Chapter 90 – The One Who Created Aeterna

"I created you."

The words remained in the room.

Evetyl couldn't move.

Kai stood beside her, staring at his older self.

The young man remained near the doorway.

Nobody spoke.

The silence became unbearable.

Finally, Evetyl whispered,

"You're lying."

The older Kai didn't react.

"I expected you to say that."

"You said you created me."

"Yes."

"Then explain."

The older Kai looked at her.

"I will."

He lowered the First Key.

"But you may not like the answer."

Evetyl stepped forward.

"I've spent too long being lied to."

Her voice trembled.

"So tell me the truth."

The older Kai nodded.

"Then listen carefully."

He looked at the room around them.

"This is where everything started."

Evetyl looked around.

The small house.

The wooden table.

The three chairs.

The window.

The bed.

It looked ordinary.

Almost painfully ordinary.

"Here?"

"Yes."

Kai looked at the older version of himself.

"Then why don't I remember it?"

"Because you haven't reached that point yet."

Kai frowned.

"That doesn't make sense."

"It will."

The older Kai placed the First Key on the table.

The moment it touched the wood, the entire room changed.

The walls disappeared.

The ceiling vanished.

The floor became transparent.

Suddenly, they were standing above an endless white ocean.

Millions of lights floated beneath them.

Each light was a world.

Each world contained countless lives.

Evetyl stared.

"The timelines."

The older Kai nodded.

"Some of them."

The young man finally spoke.

"This place exists outside them."

Evetyl turned toward him.

"You knew about this."

"I knew it existed."

"You knew Kai was connected to it."

"Yes."

"Then why didn't you tell me?"

He looked at her.

"Because I wasn't sure which Kai you would become."

Evetyl frowned.

"There are multiple Kais?"

The older Kai answered.

"Not exactly."

He looked toward the endless lights.

"There are versions."

"Every decision creates a possibility."

"Every possibility creates a path."

"Most paths disappear."

"Some continue."

"And a few..."

He looked at Kai.

"...become important."

Kai crossed his arms.

"So I'm important?"

The older Kai smiled.

"You always hated being told that."

Kai blinked.

"Have we actually met?"

"Many times."

"How many?"

"More than you remember."

Kai rubbed his forehead.

"That answer is becoming a little annoying."

The older Kai laughed.

For a brief moment, Evetyl saw something familiar in him.

The same smile.

The same way of standing.

The same quiet humor.

He really was Kai.

Just older.

Much older.

---

Evetyl looked at the First Key.

"What does it do?"

The older Kai picked it up.

"It opens what has been closed."

"That's all?"

"No."

He turned the key in the air.

A door appeared.

"There are doors between possibilities."

"Most beings can't see them."

"Some can."

"The First Family could."

Evetyl looked at him.

"And you?"

"I learned."

"From whom?"

He looked toward Evetyl.

"You."

She frowned.

"I taught you?"

"Not exactly."

He smiled.

"You showed me how to remember."

Evetyl looked confused.

"I don't understand."

"You weren't born knowing how to create worlds."

"You learned."

"From experience."

"From mistakes."

"And from me."

Kai stepped forward.

"So what was she before she became Evetyl?"

The older Kai looked at him.

"Aeterna."

The name echoed through the white space.

"Evetyl was the name you used after you forgot."

Kai asked,

"Why did she forget?"

The older Kai looked at Evetyl.

"Because she couldn't live with what she had done."

Evetyl's expression changed.

"What did I do?"

He didn't answer immediately.

Then he said:

"I asked you to create the First World."

She stared.

"Why?"

"Because I couldn't save you."

Kai's expression hardened.

"What happened to her?"

The older Kai looked at Evetyl.

"You died."

Again.

The word seemed to follow her everywhere.

Evetyl lowered her head.

"I've heard that before."

"This time is different."

"How?"

"You weren't sick."

"You weren't attacked."

"You weren't killed."

