ONE PIECE: MULTIVERSE BUCCANEER
Volume 1: Dawn of the Star Pirates
Arc: The Celestial Awakening
Chapter 6: Shadow Clones and the Straw Hat Rescue
The Astro Sunny cut through the debris field like a blade through silk.
Blue thrusters left glowing trails in the violet-tinted sky. Wreckage of Celestial drones and fallen sky-island fragments drifted past in slow, lazy spirals. The air still carried the sharp ozone tang of entropy lances and the faint metallic bite of ruined rune-cores.
Kai stood near the port railing—back straight, hands loose at his sides, expression calm as still water. Water from his earlier dip had mostly dried; only his jacket and boots remained damp. The Straw Hats moved around him with practiced chaos: Franky barking orders at repair drones, Usopp calibrating his rail-cannon, Nami shouting coordinates to Jinbe at the helm.
Inside Kai's mind, the System remained utterly silent except for two persistent panels:
[Hidden Quest: Earn Straw Hat Trust – Phase 1]
[Time remaining: 71 hours 12 minutes]
[Trust progress: 45%]
[New Quest Unlocked: Shadow Clones and the Straw Hat Rescue]
[Objective: Use Shadow Clone Technique to assist in rescuing stranded sky-islanders visible on the drifting fragment 300 meters starboard. Do not allow any clone to be seen by crew in a way that suggests unnatural origin. Contribute without drawing suspicion.]
[Reward: +500 System Points | Shadow Clone Technique proficiency +10% | Trust progress boost]
[Failure Condition: Any crew member witnesses clone manifestation without plausible cover → concealment breach logged]
Kai's eyes flicked starboard.
A large chunk of cloud-stone—easily the size of a small house—was drifting parallel to them, rotating slowly. On its fractured surface clung six survivors: three adults, two teenagers, one elderly woman. They waved frantically, voices lost to the wind. The fragment was losing altitude fast; in minutes it would hit the sea and break apart.
Kai didn't hesitate.
He moved—quiet, purposeful—toward the railing nearest the fragment. Nami noticed.
"Kai? Where are you going?"
"People over there," he said simply, pointing. "They won't make it."
Luffy's head snapped around. "People?! We gotta save 'em!"
Jinbe adjusted course without a word. The Sunny banked gently.
Kai leaned over the railing, calculating distance and timing. Too far for a normal jump. Too risky to draw attention with anything flashy.
He waited until the crew's attention shifted—Luffy bouncing toward the bow, Usopp aiming his cannon at distant drones, Zoro sharpening blades.
Then, with his back to the main deck and body angled to block line of sight, he brought his palms together in a single, fluid motion—seal hidden inside the natural movement of steadying himself against the rail.
He whispered the words under his breath, barely a breath.
"Shadow Clone Technique."
No dramatic burst of smoke. No white cloud. No sound at all.
Three identical copies of Kai appeared directly behind him—silent, seamless, as though they had always been standing there. The System suppressed every visual and auditory cue perfectly.
The clones didn't hesitate.
One leapt off the railing in a clean arc—Haki-hardened legs propelling him across the gap. He landed lightly on the fragment, immediately helping the elderly woman to her feet and guiding her toward the sturdiest section.
The second clone followed a heartbeat later, scooping up one of the teenagers and leaping back toward the Sunny with powerful kicks across the air. Observation Haki let him read the wind currents; he landed on deck without a sound, set the teenager down gently, and vanished the instant the boy's feet touched wood.
The third clone moved in tandem with the first—carrying the second teenager and one adult, making the return trip in two precise jumps. Again—silent landing, instant disappearance.
The real Kai never moved from the railing. He simply watched, arms crossed, as if he had merely observed the rescue instead of orchestrating it.
By the time the crew noticed anything, the first clone was already leaping back with the last two adults. He deposited them on deck, gave a small nod to the real Kai, and vanished without a flicker.
Total time elapsed: eleven seconds.
Luffy spun around, eyes wide. "Whoa! They're here! We got 'em!"
Chopper rushed forward in Heavy Point, already checking the survivors for injuries. "They're okay! Just scared and cold!"
Nami stared at the newcomers, then at Kai. "How did they… get here so fast? I didn't even see anyone jump."
Kai shrugged—small, casual. "Wind was with them. They jumped at the right moment."
Zoro raised an eyebrow. "You didn't move."
"I was spotting the path," Kai said evenly. "Told them when to jump."
It was a plausible lie. The survivors were too shaken to contradict it. They simply thanked everyone profusely, tears in their eyes.
Luffy laughed and slapped Kai on the back again. "You're really good at this! Spotting and saving people! Super strong!"
Kai gave a small nod. "Just doing what I can."
Silent notification—text only, no fanfare:
[Quest: Shadow Clones and the Straw Hat Rescue – COMPLETE]
[All objectives achieved without concealment breach]
[Rewards Distributed (Concealed Integration)]
• +500 System Points
• Shadow Clone Technique proficiency +10% (current: 20%)
• Trust progress boost +15% (total: 60%)
Kai exhaled through his nose—barely noticeable.
The Sunny pulled away from the fragment. The survivors huddled near Chopper, wrapped in blankets Sanji had somehow already produced. The crew returned to stations.
Kai stayed at the railing a moment longer.
The violet blockade in the distance had grown thicker—more dreadnoughts arriving, forming a curved wall across the shattered Red Line. Whatever the Celestials were doing, they weren't retreating.
Rick's voice drifted from the galley doorway—he had already claimed a corner workbench and was tinkering with something that sparked green.
"Kid. You're too calm. Most people would be shaking after falling out of the sky twice. What's your deal?"
Kai turned slightly. "I've fallen before."
Rick snorted. "Liar. But I like liars. They're honest about something."
He disappeared back inside.
Kai looked back at the blockade.
A new notification appeared—small, private.
[New Quest Chain Teaser Unlocked: Dimensional Rift Compass]
[Prerequisite: Complete current trust phase]
[Objective pending…]
He kept his face blank.
Three days left.
One rescue down.
And still no one knew what he really carried.
The Sunny's thrusters flared brighter.
The stars above the Galactic Line burned cold and bright.
Kai stayed quiet.
He had work to do.
And he would do it without a single unnecessary word.
To be continued…
