Chapter 6 - Konbini store

Class came to an end.

The bell rang sharp. Chairs scraped. Bags zipped. Students spilled out into the hallway like water from a broken dam.

Yamada stayed in his seat a second longer. Pulled out his phone.

He opened messages. Found the contact labeled "Store."

Typed quick.

"I am coming to work today."

Hit send.

Closed the app. Slid the phone into his pocket.

He looked out the window.

The courtyard was quiet now. Late afternoon sun stretched long shadows across the grass. A few girls lingered near the gates. No sign of Saki.

Yamada stood. Slinged his bag over one shoulder.

Yes, he still did the part-time job.

At the Ero Konbini. The same small 24-hour store near the old apartment he used to live in.

He didn't need the money. His family could buy the chain ten times over and not blink.

He did it to blend in.

To keep one foot in the normal world.

To remember what it felt like to be just a guy stacking shelves, ringing up cigarettes and cup ramen, listening to tired salarymen complain about their day.

Before the hospital.

Before the dungeon.

Before the quiet laugh that came out when he took control.

He walked out of the classroom. Hallway mostly empty now.

Passed the music room. Door shut. No sounds today.

Passed the stairwell where Saki had sat earlier.

He paused for half a second.

Then kept walking.

Outside the gates the black car waited. Driver already holding the back door open.

Yamada slid in.

"Store first," he said.

The driver nodded. No questions.

The car pulled away.

Yamada leaned back. Hood up. Hands in pockets.

He watched the city slide past the tinted windows.

School.

Cafeteria.

Reina's apology.

Saki's guarded eyes.

Hayato's name.

The basement waiting at home.

Tachibana probably still sore.

And now—work.

He flexed his fingers. No pain left from the casts.

A small smile touched his lips.

'Still blending in.'

'For now.'

The car turned onto the main road.

The Ero Konbini sign appeared in the distance.

Flickering neon.

Familiar.

Normal.

He got out when they arrived.

Told the driver, "Pick me up at 10."

Walked inside.

The bell above the door chimed.

Shiori looked up from behind the counter.

"Yamada-kun. You're back."

He nodded. Took the apron from the hook.

"Shift starts now."

Mao and Yui poked their heads from the stockroom.

"Yamada-kun!"

Miki waved shyly from the magazine rack she was organizing.

He tied the apron.

Grabbed a box of snacks to restock.

The store smelled like instant noodles and air freshener.

Normal.

Safe.

He started stacking shelves.

But his mind stayed half on Saki.

Half on Hayato.

Half on the basement.

He worked quiet.

Calm.

Yui walked up to him. She wore the same green apron as him, but hers looked cuter somehow. Short black hair tucked behind her ears. Big eyes looking up.

"Yamada-kun," she said softly. "Can you come with me for a bit?"

Yamada looked at her. Nodded once.

"Sure."

He set the last can down. Followed her.

She led him past the counter, past the stock shelves, to the small employee room in the back. Tiny space. A table, two chairs, a sink, lockers against the wall. Door with a sign that said "Staff Only."

They stepped inside.

Click.

Yui locked the door behind them.

Yamada raised an eyebrow.

She turned. Stepped close. Wrapped her arms around his neck.

"I missed you," she whispered.

Then she kissed him.

Soft at first. Lips pressing. Then deeper. Tongue sliding in. Small hands pulling him closer.

Yamada let her. Didn't push away.

His hands settled on her waist. Firm. Steady.

She broke the kiss. Breathing fast. Cheeks pink.

"You were gone for weeks," she said. Voice shaky. "I kept thinking about you. Every shift. Every time the bell rang and it wasn't you walking in."

Yamada looked down at her.

"I know."

Yui's fingers curled into his hoodie.

"I thought maybe you forgot about us. About me."

He shook his head once.

"Never."

She smiled. Small. Relieved.

Then she kissed him again. Hungrier this time.

Pushed him back until his back hit the lockers.

Her hands slid under his hoodie. Fingers tracing his abs. Feeling the hard lines.

She gasped against his mouth.

"You're… even more built now."

Yamada chuckled. Quiet. Low.

"Training didn't stop."

Yui's eyes sparkled.

She tugged his hoodie up. Exposed his stomach. Leaned down. Kissed along the ridges. Tongue flicking out.

Yamada exhaled slow.

Yui dropped to her knees.

Looked up at him.

"Can I…?"

He nodded.

She pulled his pants down just enough.

His cock sprang free. Already hard from the kiss.

Yui wrapped her hand around it. Stroked once. Slow.

"Still so big…"

She leaned forward. Took the head in her mouth. Tongue swirling.

Yamada's hand went to her hair. Gentle. Guiding.

She bobbed. Deeper each time. Small moans around him.

He watched her. Red eyes half-lidded.

"Good girl."

Yui hummed. Vibration made him twitch.

She pulled off. Looked up. Lips wet.

"I want you inside me. Right now."

Yamada pulled her up. Turned her around. Bent her over the small table.

Hiked her skirt. Pulled her panties to the side.

She was soaked.

He lined up. Pushed in slow.

Yui moaned. Loud. Hand over her mouth to muffle it.

"Yamada-kun… fuck…"

He thrust deep. Steady rhythm.

The table creaked.

Her hands gripped the edge.

He leaned over her. Lips at her ear.

"Quiet. Don't want Shiori hearing."

Yui whimpered.

"Harder… please…"

He gave it to her.

Faster. Deeper.

She came quick. Body shaking. Soft cry muffled against her arm.

Yamada kept going. A few more thrusts.

Then pulled out. Came on her ass. Thick ropes.

Yui panted. Stayed bent over.

Yamada grabbed a tissue from the box on the table. Wiped her clean. Gentle.

Helped her stand. Fixed her skirt. Panties back in place.

