Just as the group was about to leave the insect pavilion, Lin Feng felt a sudden intuition. It was a visual feed transmitted directly from his Shadow Ninjas.
Near a ventilation duct, a spider as black as ink had crawled out, its crimson eyes gleaming with an eerie light. Lin Feng's eyes lit up the moment he saw it.
"Finally, it's here!"
In an instant, he was certain: this was the culprit behind the birth of Spider-Man. Lin Feng stopped naturally, pretending to examine an exhibit. Jessica and the others stopped with him. They were currently in front of a display of exotic mantises from the Amazon rainforest. Betty and Gwen were chatting happily, occasionally letting out gasps of wonder.
Lin Feng focused his mind on the Shadow Ninja's perspective. The spider was scuttling along the ceiling, its red eyes flickering as it surveyed the crowd below like prey.
Suddenly, Betty spoke up. "Lin, why don't you explore on your own for a bit? We have some... girl stuff to take care of." She pulled Gwen and Jessica toward the restrooms.
Lin Feng didn't mind. This worked out perfectly; he could concentrate on waiting for the iconic moment to claim his reward! Though, he lamented that he might not be able to pull off the "Double Spider" scene he had envisioned.
On the ceiling, the spider was oblivious to being watched. It lurked above the crowd, its eyes fixed on the people below. Then, whether it slipped or finally spotted a target—Zip!—it dropped from the ceiling.
By a stroke of pure fate, Peter Parker was being dragged along by his best friend right underneath. The spider landed squarely on Peter's shoulder.
"Huh? What's that?" Peter felt something and instinctively reached up to brush his shoulder.
The movement startled the spider. Seeing the giant human hand closing in, it acted on survival instinct and sank its fangs into his skin.
"Agh!" Peter let out a sharp cry of pain, his face contorting. He frowned at the two red dots appearing on his wrist. "What the hell was that? Just my luck!" He grumbled under his breath.
The spider, seemingly spooked, gave a powerful leap and vanished into the shadows of a nearby corner.
Lin Feng was about to step forward to trigger the system check-in when something unexpected happened again. Betty, Gwen, and Jessica were walking back from the restrooms and happened to be passing right by that corner.
Seeing the coincidence, Lin Feng's heart skipped a beat. He secretly commanded the Shadow Ninja: Drive that spider toward Gwen!
Whoosh!
Silently, a Shadow Ninja closed in on the spider. A wisp of shadow enveloped the creature, forcing it to leap again. Controlled by the shadow, the spider landed on Gwen's shoulder bag. Startled once more, its eyes flickered as it lunged and bit her.
"Ah!"
A second cry of pain rang out, but this time, the victim was Gwen. Two Spider-beings had been born in the exact same moment!
At this historic turning point, Lin Feng—the architect behind the scenes—internally commanded: System, check-in!
[Ding! Host has successfully checked into an iconic scene: The Dual Spider Origin!]
[Ding! Congratulations to the Host for obtaining rewards: The Horse Talisman! Danger Sense! Saitama-style Special Training Guidance Manual!]
"Wait, what...?"
Hearing the rewards, Lin Feng was momentarily speechless. He had orchestrated this massive event himself. He had expected something world-shattering, but this was it?
Well, the Horse Talisman's healing effects were decent enough, he supposed. The "Danger Sense" was essentially a "Peter Tingle"—the legendary Spider-Sense.
But this "Saitama-style Special Training Guidance Manual" sounded absolutely absurd. Was the system just messing with him? Lin Feng didn't have time to dwell on it. Commanding the Shadow Corps to retrieve the spider that had done the deed, he quickly stepped toward the three girls.
"Jessica, are you guys okay?" Lin Feng asked with genuine concern.
"I'm fine," Jessica shook her head, turning to Gwen with a worried look. "Gwen, it looks like something bit you. Maybe we should see a doctor?"
Jessica had sensed something unusual a moment ago, but because she was still clumsy with her newfound powers, her reaction had been a beat too slow. She had only caught a glimpse of a spider vanishing into the shadows. Now that the creature was gone, she couldn't be sure if it was venomous.
"Bitten?" Betty turned pale with fright. "Gwen, this place is full of weird, exotic bugs. You can't let anything happen to you!"
"It's probably not that serious, right?" Gwen said, though her friends' anxiety was making her feel a bit uneasy. The initial sting had already faded. Aside from the two red dots on her wrist, she felt normal—though a strange, inexplicable heat was beginning to simmer deep within her body.
"Gwen, we can't be careless about this. Let's get out of here first," Lin Feng said with a solemn expression.
Even though he knew Gwen would likely be fine—and would actually benefit immensely from the bite—safety came first, especially since she was Jessica's close friend.
"Okay," Gwen agreed.
Since the expo was located in a remote suburb, Lin Feng suggested contacting Natasha. Before long, Natasha received the message and rushed over.
"Gwen, are you alright? I've already contacted the Oscorp staff; they're sending a car over immediately," Natasha said, her voice full of professional concern.
