Chapter 89 - Chapter 89 – The World That Remembered Her

Chapter 89 – The World That Remembered Her

"Welcome back."

The voice echoed through every world.

Not loudly.

It didn't need to be.

The words simply appeared everywhere.

In cities.

In forests.

Under oceans.

Inside abandoned ruins.

Even in places where no living creature remained.

Everywhere, the same two words were heard.

Welcome back.

Evetyl stood in the underground chamber, unable to move.

The name she had spoken still hung in the air.

Aeterna.

It felt wrong.

And yet...

It felt more familiar than Evetyl ever had.

Kai was still holding her hand.

His fingers were shaking.

"Evetyl?"

She looked at him.

"I heard it."

"What?"

"My name."

Kai frowned.

"You mean Aeterna?"

Evetyl nodded.

"That's not just a name."

"What is it?"

She looked toward the darkness above.

"I don't know."

The First Mother answered for her.

"It is what you were before you became Evetyl."

The chamber fell silent.

Aren slowly looked at their mother.

"Mother..."

She didn't respond.

Elara stepped forward.

"You knew."

The First Mother looked at her.

"I always knew."

"Then why didn't you tell us?"

"Because you were children."

Aren's expression hardened.

"We aren't children anymore."

The First Mother looked at him sadly.

"No."

"You are memories of children."

Aren froze.

Elara lowered her head.

Evetyl looked between them.

"What does that mean?"

The First Mother closed her eyes.

"It means the people you remember being..."

"...died a very long time ago."

Aren's hands tightened.

"So what are we?"

The First Mother answered quietly.

"Echoes."

Aren laughed.

It wasn't a happy laugh.

"Of course."

Elara looked at him.

"Aren."

He shook his head.

"No."

He stared at his hands.

"All this time..."

"I thought I came back."

"But I didn't."

The First Mother looked at him.

"You came back."

"Then why call us echoes?"

"Because you are not the same."

Aren looked up.

"What changed?"

The First Mother answered:

"Memory."

---

Evetyl felt something strange inside her.

Not pain.

Not power.

A presence.

Something old.

Something that had always been there.

She closed her eyes.

For a moment, she saw a vast white field.

No sky.

No ground.

No horizon.

She was standing alone.

Then someone appeared behind her.

A young woman.

She looked exactly like Evetyl.

But older.

Calmer.

And somehow...

More tired.

The woman smiled.

"You finally remembered."

Evetyl turned.

"Who are you?"

The woman laughed softly.

"You really don't know?"

"No."

"You used to call me yourself."

Evetyl stared.

The woman stepped closer.

"I am the part of you that survived the first ending."

"What does that mean?"

"You've died many times."

"I know."

"No."

The woman shook her head.

"You don't."

She touched Evetyl's forehead.

The white world changed.

Evetyl saw herself standing before an enormous door.

Behind it were endless worlds.

She was crying.

Someone stood beside her.

Kai.

But he looked different.

Older.

His hair was longer.

His face was covered in scars.

He was holding her hand.

"You promised."

Evetyl heard her own voice.

"I know."

"You promised you'd come back."

"I will."

"You always say that."

"I mean it this time."

Kai looked at her.

"I'll wait."

The vision shattered.

Evetyl opened her eyes.

She was back in the chamber.

Kai was staring at her.

"You disappeared."

"What?"

"For a second."

Evetyl looked at her hands.

"I saw something."

"What?"

"You."

Kai blinked.

"Me?"

"Older."

He became quiet.

"What was I doing?"

"Waiting for me."

Kai smiled faintly.

"Sounds like me."

Evetyl smiled.

Then her expression changed.

"You were waiting for years."

Kai looked at her.

"How many?"

"I don't know."

Aren interrupted.

"Don't trust that vision."

Evetyl turned toward him.

"Why?"

"Because Aeterna doesn't show memories."

"Then what does she show?"

Aren looked toward the ceiling.

"Possibilities."

---

The First Thought suddenly dropped its book.

Everyone looked at it.

The pages were turning by themselves.

Fast.

Faster.

Then they stopped.

One page remained open.

A single sentence appeared.

THE FIRST NAME CREATES THE FIRST LAW.

The Curator stared.

"What does that mean?"

The First Thought looked frightened.

"It means Aeterna isn't a name."

The Eye moved closer.

"Then what is it?"

The First Thought answered:

"A command."

The First Thing frowned.

"A command for what?"

The First Thought looked toward Evetyl.

"For existence."

Evetyl felt the chamber become colder.

The First Mother spoke softly.

"That is why they feared you."

"Who?"

"Everyone."

Evetyl shook her head.

"That's not an answer."

"It is."

Her mother looked at her.

"Before the first world existed, there were no rules."

"No time."

