Damon turned away from the smoke and the supply wagons. He walked with long strides across the dusty yard. He headed straight toward his command tent.
He pushed the canvas flap aside and stepped into the cool, quiet space of his command tent. He walked around his desk and sat down in his chair. He leaned forward, resting his arms on the polished wood. He stared at the map of the capital city and the roads leading to it.
A few minutes later, the canvas flap opened quickly.
Kade walked into the command tent. The aide looked very serious. He marched to the front of the desk and bowed deeply.
"My Lord," Kade greeted him respectfully.
"I have something to report," Kade announced, his voice clear and urgent.
Damon did not look up from his maps immediately. He kept his eyes focused on the roads.
"Go ahead," Damon replied smoothly, his voice calm.
Kade stood up straight. He placed his hands behind his back.
