Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: 'Chris-tastrophe'

Sergei Vladimir.

A highly decorated former Soviet colonel, he joined Umbrella following the collapse of the Soviet Union and remained fiercely loyal to Spencer.

He once participated in the Soviet cloning program and had ten clone brothers. Furthermore, Sergei was a rare individual possessing a gene that allowed for mutant adaptation to the T-Virus.

During the early development of Umbrella's Tyrants, these ten clones were used as experimental material. It was Sergei's contribution that enabled the successful mass production of the Tyrants.

Of course, Sergei himself was a B.O.W., the most perfect host for the T-Virus, possessing the ability to manipulate the virus within his body at will.

Sanders vaguely remembered from the games that Sergei was the first to sense Wesker's treacherous tendencies. He later personally rushed to Raccoon City to transport the red queen's main core away, thwarting Wesker's plan to seize the data and files.

However, this colonel, who was incredibly loyal to Umbrella, ultimately died at Wesker's hands.

According to the system's evaluation, Sergei was undoubtedly an anomaly.

There were points to be earned.

Immediately, Sanders had the Red and White Queens closely monitor Sergei's movements while maintaining the illusion for Spencer and the Board of Directors that everything was fine in Raccoon City.

It wasn't just Umbrella investigating the disappearance of the USS squad; the Raccoon City Police Department had also entered a state of combat readiness due to Albert Wesker's 'bizarre disappearance'.

In Sanders's eyes, Wesker was a BOSS—a nuisance that needed to be dealt with as soon as possible for peace of mind.

But in the eyes of his fellow police officers, Wesker was a dedicated and responsible captain, and the leader of the Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.) Alpha Team.

S.T.A.R.S. was a special department of the police station led by the Mayor of Raccoon City and funded by Umbrella. It consisted of two squads, Alpha and Bravo, with a total of twelve members.

There were traces of crossfire in Captain Wesker's apartment; the bloodstains, shell casings, and bullets had all been cleaned up or destroyed, and the captain had been missing for an entire day.

His fate was unknown.

Coupled with the frequent 'beast' attacks in the Arklay Mountains, the entire police department was in a state of panic, and morale had dropped to an all-time low.

However, on the afternoon of June 3rd, at 14:30...

There was a reversal in the case of Wesker's disappearance.

Police Chief Irons called a meeting of all officers. During the meeting, he provided numerous pieces of 'evidence' that Wesker was working for a certain Colombian drug cartel. He concluded that Wesker might have been retaliated against by the cartel because they couldn't agree on a price.

Although most officers were skeptical of this so-called 'evidence' and the Chief's speculation, Wesker had been missing for four days, so they had no choice but to temporarily believe the Chief's words.

In fact, this 'evidence' consisted of documents and photos forged by the Red and White Queens, and Sanders had also established contact with Irons on June 1st.

Lured by money, the perverted Chief Irons—who enjoyed dissecting living people—readily agreed to work for Sanders.

It's worth mentioning that when Irons claimed Wesker was an undercover agent and a traitor, Chris immediately voiced his opposition, saying:

"Captain Wesker couldn't possibly be a traitor!"

How ironic.

In the game, these two were mortal enemies, and Wesker eventually died under Chris's 'cannon.' Now it seemed... these two were the ones with 'true love.'

After Irons announced the cessation of the investigation into Wesker's disappearance, the police department began to return to normal, continuing to maintain the security of Raccoon City.

June 5th.

According to the red queen's latest report, the company investigation team led by Sergei arrived at Rockfort Island at 10:14 Raccoon City time.

The supervisor of Rockfort Island was Alfred Ashford.

Spencer had once used some'small' tricks to kill his good friend and co-founder of Umbrella, Alexander Ashford, in order to seize absolute power over the company.

The company's board of directors were all well aware of this, but no one brought it out into the open.

The USS and the reserves were all training on Rockfort Island, and the supervisor was Alexander's'son,' Alfred. Spencer indeed had reason to suspect that Alfred was behind it.

After the 'true culprit,' Sanders, learned of this situation, he began preparing to handle the final hidden danger in Raccoon City.

...Time: June 5th, 1998, 10:44.

Location: Raccoon City Police Department, West Briefing Room (Command Room).

The briefing room wasn't large, accommodating thirty people at most.

The walls featured the classic white-and-green color scheme of a Chinese classroom, the floor tiles were in a black-and-white grid pattern, and two vending machines stood on the right side of the room.

There was a wooden lectern, a blackboard, and a soft screen for projections. To the left of the blackboard hung the American flag.

It wasn't much different from the briefing room in the Remake—very classical. In fact, the original site of the police station was the Raccoon City Downtown Museum.

At this moment.

About twenty police officers were sitting on folding chairs. Most of them were superintendents or inspectors in charge of various districts, and among them were many familiar faces.

Such as Lieutenant Marvin Branagh, the black officer who had assisted Leon and Claire.

There was Deputy Commissioner Raymond Douglas, who appeared in Resident Evil: Outbreak, as well as S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team Captain Enrico Marini, and... Chris Redfield.

The famous 'Chris-tastrophe' hadn't yet developed into the super-muscular powerhouse who could punch a boulder in Resident Evil 5; he still had a fresh-faced look.

He had a pompadour hairstyle, a standard build, and was wearing dark green combat pants and a white shirt embroidered with the S.T.A.R.S. emblem.

Given Wesker's disappearance, Chris was temporarily serving as the captain of S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team, which was why he was present in this briefing room.

Standing on the podium were Sanders and Irons.

Irons was pot-bellied, with graying hair and beard. Standing behind the lectern in a white shirt and black vest, he explained the details of the Arklay Mountains case to everyone.

Immediately after, Irons used a remote to lower the soft screen and turned on the projector to display detailed information.

As for Sanders, standing to the right behind Irons, he was still dressed in a suit and leather shoes, with some gel in his hair.

The presence of Sanders, an Umbrella director, didn't seem strange to the officers, including Chris. After all, Umbrella's reach extended into every aspect of Raccoon City.

Even half of their salaries were provided by Umbrella.

What they hadn't expected, however, was that the 'beasts' in the Arklay Mountains were actually products of Umbrella's biological experiments.

However, Irons was displaying information provided by Sanders, all of which pointed to James Marcus as the responsible party.

The blame for things like illegal experiments and causing casualties among innocent civilians was entirely shifted onto Marcus.

While everyone was focused on the slides, Sanders was secretly observing Chris.

[Anomaly detected.

Subject: Chris Redfield.]

'Chris-tastrophe, it really is you.'