"You chose to die."

Evetyl looked up.

"Why?"

"Because existence was becoming unstable."

He pointed toward the countless worlds below.

"Every possibility was connecting to every other possibility."

"Worlds were merging."

"Memories were crossing."

"People were meeting versions of themselves."

"Cause and effect stopped working."

"Reality was collapsing."

Evetyl whispered,

"So I stopped it."

"Yes."

"How?"

"You created a boundary."

"The First World."

The First Thought's words suddenly came back to her.

The First World wasn't the first.

It was a boundary.

A beginning.

A controlled reality.

A place where existence could start again.

Evetyl understood.

"You used me."

The older Kai shook his head.

"No."

"I asked you."

"And you agreed."

Evetyl stared at him.

"Why would I agree?"

"Because you loved everyone."

She looked away.

"And that destroyed me."

"Yes."

---

Kai remained silent.

Then he asked,

"Where was I?"

The older Kai looked at him.

"You were there."

"Before the First World?"

"Yes."

"What was I doing?"

"You were helping her."

Kai frowned.

"Doing what?"

"Trying to save her."

The older Kai walked toward the edge of the white ocean.

"You weren't supposed to exist as a separate person."

Kai's eyes widened.

"What?"

"You were part of Aeterna."

Evetyl stared.

"What does that mean?"

The older Kai looked at her.

"When you created the first laws, you separated part of yourself."

"Your ability to remember."

"Your ability to connect."

"Your ability to keep going when everything else ended."

"You gave those things a form."

Evetyl looked at Kai.

"And that became him."

Kai stared at his hands.

"So I'm part of her."

"Yes."

"But I'm also myself."

"Now."

Kai frowned.

"Now?"

The older Kai nodded.

"You changed."

"How?"

"You lived."

The answer was simple.

But somehow it carried enormous weight.

"You experienced things Aeterna never did."

"You met people she never knew."

"You made choices she never made."

"You became someone different."

Kai looked at Evetyl.

"And she?"

"She became Evetyl."

Evetyl whispered,

"So we're both pieces of something that existed before."

The older Kai nodded.

"Exactly."

---

A sound came from the white ocean.

A distant bell.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

The older Kai's expression changed.

"What is that?"

The young man immediately looked toward the horizon.

"The seal."

Evetyl frowned.

"What seal?"

"The one keeping this place hidden."

The white ocean began turning black.

The lights beneath them disappeared.

One after another.

The older Kai grabbed the First Key.

"We have to leave."

Kai looked at him.

"Why?"

"Because it found us."

"What found us?"

The older Kai didn't answer.

Evetyl felt something watching them.

Not from above.

Not from below.

From everywhere.

A voice whispered across the white space.

"Children."

Evetyl froze.

The First Mother.

But it wasn't her.

It sounded like her.

Yet older.

Deeper.

Almost broken.

The older Kai's face became pale.

"No."

The voice spoke again.

"Children..."

"Come home."

Evetyl looked at the young man.

"What is that?"

He shook his head.

"I don't know."

The older Kai answered.

"The thing your mother was afraid of."

"The thing before the First Mother."

Evetyl's heart dropped.

"The First Thing?"

"No."

He looked toward the darkness.

"Something before even that."

---

The white space cracked.

A massive black line appeared across the horizon.

Then another.

Something was breaking through.

The older Kai turned toward Evetyl.

"You have to wake up."

"Wake up?"

"You're inside the First Memory."

"I know."

"No."

He shook his head.

"You don't understand."

"This isn't a memory."

"Then what is it?"

"A prison."

Evetyl froze.

"Whose prison?"

The older Kai looked at Kai.

"His."

Kai stepped backward.

"Mine?"

"Yes."

"What did I do?"

"You locked yourself here."

"Why?"

"To keep something else from escaping."

Kai stared.

"What?"

The older Kai didn't answer.

Instead, he looked at Evetyl.

"That's why you were created."

