Chapter 7 - The Alpha’s Claim

The forest was silent.

Too silent.

Even the river seemed to pause, as if holding its breath.

Lia stood at the cliff edge, still reeling from the mate bond awakening. Golden light faintly shimmered around her hands, evidence of her magic now intertwined with Kael's presence.

She had felt it the bond. The pull. The possessiveness.

And for the first time in years, fear wasn't the only thing fluttering in her chest.

Behind her, Kael's footsteps were deliberate. Heavy. Every step carried the weight of the Alpha, the predator, and now… the mate.

"You can't leave me again," he said, voice low, a growl hidden beneath the calm tone.

"I… I have to," Lia whispered. "If they find me here, your pack"

"You?" Kael cut her off sharply, his golden eyes flashing like molten gold. "It's never about me. It's about you. And this bond. You belong to me."

The words sent a shiver down her spine. Possessive. Absolute. Terrifying.

She stepped back instinctively. "No Kael, it's not like that. I'm not yours. I..."

"You are," he said, his voice dropping even lower. "And the wolf knows it. My wolf knows it. Your magic knows it. Your heartbeat, your scent, your soul…" His fingers brushed her chin, lifting her gaze to meet his. "…everything is mine."

Lia's pulse accelerated. She tried to summon her magic, a faint shimmering shield, but Kael was too close. He didn't need eyes or ears; his bond with her let him sense the light pulsing in her veins. Every shimmer of fairy energy betrayed her location and intent.

"You're hiding from me again," Kael murmured, almost gently now, though there was a dangerous edge to his tone. "I've waited too long. You think you can protect me by running, but that ends tonight."

The wind shifted, stirring the leaves. For the first time, the pack noticed the change in Kael. His presence wasn't just commanding it was magnetic, terrifying, and primal. Every wolf instinctively backed away, giving him space. Even Rowan, who had grown used to his Alpha's moods, swallowed nervously.

Lia spun around, searching for escape. But it was useless. Every path she took, Kael anticipated it. Her magic flickered with desperation roots, leaves, illusions but he moved like a shadow, faster than thought, closer with each heartbeat.

Finally, she stumbled against a tree, exhausted. Her wings once hidden under human guise flickered faintly, unable to hide the truth.

Kael emerged from the shadows, his golden eyes piercing through the illusions. He stopped inches from her, and the forest seemed to shrink around them.

"I'm done waiting," he said softly. Then he did something that made her stomach drop he leaned closer and pressed his forehead against hers.

The contact wasn't just physical. It was magnetic. It was binding. His mate-bond surged, and Lia felt it like a tide crashing against her. Every instinct screamed to resist. Every heartbeat screamed that she belonged to him.

And yet… she felt it too.

Mine.

Her magic intertwined with his energy, their bond pulsing through the forest. Lia's golden light flared around them, visible to the wolves, yet she didn't care. Not now. Not when he was here.

Kael's lips brushed hers not a kiss, but a claim. Fierce. Possessive. Absolute.

"You're mine," he whispered again, this time with finality. "No one will take you. Not the hunters. Not the Fairy Court. Not anyone."

Lia gasped, struggling against the intensity of the bond. "Kael… it's too dangerous. If they come"

"They will come," he admitted calmly. "And we will be ready. Together."

The forest held its breath as the mate bond anchored itself fully. Energy shimmered between them like fire and moonlight intertwined.

Kael pulled back just slightly, resting his forehead against hers. For the first time in years, there was no distance between them physically, magically, or emotionally.

And Lia knew this wasn't just protection. This wasn't just obsession.

It was love.

Dark. Dangerous. Absolute.

And inevitable.

Outside the clearing, in the shadows of the forest, faint moonlight glimmered on sharp steel.

The Fairy Court had sent reinforcements.

But Kael didn't flinch.

He held his mate in his arms.

And he would fight the entire world if they tried to take her.

The hunt had ended.

The Alpha had claimed his mate.