She turned. Kissed him soft.

"Thank you," she whispered.

He kissed her forehead.

"Anytime."

She smiled. Shy now.

"Shift's not over yet."

Yamada chuckled.

"Yeah. Let's get back."

They unlocked the door. Stepped out.

Shiori glanced up from the register. Didn't say anything. Just smiled a little.

Mao and Miki were restocking candy. Didn't look over.

Yamada went back to restocking the cooler. Yui returned to the register. She kept glancing at him with that small, secret smile.

Shiori was at the counter too, flipping through a magazine. Mao and Miki were in the aisles somewhere.

Yui leaned over the counter a little.

"Hey… Yamada-kun?"

He looked up.

"Remember when you first started here?"

Yamada paused. Can in hand.

Flashback.

It was his very first shift.

The store smelled the same. Instant ramen and cheap air freshener.

The old manager — Yoshihiro — was in the back office. Middle-aged. Sweaty. Always staring too long.

Yamada was stacking shelves when he heard it.

Yui's voice. Small. Uncomfortable.

"You okay, Yui?"

Yui was behind the counter. Wiping the same spot over and over. Hands shaking.

"It's fine."

"You sure?"

She stopped. Looked up.

"Why?"

Yamada looked at her eyes. Tired. Scared. The same look he'd seen in the hospital mirror.

He glanced toward the back office. Door cracked. Yoshihiro inside. Counting money. Smiling that greasy smile.

Yamada turned back to her.

"Fine."

Later that night.

Closing time.

Yoshihiro was packing his things. Box in his arms. Muttering about "stupid girls."

Smack.

The hammer came down hard on the back of his head.

Yoshihiro dropped like a sack of rice. Out cold.

Yamada stood over him. Hammer loose in his hand.

He looked at the body on the ground.

Pulled out his phone.

"Hey. I need you to get rid of someone. Yes, he's knocked out. I'll clean the place."

The butler's calm voice answered.

"On the way, Master."

Yamada dragged the body behind the dumpster. Wiped the hammer on his apron. Went back inside like nothing happened.

Next morning the "Help Wanted" sign was gone.

Yamada was the new part-timer.

The girls never asked what happened to Yoshihiro.

They just… started smiling more.

Started lingering.

Started touching his arm when they passed.

Started pulling him into the employee room.

End flashback.

Yamada set the can down.

"Yeah," he said quietly. "I remember."

Yui smiled. Soft. Grateful.

"You saved us that day. Without saying anything."

He shrugged.

"Did what needed doing."

She reached across the counter. Fingers brushed his.

"Thank you. Again."

Yamada nodded.

The store bell chimed. A customer walked in.

Normal night.

But Yui kept that smile the rest of the shift.

And Yamada kept stacking shelves.

Quiet.

Calm.

The way he always did.

The Ero Konbini stayed open.

And the relationship that started with a hammer in the alley kept growing.

One shift at a time

Later

Yamada kept restocking the energy drink cooler. One can after another. Blue labels. Red labels. Click. Click. Click.

Yui was nearby, wiping the shelf beside him. She hummed a little tune under her breath. Every few seconds her elbow brushed his arm on purpose.

He paused.

Hand still holding a can.

'Actually now that I think about it?'

He looked up at the big sign above the register.

**Ero Konbini**

The neon letters glowed pink and red. Always had.

'Why was "Ero" in the name of this konbini store?'

He turned the can slowly in his hand.

Back when he first applied, he didn't think much about it. Just needed a place to blend in. A normal job. A normal life. The name sounded like a joke or a typo. "Ero" could've been short for something innocent. Energy. Everyday. Whatever.

But after a few weeks…

The old manager used to smirk every time a girl came in late at night. The way he'd linger behind the counter. The "special discounts" he offered certain customers. The locked back room that smelled like cheap perfume and sweat.

It wasn't a typo.

The store had a reputation.

Guys knew it. Girls knew it. Late-night regulars came for more than cigarettes and onigiri.

Yamada set the can down.

Yui noticed he stopped.

"Yamada-kun?"

He glanced at her.

She tilted her head. "You okay?"

He nodded once.

"Just thinking."

She smiled. Soft.

"About yesterday?"

"About the store."

Yui's smile faltered a little. She looked around. No customers. Shiori was in the back counting change. Mao and Miki were restocking candy in aisle 3.

She stepped closer. Voice low.

"You know… why it's called Ero Konbini, right?"

Yamada met her eyes.

"Tell me."

Yui bit her lip. Looked at the floor.

"The old manager—before you… handled him—he picked the name on purpose. Said it brought in 'the right crowd.' Late-night guys. Girls who needed extra money. He let things happen here. In the employee room. In the alley. Sometimes right behind the counter when the store was empty."

She swallowed.

"That's why we were always tense. Why I looked scared that first night you asked if I was okay."

Yamada stayed quiet. Listened.

Yui continued.

"But after you… got rid of him… it stopped. No more creepy comments. No more 'special shifts.' We could just work. Just be normal."

She looked up at him. Eyes shiny.

"You changed everything. Without even trying."

Yamada looked at the neon sign again.

Pink and red.

Still glowing.

He flexed his hand.

The hammer memory flickered. Quick. Gone.

He turned back to Yui.

"Does the name bother you now?"

Yui thought about it. Then shook her head.

"Not anymore. Because you're here."

She smiled. Small. Real.

"And… it's kind of funny now. In a weird way."

Yamada let out a short breath. Almost a laugh.

"Yeah."

He picked up the next can.

Kept restocking.

Yui stayed close.

Shoulder brushing his.

The store stayed quiet.

Normal.

Safe.

The "Ero" part of the name didn't feel heavy anymore.

Not with him around.

Shift went on.

And Yamada kept stacking shelves.

One can at a time.
