Ye Qiuyu immediately called Lin Wu after leaving Chang Mo.
"Rong Ci joined Chang Mo?"
"Yes," Ye Qiuyu replied, though he found it strange. "You didn't know about this?"
Hadn't Rong Ci squeezed him out just to get into Chang Mo herself?
"I didn't."
Lin Wu had assumed Yu Moxun refused to hire her simply because he wanted to vent his frustration on Rong Ci's behalf.
If Rong Ci had gone to Chang Mo, did that mean she had already left Feng's Group?
Ye Qiuyu froze for a moment. "Then what about the 'personal reasons' you mentioned before?"
Lin Wu didn't want to elaborate. "Just some personal grievances."
"But"
"What is it?"
Ye Qiuyu realized he had misunderstood; his departure had nothing to do with Lin Wu.
Thinking of this, he couldn't help but ask, "How is Rong Ci's ability? I heard she hasn't even passed her doctoral exams yet. She—"
"It's not that she hasn't passed them; she only has an undergraduate degree. She never even attended graduate school."
"Wait, really?"
"Yes."
As she spoke, Lin Wu's tone turned cold.
She hadn't expected Rong Ci to be willing to leave Feng's Group. What she expected even less was that after leaving, Rong Ci wouldn't even think about further studies. Instead, she had relied on the back door to get into another company...
One had to admit, the woman truly had no vision or breadth of mind.
Ye Qiuyu asked, "Lin, what are your plans now?"
"I have an official racing competition coming up soon. I need to spend a lot of time practicing, so I'll consider work again in a while."
"Oh, I see..."
Ye Qiuyu knew Lin Wu was good at everything. Sometimes he was puzzled with so many extracurricular activities, how did she not lose her professional knowledge? But then again, Lin Wu was so outstanding that he felt she was simply different from everyone else. He believed that if she dared to do it, she must be confident.
Meanwhile, at Feng's Group.
Feng Tingshen flipped through his documents without looking up. "Have someone brew a cup of coffee," he told Cheng Yuan.
"Yes, sir."
This was the first time Xu Xuena had personally brewed coffee for Feng Tingshen, and she was both excited and nervous. She followed the steps Rong Ci had taught her with meticulous care. Once the coffee was ready, Cheng Yuan brought it over to Feng Tingshen.
Feng Tingshen set down his documents and stirred the coffee gently. As he brought the cup to his lips, he paused.
The aroma wasn't right.
He hesitated, then took a small sip. But as soon as the liquid touched his tongue, he set it back down. "Tell her to brew it again."
Cheng Yuan blinked. "Yes, sir."
When Xu Xuena received the news, she panicked. "Brew it again? Was there too much sugar, or was the taste off? I followed Rong Ci's steps exactly, and I didn't get the amount of sugar wrong. There shouldn't be a problem."
"I'm not too sure about that either," Cheng Yuan replied.
Xu Xuena had no choice but to brew another cup.
Perhaps she was too nervous this time; Feng Tingshen didn't even taste it. He just smelled it, decided it wasn't right, and set it down. He looked at Cheng Yuan and asked, "What is going on?"
"Secretary Xu might be nervous since it's her first time brewing coffee for you, so her finesse wasn't quite there..."
Feng Tingshen frowned. "Secretary Xu? Who is Secretary Xu? Where is Rong Ci?"
Cheng Yuan was stunned. "Rong Ci has already resigned from the company. Did you... not know?"
Feng Tingshen remained silent.
He truly didn't know. He had been aware that Cheng Yuan was unhappy with Rong Ci's work attitude and wanted to fire her, but—
"When did she leave?"
"Last Thursday."
"I see."
Rong Ci had left, but it was likely only for a few days. He estimated it wouldn't be long before she came running back on her own.
Cheng Yuan asked, "And the coffee..."
"Take it away. Get me a cup of warm water."
"Yes, sir."
At noon, Yu Moxun went out for a business engagement.
Rong Ci dined alone in the company cafeteria. When her colleagues from the same department saw her, they were polite but kept their distance. Rong Ci didn't mind.
After lunch, she continued with the work at hand.
By five in the evening, she went to find Su Yuquan. "I'm mostly finished. Would you like to take a look?"
"What?"
Su Yuquan didn't react at first. He looked at the content Rong Ci sent over, confused in the beginning, but as he kept reading, his eyes widened in disbelief.
"You... you finished it all?"
This was ten days' worth of work for Ye Qiuyu! She had managed to figure everything out on her own and complete it in less than a day?
"Yes," Rong Ci replied.
Su Yuquan stood there dazed, suddenly rendered speechless. He discovered that not only had she done an excellent job, but her writing also provided many new ideas for his subsequent work that he hadn't even considered!
Hearing the commotion, others gathered around. Once they understood what had happened, they were equally shocked.
Coming to his senses, Su Yuquan looked at Rong Ci with an expression of pure incredulity. "Are you... really a graduate student?"
Rong Ci paused, then spoke the truth. "I didn't go to graduate school."
"!"
How was that possible? They were a team of doctoral and graduate students from prestigious universities, and they had just been smashed by an undergraduate?
"Why didn't you go? Were there difficulties at home?"
But looking at Rong Ci, she didn't seem like someone who couldn't afford school. Besides, with professional skills like hers, would she even need to worry about tuition?
Rong Ci lowered her eyes. "No, just some personal reasons." At this, she smiled. "If there's an opportunity in the future, I'll probably consider continuing my studies."
After chatting for a bit and helping a few people resolve some work issues, it was nearly seven o'clock by the time Rong Ci left the office.
As she walked out, she found Yu Moxun standing at the door. "Clearing everyone's prejudice and earning their recognition on your very first day as expected of you."
Rong Ci laughed. "Shall I treat you to dinner?"
Yu Moxun arched an eyebrow. "What else do you think I was waiting here for?"
Rong Ci smiled and left the company with him.
Twenty minutes later, they arrived at a restaurant. As Rong Ci was walking up the steps, a child came running toward her. To avoid a collision, she stepped back, tripped, and was about to fall when Yu Moxun reached out and caught her by the waist, steadying her.
Rong Ci breathed a sigh of relief. Just as she was about to thank him, she spotted Feng Tingshen and Qi Yuming standing not far away.
They had seen her too.
Feng Tingshen stopped in his tracks. Qi Yuming's eyebrows shot up.
Rong Ci pursed her lips, withdrew her gaze, and gently pushed Yu Moxun away. Yu Moxun hadn't noticed Feng Tingshen and the other man; he asked with concern, "Did you twist your ankle?"
Rong Ci shook her head. "No."
"That's good. Let's go."
"Okay."
Rong Ci didn't look back at Feng Tingshen's group again as she followed Yu Moxun upstairs.
Seeing Rong Ci's reaction, Qi Yuming looked gobsmacked. "That was your wife, right?"
Feng Tingshen didn't say a word.
"That 'I don't see you' attitude, and acting so close to Yu Moxun... is this her newly devised husband-chasing tactic? Is the goal to make you care about her?"
Before Feng Tingshen could respond, Qi Yuming burst out laughing. "She's certainly putting a lot of thought into this."
Feng Tingshen gave no reply, simply stating coldly, "Let's go."
