter 41 - The Dead World

24:59

24:58

"…So that's it."

No instructions.

No help.

Just time.

His steps echoed through the ruin.

But this wasn't simple destruction.

The ground was split open like torn flesh.

Weird metal half-melted into asphalt.

Buildings crushed inward as if something massive had pressed down from the sky and never lifted.

Not ruined.

Ended.

Jin's eyes flicked upward.

A sun.

Dim.

Fading.

And beside it, another light.

Too close.

Too still.

A moon.

But not anything natural.

"…This is real."

A dead world.

Not simulated.

Not fake.

Something that had lived and ended.

He turned sharply into a broken structure.

Half a wall.

Half a ceiling.

Darkness pooled inside.

His steps slowed.

Then stopped.

Silence.

Complete silence.

No wind.

No dust.

Nothing.

But his skin tightened.

That feeling didn't leave.

Not gone.

Every direction felt wrong.

Like eyes.

Everywhere.

[Time Remaining: 23:31]

His gaze locked onto it.

23:31

Blink.

19:02

His breath hitched slightly.

"Huh…"

Blink.

23:30

23:29

23:28

A sound.

Soft.

Above.

Too soft.

Jin's head tilted slowly upward.

A shadow shifted where nothing should exist.

His body moved before thought.

CRASH.

The wall exploded inward.

Stone tore apart.

Dust flooded the space.

Jin slid back instantly, low and silent, eyes cutting through the dust.

Silence.

For a beat.

Two.

Nothing.

Then a shape stepped forward.

Slow.

Unhurried.

The creature.

Standing still.

The smile wider now.

Then it laughed.

Low. Broken.

Like something forcing sound through a shape that didn't understand it.

Jin's gaze dropped to its hand.

A sword.

Rust-covered. Dark. Edges uneven.

But wrong.

Sharp in a way that didn't match its decay.

The creature tilted its head.

The smile stretched further.

Then it moved.

Not forward.

It threw the sword past him.

The blade slammed into the ground behind Jin.

Metal grinding deep into stone.

Silence.

Dust drifted slowly.

The creature didn't move.

Didn't attack.

Just watched.

Waiting.

Playing.

Jin's jaw tightened.

"…You're not even trying."

Its head tilted the other way.

A heavy step.

Then nothing.

Gone.

Jin's eyes snapped left.

Nothing.

Right.

Nothing.

Above.

A shape—

Gone.

"…It's not chasing."

A crack sounded behind him.

He moved instantly.

The ground split where he had been.

Clean.

Effortless.

No attack seen.

No motion.

Only result.

Jin ran.

Fast.

"If I fight… I die."