"No space."

"No death."

"No life."

"Nothing had meaning."

"Then you were born."

Evetyl stared.

"You created the first rule."

"What rule?"

"That something can exist."

The First Thought slowly understood.

"The first law..."

The First Mother nodded.

"Existence itself."

---

A deep sound came from above.

The Observers.

Their eyes were moving.

Hundreds disappeared.

Then thousands.

One by one, they began closing.

The Eye looked upward.

"They're leaving."

The Curator frowned.

"Why?"

The First Mother answered:

"Because they are afraid."

"Of Evetyl?"

"No."

She looked toward the darkness.

"Of what heard her name."

Everyone became silent.

Kai asked,

"What heard it?"

The First Mother didn't answer.

Aren did.

"The one who existed before the first law."

The First Thought looked at him.

"That's impossible."

Aren shook his head.

"We've been saying that too often."

The First Mother nodded.

"He is right."

The Curator's expression became serious.

"Then what is it?"

The First Mother looked toward the underground darkness.

"I don't know."

Everyone stared at her.

The First Mother continued.

"That's the problem."

---

The chamber began shaking again.

The black lake started draining into the ground.

A circular pattern appeared beneath it.

The pattern looked like an enormous eye.

The Warden moved backward.

"Something is opening."

The First Thing raised its hands.

"Everyone prepare."

Cr-Hook pulled out his weapon.

"Finally, something I understand."

The First Anomaly looked at him.

"Do you?"

"No."

"Then put it away."

Cr-Hook slowly lowered it.

"Fair."

Noah stood beside Kai.

"Should we leave?"

Kai looked toward the opening.

"I don't think we're allowed to."

Noah frowned.

"What?"

The entrance behind them had disappeared.

The Curator tried opening his book.

Nothing happened.

The Warden struck the wall with its chain.

The chain bounced back.

The Eye attempted to move through the ceiling.

It couldn't.

"We are sealed."

The First Thought whispered.

"Not sealed."

Everyone looked at it.

"Contained."

---

The young man suddenly walked toward Evetyl.

She watched him carefully.

"What?"

He stopped in front of her.

"Give me your hand."

"Why?"

"I need to check something."

Evetyl hesitated.

Then held out her hand.

The young man placed two fingers against the silver mark.

His eyes widened.

"What?"

He immediately pulled away.

"What happened?"

He looked at Kai.

"The mark isn't connected to her."

Kai frowned.

"Then what is it connected to?"

The young man answered:

"Her original existence."

Kai stared.

"So it's part of Aeterna?"

"No."

He shook his head.

"That's the strange part."

"What?"

"The mark existed before Aeterna."

Everyone froze.

Aren stepped forward.

"That's impossible."

The young man looked at him.

"Apparently not."

Evetyl stared at Kai's hand.

"What does that mean?"

The young man didn't answer.

The First Mother did.

"It means Kai was not created by Evetyl."

Evetyl looked at her.

"Then who created him?"

The First Mother looked at Kai.

"I don't know."

Kai stared back.

For once, he had no joke.

No sarcastic answer.

Nothing.

"Then..."

He looked at Evetyl.

"...who am I?"

The First Mother remained silent.

---

The chamber suddenly became warm.

The ancient paintings on the walls began glowing.

One after another.

Aren walked toward them.

"There."

He pointed.

The first painting showed the First Mother.

The second showed their father.

The third showed Aren.

The fourth showed Elara.

The fifth showed Evetyl.

Then there was a sixth.

Everyone stopped.

It showed Kai.

But not the Kai standing beside Evetyl.

This Kai was standing alone.

Behind him was a door.

A door identical to the one Evetyl had seen in her vision.

Aren's expression changed.

"No."

Elara stepped closer.

"What's wrong?"

"I've seen that door."

"Where?"

Aren pointed toward the painting.

"Before the First World."

The First Mother looked at the painting.

Her expression became unreadable.

Evetyl asked,

"Mother?"

She didn't answer.

"Mother."

The First Mother finally spoke.

"Kai was there."

Kai stared.

"Where?"

"At the beginning."

Aren shook his head.

"No."

The First Mother looked at him.

"You remember him."

Aren became silent.

Evetyl looked at him.

"You know Kai?"

Aren's face became pale.

"I..."

He struggled.

"I remember someone."

"Who?"

Aren looked at Kai.

"But it wasn't him."

Kai frowned.

"What do you mean?"

Aren stepped closer.

"The person I remember..."

"...was standing beside Evetyl."

Kai's expression changed.

"What did he look like?"

Aren stared at him.

"Exactly like you."

Silence.

---

Kai took a step backward.

"That's impossible."

Aren shook his head.

"I thought so too."

"Then why don't you remember me?"

"Because you weren't called Kai."