Evetyl's heart stopped.

"What?"

"You weren't created to make worlds."

"You were created to guard him."

She stared.

"Guard Kai?"

"No."

He looked toward the cracks.

"Guard what is inside Kai."

---

Kai suddenly fell to his knees.

His hands went to his head.

"Evetyl..."

She rushed toward him.

"Kai!"

His body shook.

The silver mark on his hand turned black.

The older Kai immediately stepped forward.

"Don't touch him!"

Evetyl stopped.

"Why?"

"He's waking up."

"Who?"

The older Kai's voice became quiet.

"The original."

Kai screamed.

The sound shook the entire white world.

A black symbol appeared across his chest.

Evetyl recognized it.

The same symbol from the ancient paintings.

The same symbol from the door.

The First Mother saw it.

The young man feared it.

The Observers had watched it.

The First Thought couldn't record it.

Evetyl whispered,

"The First Key."

The older Kai nodded.

"No."

He looked terrified.

"The key is only a fragment."

"Then what is the symbol?"

He answered:

"The lock."

---

Kai's scream stopped.

His body became still.

His head slowly lifted.

His eyes were completely black.

Evetyl stepped forward.

"Kai?"

He looked at her.

For a moment, he smiled.

But it wasn't Kai's smile.

"You shouldn't have remembered."

Evetyl froze.

The voice wasn't his.

"Who are you?"

The thing inside Kai tilted its head.

"That's the wrong question."

"What should I ask?"

It smiled.

"Ask yourself..."

The black symbol spread across Kai's body.

"...why your mother was afraid of you."

Evetyl's heart sank.

"Afraid of me?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

The creature inside Kai answered:

"Because she knew what you would become."

Evetyl shook her head.

"No."

"She knew."

"No."

"She watched you create the first world."

"No."

"She watched you erase the old one."

"Stop."

"She watched you create Kai."

Evetyl stared.

The creature laughed softly.

"And she watched you make one final mistake."

"What mistake?"

It leaned closer.

"Giving me a name."

Evetyl's eyes widened.

"What name?"

The creature smiled.

"A name you forgot."

The older Kai shouted:

"Evetyl, don't listen!"

But the creature continued.

"You called me..."

The white world began collapsing.

The voice became louder.

"You called me..."

Kai's body rose into the air.

The First Key shattered.

The older Kai reached for Evetyl.

"Wake up!"

The young man appeared behind her.

"Evetyl!"

Aren's voice echoed from somewhere far away.

Elara screamed her name.

The First Mother roared.

Crosshaven trembled.

Every world began shaking.

And then the creature inside Kai spoke the forgotten name.

A name older than Aeterna.

Older than the First Mother.

Older than the First World.

Older than existence itself.

Evetyl heard it.

And remembered.

She remembered why she had created Kai.

She remembered why she had created the First World.

She remembered why she erased herself.

And she finally remembered the one thing she had spent eternity trying to forget.

Kai was never created to save her.

He was created to contain her.

The blackness consumed the white world.

Evetyl reached for Kai.

"Kai!"

His eyes returned to normal for one final second.

He looked terrified.

"Evetyl..."

She grabbed his hand.

"I'm here."

Kai whispered,

"Then don't let me open the door."

Behind him...

A door appeared.

The same door.

But this time it was already opening.

Something stood on the other side.

Evetyl couldn't see its face.

Only its hand.

A hand reaching through the opening.

Kai stared at it.

Then whispered:

"It's awake."

The door opened another inch.

A voice came from beyond it.

Not the creature inside Kai.

Not the First Mother.

Not the young man.

Not anyone they had ever met.

It was Evetyl's own voice.

But older.

Broken.

And terrified.

"Run."

Evetyl froze.

The voice continued:

"Because when I open my eyes..."

The door opened completely.

"...the First World will remember why it was created."

The darkness exploded.

And every timeline began moving backward.

To Be Continued...
