Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Making Her Pay the Price

When they arrived at the private booth, Lin Wu and Feng Jingxin were already there.

Lin Wu asked, "What happened that made you all so happy?"

Qi Yuming chuckled. "Nothing much, I just ran into someone quite interesting."

After dinner, Feng Tingshen and Feng Jingxin returned home.

As soon as she stepped out of the car, Feng Jingxin ran upstairs excitedly. "Mom! Mommy!"

Hearing the commotion, Auntie Liu came out of the kitchen. "The Madam hasn't come back yet."

"Huh?" Feng Jingxin's face fell with disappointment. "Why has Mom been so busy lately?"

Grumbling, she headed upstairs.

Seeing Feng Tingshen standing still, Auntie Liu asked, "Sir?"

Feng Tingshen shook his head. "It's nothing."

Then, he went upstairs as well.

That night, Feng Tingshen discovered that Rong Ci had not returned at all.

The next morning, when Feng Jingxin woke up, she thought she would be able to eat a breakfast prepared by Rong Ci again.

Seeing that the food on the table didn't look like Rong Ci's cooking, she frowned. "Did Mom not get up to make breakfast this morning?"

"Madam isn't at home."

Feng Jingxin found it strange. "Where did Mom go if she isn't home? Did she go back to her grandmother's house again?"

"I suppose so?"

Since Rong Ci hadn't said anything, Auntie Liu didn't dare to give a definitive answer.

Feng Jingxin looked toward Feng Tingshen. "Dad..."

Feng Tingshen replied in a slow, deliberate manner, "If you want to know, call her yourself and ask."

"I'll ask her tonight then."

On the other side.

After finishing her breakfast, Rong Ci went straight to the company.

Once she arrived, Yu Moxun was about to discuss the development of a new product with her when his phone rang.

The person on the other end asked, "Has your company offended the Feng family recently?"

"What?"

Yu Moxun was stunned for a moment. He looked at Rong Ci and turned on the speakerphone.

"Someone from the Feng side wanted to cause trouble for your company, but we blocked them on our end."

Hearing this, Rong Ci froze, her fingers curling into a tight fist.

Ever since that banquet, Feng Tingshen had never come to demand an explanation for how she and Yu Moxun had "bullied" Lin Wu. She had assumed he simply didn't want to pursue the matter.

As it turned out, it wasn't that he didn't want to pursue it; he just didn't want to waste his breath on her. He was using actions to tell her that since she had touched Lin Wu, he was going to make her pay the price!

Yu Moxun also understood what was happening now.

He patted Rong Ci's hand. "Don't worry. Our company cooperates closely with the government. They can't touch us."

"Mm."

It was a blessing that things were this way.

Otherwise...

Given Feng Tingshen's strength and financial resources, even if Changmo wasn't completely destroyed to vent his anger for Lin Wu, it would have been severely crippled.

He really protected Lin Wu with a tight grip!

Yu Moxun was a bit worried and asked, "Since they can't touch Changmo, will they go after the Rong family?"

Rong Ci shook her head. "No."

With Old Madam Feng around, Feng Tingshen wouldn't easily move against the Rong family. He still had to show some respect for the old lady's face.

"That's good then..."

As she was nearing the end of her workday, Rong Ci received a call from Feng Jingxin. "Mom, when are you coming home? I'm so hungry."

"Didn't I have Auntie Liu make food for you?"

"But I want to eat the sweet and sour pork ribs you make." Since she hadn't gotten to eat the dishes she ordered last time, she craved them even more now.

Rong Ci didn't want to go over there.

She rubbed the space between her eyebrows, but before she could speak, Feng Jingxin added, "Dad went on a business trip. I'm so bored, Mom, please come back quickly."

Feng Tingshen was on a business trip?

Rong Ci paused.

She and Feng Tingshen were nearing a divorce; she could ignore him. But for Feng Jingxin, she still had a responsibility to care for her until she turned eighteen.

Thinking of this, she said, "I know. I'll be back in a while."

That night, Rong Ci made sweet and sour pork ribs for Feng Jingxin and simmered some soup.

She stayed there for the next two days.

When Friday arrived, Old Madam Rong called and asked her to come over for a meal.

Rong Ci took Feng Jingxin back to the Rong family home.

Only the old lady was at home; the others were either out at social events or still at school.

Old Madam Rong didn't know that Feng Jingxin had returned to the country yet. Seeing Rong Ci bring the girl along, she was instantly pleasantly surprised.

Feng Jingxin was quite close to Old Madam Rong and knew exactly how to make the old lady happy.

That night, Rong Ci and Feng Jingxin stayed at the Rong residence.

The next morning, Rong Ci got up early to roll out dough and wrap dumplings.

Looking at how skilled Rong Ci's movements were, the old lady remembered how she had never done a lick of housework before she got married, and she couldn't help but sigh.

Rong Ci knew what her grandmother was thinking. She smiled and said, "Cooking helps calm the mind. I quite like it."

Rong Ci's face had a bit more fullness than the last time she visited, and she wasn't as thin. This put Old Madam Rong's mind at ease.

After finishing the dumplings and chatting with the old lady for a while, Rong Ci went upstairs.

Feng Jingxin was already awake and was washing up.

Rong Ci was tidying up the pajamas the girl had changed out of when she noticed Feng Jingxin's tablet ping. It was a message from Lin Wu.

"Is Xinxin awake? Auntie is coming back this afternoon. We can have dinner together tonight, and Auntie will take you out to play tomorrow, okay?"

Rong Ci glanced at it and then withdrew her gaze, taking the pajamas to the washing machine.

By the time she returned, Feng Jingxin was already holding the tablet. Seeing Rong Ci, she tucked the tablet behind her back to prevent her mother from seeing the chat history with Lin Wu.

Rong Ci didn't expose her. She simply said, "The dumplings are ready. Go downstairs for breakfast."

Feng Jingxin jumped up from the bed happily. "It's been so long since I had Mom's dumplings! Yay!"

During breakfast, Old Madam Rong asked cheerfully, "What does Xinxin want to eat tonight? Grandmother will have someone make it for you."

Feng Jingxin knew that Old Madam Rong didn't like Lin Wu either.

Hearing the question, her dark eyes darted around as she said in a small voice, "Grandmother, Dad is coming back tonight. I want to go home for dinner..."

Old Madam Rong was a bit reluctant to let her go, as she hadn't seen Feng Jingxin in a long time. However, she knew the girl had been very clingy with Feng Tingshen over the past two years, so she didn't think much of it.

Rong Ci knew Feng Jingxin was lying, but she feigned ignorance. She placed a morsel of food into the old lady's bowl and said, "It's fine. I'll stay here to keep you company."

For a wife to stay at her maternal home when her husband returned from a business trip seemed unreasonable no matter how one looked at it.

But since Feng Tingshen treated Rong Ci poorly, Old Madam Rong had never been happy seeing Rong Ci dote on him. If Rong Ci wanted a divorce, she would agree ten thousand times over.

Therefore, hearing Rong Ci say this, Old Madam Rong smiled. "Alright. Our Little Ci is always so sensible."

Feng Jingxin had been worried about how she would find an excuse to slip away from Rong Ci to go see Lin Wu. Hearing this, she instantly breathed a sigh of relief.

When Feng Jingxin left, the old lady prepared a pile of the girl's favorite snacks. Rong Ci pushed the items back, telling her to save them for her uncle's children.

Rong Ci contacted the butler at Feng Tingshen's residence to have someone pick up the girl instead of seeing her off personally.

The old lady watched this, feeling that something was slightly off, but she didn't dwell on it.