"What was my name?"

Aren looked toward Evetyl.

Then toward the painting.

Then back at Kai.

"I don't know."

The First Thought suddenly shouted:

"Everyone move!"

A blast of white light erupted from the painting.

The chamber shook violently.

The ancient images began moving.

The painted figures stepped out of the walls.

Their mother.

Their father.

Aren.

Elara.

Evetyl.

And Kai.

All six stood in the chamber.

But the painted Kai was different.

He looked older.

He looked sad.

And he was holding something.

A small black object.

The First Mother looked at it.

Her expression changed completely.

"No."

Aren whispered,

"What is that?"

The First Mother answered:

"The First Key."

The Curator stepped forward.

"The First Key?"

The First Mother nodded.

"The thing that opened the first world."

The Curator stared.

"Then why does Kai have it?"

Nobody answered.

The painted Kai raised the object.

The black key began glowing.

Then the real Kai's silver mark responded.

A sharp pain shot through his hand.

Kai fell to his knees.

"Evetyl!"

She grabbed him.

His eyes had turned completely white.

He looked at her.

But he wasn't seeing her.

He was seeing something else.

A voice came from him.

Not his voice.

An older one.

A voice that sounded exactly like the voice from beyond reality.

It spoke through Kai.

"Evetyl."

She froze.

The First Mother immediately stepped backward.

Aren grabbed Elara.

The young man reached for his weapon.

Kai's mouth moved again.

"Or should I call you..."

His eyes became black.

"...Aeterna?"

Evetyl's heart stopped.

The voice laughed.

Not loudly.

Almost gently.

"You finally remembered."

Kai suddenly grabbed Evetyl's wrist.

She tried to pull away.

"Kai?"

He looked directly at her.

For a moment, his normal eyes returned.

"Evetyl..."

His voice was weak.

"Run."

Then the other voice returned.

"You can't run."

The ground beneath Kai cracked.

A black symbol spread across the floor.

The First Mother screamed:

"SEPARATE THEM!"

Everyone moved.

The Warden's chains shot toward Kai.

The First Thing attacked the symbol.

The Eye unleashed a burst of light.

The Curator opened his book.

The First Thought shouted instructions.

Aren pulled Evetyl away.

But Kai didn't move.

He remained at the center of the symbol.

The black key from the painting appeared in his hand.

Evetyl stared.

"Kai..."

He looked at her.

For one second, he smiled.

"I'm sorry."

Then the world disappeared.

---

Evetyl opened her eyes.

She was standing somewhere unfamiliar.

There was no Crosshaven.

No ancient city.

No First Mother.

No Aren.

No Elara.

No one.

Only a vast white field.

Kai stood several meters away.

His back was toward her.

"Kai!"

He didn't respond.

Evetyl ran toward him.

"Kai!"

He turned.

His eyes were normal again.

He looked exhausted.

"Evetyl."

She stopped.

"What happened?"

"I don't know."

"Where are we?"

Kai looked around.

"I think..."

He swallowed.

"...we're inside the First Memory."

Evetyl frowned.

"What does that mean?"

Kai looked behind her.

Evetyl turned.

There was a door.

The same door from the painting.

The same door from her vision.

The same door that had existed before the First World.

Kai whispered,

"That's where the voice came from."

Evetyl stepped closer.

The door opened by itself.

Beyond it was not darkness.

It was a room.

A simple room.

A wooden table.

Three chairs.

A window.

A small bed.

Evetyl's childhood home.

She stepped inside.

Kai followed.

On the table was a piece of paper.

Evetyl picked it up.

There were only three words written on it.

She recognized the handwriting immediately.

Her own.

The message read:

"Don't trust Kai."

Evetyl slowly looked at him.

Kai stared at the paper.

His face became pale.

"I didn't write that."

Evetyl turned the paper over.

There was another sentence.

This one was written in different handwriting.

The handwriting of the First Mother.

It said:

"Whatever you do, don't let him remember who he really is."

Kai took a step backward.

"Evetyl..."

The room suddenly became silent.

Then someone behind them spoke.

A familiar voice.

A voice Evetyl had heard many times.

But never from this person.

"Too late."

Evetyl turned.

The young man was standing in the doorway.

But he wasn't alone.

Behind him stood another version of Kai.

Older.

Scarred.

Holding the First Key.

The older Kai looked at Evetyl.

Then at his younger self.

And smiled sadly.

"I wondered when we'd finally meet."

Evetyl couldn't move.

The older Kai raised the First Key.

"You need to know the truth."

He looked at Evetyl.

"I wasn't created by you."

A pause.

"I created you."

Evetyl's world went silent.

The older Kai continued:

"And the First World..."

His eyes darkened.

"...was created because I failed to save you."
